Always my go to place when looking to buy alcohol at a great price. Bought mini champagne bottles here as favors for my wedding because they were the best price I could find - and I did a lot of research. We were able to call in and order them. Cappy's has some of the best wine and liquor selections in the area. They carry pretty much everything you can think of for very affordable rates. One feature that I enjoy tremendously is that they have a section on the right completely dedicated to Long Island wines. They did not have to go this extra step, but it always feels good that they are willing to promote the local varieties! Depending on the time of year there will also be representatives from major distillers who are handing out samples of their product for you to try! Last year I got to sample Johnny Walker Blue and Platinum, and this past Christmas Maker's Mark was at the booth. They have a parking lot that is good on most days, except the busy times, in which case I would recommend parking down the line. Always busy, always good. The BEST liquor/wine shop in the area. You can find your brand/vintage at the lowest price around. The tastings are a treat and I would easily give it a 5-star review if it wasn't for the (mostly) surly cashiers. Don't expect anything but strictly business from them if the store is crowded, which it is, especially on a Friday evening or around a Holiday. Someone should tell them a "Good night." or" Have a good weekend." goes a long way. I guess when the registers are constantly ringing up sales it doesn't matter to the Management. Great selection, good prices. You can generally get pretty good recommendations from the staff on the floor as well. The new location has more space, and it seems like more options. Of course, it also seems like they're much busier too! They've always got plenty of people on cash though, so even on the busiest trips I haven't seen a line. great prices and great service makes this place #1...I drive them crazy with my requests for wines that are hard to locate, and sure enough... if it can be found, they find it ( and at the lowest price too!) I used to shop at Pops in Island Park - they also have low prices with free delivery - but Cappy's is still less expensive. They moved two weeks ago (nov. 2014) to 670 Merrick. About 200 feet from the previous location. Much larger space and they now have a wine fridge. It's about time. New store is incredibly spacious and the aisles wide enough for two lanes of shoppers (unlike the last location.) Simply put, I've found that Cappy's has the best price on spirits in the area and has a friendly staff and selection to boot. I've found on average the bottles I buy to be roughly $2-5 cheaper than the nearby competition. I'm not as well versed in wine prices, but Cappy's is certainly the only place in the immediate area where I've seen plenty of $2.99 bottles on clearance. On two occasions, I've also gotten the unexpected treat of various samples - this is always the icing on the cake for me. It is "deceptively large" inside also, kind of like the TARDIS from Doctor Who, heh. read more

This is a great liquor store as noted by these reviews. They have an outstanding selection of Bourbon and Scotch and I always get to try something new. The wine selection is excellent too and I appreciate the occasional tastings provided by the distributors. The store has wide aisles and lots of room and is a pleasure to shop in. However, the parking lot is a disaster!!! The spots are tight and there is not much room to maneuver in and out. I have found it much easier to park on the street and this is the reason for only four stars. Despite my issue with the parking lot I will not go to any other store in the area!! read more

Somehow the first attempt was deemed inappropriate by YELP, I guess, since it was categorized as "not currently recommended." I suppose it has to be written in Cappy's favor to end up on their page, otherwise, it'll bring down their stars, and we wouldn't want that now, would we? This place routinely exhibits poor customer service. I figured with the new store, it might be different, but management continually hires cashiers who talk to each other and ignore customers. Is this just today's work force? I had a price discrepancy involving one of my bottles of wine as it was priced differently in separate parts of the store. During the temporary confusion, the cashier loudly said to the manager, "Don't worry, he already paid by card." Is this really customer service? Is dealing politely with customers a lost art? Fortunately, the manager ignored the cashier, but both cashiers whispered and giggled when we left. Is this what the management at Cappy's wants? I've tried giving this store numerous tries as I want to shop locally, but no more. Hire some workers who are interested in more than just a paycheck. read more

This was my first and unfortunately my last visit to this store. I was a little pressed for time getting a last minute Mother's Day gift and a friend recommended I stop at Cappy's on my way to her house. It was extremely busy for a store that had only been open for 15 minutes which I thought was a good thing, means they have good business. While the store's inventory was vast and well organized, I was immediately turned off by the older gentleman who worked there. He was extremely rude and loud. He was yelling at one of the cashiers, cursing and everything. Mind you, the store is busy and people definitely noticed. Cappy's is the cheapest around. I don't live particularly near here but make the trip once a week to buy a few bottles of vino. Another great feature is Internet ordering. This way you can shop at home at your convenience, look at sites like Vivino and Wine.com and decide ahead of time what you want. I always like to try something new, but do a little research before hand. Making decisions surrounded by 4,000 bottles of wine just doesn't work for me. Came i to the new store, across the street and a little further down the road from this address. I was immediately impressed with the size of the new facility. There was a tasting promotion table with johnny blue. That caught my attention. Then just a few feet beyond it, a HUGE selection of whiskeys. Not only the regular stuff you find anywhere, but a lot of smaller distillery brands as well. The guy i spoke to working there was extremely helpful, offering suggestions and opinions. Turns out he was the owner, fixing shelves, bottle presentations, helping customers all at once. He offered to look into getting a bottle that i did not see there. The cashiers were quick and attentive, as well. The prices are pretty average. Some bottles are priced a little high. As someone elses review said, parking is a bit of a pain. read more
