From the moment I walked into the school, I was very impressed by Capri. I had my hair done by Emmalyn. She did both, highlights and lowlights on my full head. The coach, Mr. Anthony was wonderful. After Emmalyn and I discussed what I wanted, Mr. Anthony came over and consulted with me. Emmalyn took her time and was very patient. Mr. Anthony was very supportive of Emmalyn and he would pop over every little while. My hair came out beautiful and I am so happy with the service I received! I graduated from this school in 2011. Back then it was very organized and serene. My teachers were Ms.Tracy, Ms.Amanda, Ms.Jess, Ms. Ro, Ms. Blanca. Fast forward to today, I have a friend who is a current student. I called the front desk three times to make an appointment with my friend- no answer. My friend told me she was available on the floor to do my hair - which I hadn't done in months since trying to grow it out. I was long overdue. When I finally got through to the front desk, the receptionist was nasty. She told me that my friend was booked for the day and had no time and that if I had called earlier it might have been possible. I told her I did call. Several times. She didn't care, and told me I should have left a message. I ended up coming in as a walk in and my friend had plenty of time to do my hair. While doing my hair, which was a full head of highlights, the instructor told my friend to use 10 volume developer. As a graduate there myself, I knew 10 volume developer would barely do anything because it is designed to deposit color and merely open the cuticle. It doesn't do well with lifting, and my goal was to be an all over blonde with semi-dimension. My friend did as the instructor asked. It took ten times as long to process my hair due to using the minimum developer, and it never reached a pale yellow. I ended up brassy and spotty. The toner used did nothing. While at the sink, I had to recommend someone brush the toner through my hair for an even distribution. I feel so bad because it is not my friends fault. For my hair to come out the way it did... she probably thought she did a bad job but she didn't. She did well with the foil placement and took her time to weave through evenly. Because she is forced to adhere to instructions of her coach- she couldn't do a job she normally would at her full potential. At one point in time there was another instructor to come over and assess her efforts. Ms. Alyssa was her name. Her hair looked like cotton candy. It was so over processed it looked like she stuck her head in an air fryer. I am not trying to reciprocate negativity in this review- I know my last statement seems harsh, however I think it's important for the teachers to really put time into their hair and overall appearance if they are going to be telling others how to process chemicals on clients. I would never hire a personal trainer that didn't put the work into their own body, hence not trusting someone with my hair whose hair themself is awful. I called the front desk again the next day to let them know that after it was all said and done I paid full price as a former student for a head of highlights that were barely visible and those that were are orange. I was met with the same negative demeanor and verbiage over the phone when I told her all I wanted was to come back in for it to be fixed. I understand wholeheartedly that the system in place (discounted services) is for the students to learn and I did not think I was going to leave with Hollywood hair. However, it would have been nice for them to prioritize getting me back in so I don't have to walk around like this AND now have to go to an actually salon to have it fixed by an actual professional. As a licensed professional myself I would do my own hair except I don't have eyes in the back of my head. Please steer clear of capri when contemplating on going there for services. A lot has changed, the place is a mess and so is the staff. So sad that although people go there with the understanding that perfection is not guaranteed, the least they can deliver is compassion! read more

I am a former student of Capri. During my time, I ran into some medical issues that caused me to sometimes have to miss some classes but they way had options to make up the time to graduate at my desired time frame. I graduated in 4 months. September of 2019! My time at Capri was nothing short of fun, scary, intriguing, informative, etc. They prepare you for success. I also love that they allow you to work with actual clients and build your little black book of clientele that you can take with you into your future endeavors. I was fortunate to have some amazing clients. Only once did I have a difficult client but with that, my instructor took over and handled the situation in a very professional and respectful manner. She also informed me that it was not me but in fact the client that was not very knowledgeable on the fact that we are a school with active "learning" students. They require signatures and provide you with comments from your clients after your clients services. They provide on floor products for actual sale and teach you step by step how to make a sale as a business personnel. I actually plan to come back here to branch my knowledge and grow more with other courses that they offer. I'd like to thank all my instructors and my esthetician classmates who made my experience so much fun! We're still all friends online and follow up periodically! Great experience with student, Aurora Saradjian. My hair was a "grown-out" mess ( my own fault-heavy workload). Since I'm planning a lot of travel over the next two months, I asked Aurora her opinion on the color that would hold up longer while my hair was growing in. She matched really close to my natural hair color, covered the grays that I had, and gave me a incredible scalp treatment. The prices are phenomenal!TIP: this is a learning academy so Services will take a lot longer as the student checks in regularly with their mentor or teacher. Do not think you're going to get in and out in an hour or two if you're doing a full color. Plan on staying a while: bring a book or magazine, whatever. A friend turned me on to this place last year. Since then I have gone for their Lux oil treatment, blow out, a hair cut and their European seaweed facial for such a reduced price. It's been a good experience from the moment I walk-in in till the moment I walkout. I have also taken my 15 year old son who enjoys getting his hair done by the students. I have not attempted a color because it would take too long for a student to do and I don't have the patience to sit for long periods of time. Capri is a school I will recommend to no one. It was very disorganized and was ran by higher ups that did not listen to the students and other actions were needed to be taken to make a difference. The way the curriculum is taught is rushed. We are rushed through theory and then thrown into hands on for each part for about a week and then get told to move on to the other part of the curriculum. Now, as a senior we have been bored for the last 4 weeks since we haven't been doing thing. The new teachers have a good mindset but they need to teach then take a step back and let us try It out without hovering over us. I do not like how we have the smallest working space in the school and our class number size is so large that you can't even get a true learning experience with the class size we had. The constant rotations of teachers also helps no one at all. Walking in each week with a new teacher each day instead of keeping It consistent helps absolutely no one. We are in a school of adults, we are not children. Being talked down to by the director and other higher ups with these rules that only half are stated in the contract we signed is unacceptable. I pay for my learning experience so I will get what I pay for. I did not get that at capri until I demanded It and took other actions myself to make It happen. For the future, capri needs an entire revamp of this program in order for its students to actually learn and be successfully for not only the state board (which we are not) but for our career in this field. The only good thing about this school was the friends I made and Chyna the receptionist who kept this school running to the best of her ability with everything she was thrown. Ms.Gianna, Ms.Shawna and Mr.Christian were amazing teachers but are sometimes pushed to do things they know are not best for us as students because that's what they are told to do. I learned so much from them but unfortunately one teacher decided to leave because of the hostile environment that capri has made. A week ago today, I had my multi-color white/grey hair cut in layers. I've had a blunt cut for many, many years and wanted something different. Katherine, the student, under guidance from Rae, the coach, gave me a fantastic cut. Katherine was precise snd took her time to give me the cut I wanted. I was happy. Today I returned to get foils put in to brighten my full hair to a platinum blend which is what I wanted. Needless to say, once again Katherine did a fantastic job. I love my new color. read more

Never in my life experienced such rude staff in my life ANYWHERE. And these women are supposed to be teaching and coaches... they need to learn communication skills. The coach Kendall or Kendra something like that spoke to my mother and I in slow motion like we were incompetent... she had the worst most disgusting attitude it was repulsive. They made my hair orange and when I came to get it fixed they had me wait all day just to tell me I can't be seen and had huge attitudes about it. You'd think after having a client wait after you messed her hair up last month you'd maybe be a little kinder when telling her she has to come back another day after waiting. The wait is ridiculous here and you can tell they don't want to work on minorities. Of course they had time for my white mothers hair today but mine... simple highlights was much too difficult for them to do. I'm sorry your learning center is afraid of diversity. Truly a shame and as a social media influencer I will be openly speaking about this experience and furthermore speaking against discrimination. People like this disgust me. So I read several reviews that said the service here has declined over the years. I should have paid attention to them all.. I didn't wanna give a review based on my first time going which took roughly 5 hours to get a wash, blow and flat iron.. So I decided to wait until my second experience.. Well let's just say it wasn't the greatest and I was told maybe this wasn't the place for me to get my hair done.. I know how to do my hair, I didn't feel like it.. And I was trying to give someone the opportunity to do "ethnic" hair as they call it. I have gone to several schools before and they never had an issue with me asking if there was someone comfortable doing super curly hair because they know that it's difficult to do. I will no longer be travelling to Newburgh for services needless to say. While I was in the chair, the door was left open on a lovely October brisk day. So with a wet head and cold air, I was freezing. Let me not forget the sniffles that came with it.. I hope they get their act together, because the way some of them talk to people is degrading. I had a facial appointment yesterday when I arrived at this location I was greeted with locked doors and all the lights turned off I called repeatedly with no answer at either location... I find this to be a very unprofessional place to come and get a service done they didn't even call to let me know that they would be closed and that I wouldn't be able to come for my appointment I had to drive a half hour from Poughkeepsie for this appointment...very upset with the service of this business. read more

My girlfriend called my hysterically crying today after her experience here. She went in with her mom after they called in advance and they were told they were booked all day but if they sat and waited they could be seen so they came at 11 at opening time. My girlfriends mom went inside and my girlfriend stayed in the car to wait... by the time my girlfriend walked in after an hour wait they told her they would see her mom but not her for color. I believe this because her mother is white and my girlfriend is mixed race so she has curly hair that may be more difficult... these women that gave my girlfriend trouble were not even students they were older women coaches. The same coach who ruined my girlfriends hair last time (the reason she came was to fix what was done last time) made a bold blatant lie in front of everyone and said they told my girlfriend that she couldn't be seen and that she decided to sit in the lobby... MIND YOU my girlfriend never stepped into the building only her mother did. She made up a whole lie and said they had a conversation that never happened so several coworkers chimed in to say that my girlfriend didn't have that conversation to confirm she was lying. After my girlfriend heard the lie she replied this is "bull" and she was asked to leave the building for cursing... this is a hair learning center I'm pretty sure they've heard many costumer complaints but of course they kick out my girlfriend when in reality they don't know how to do curly hair so if you have any curl pattern in your hair stay clear! And overall stay clear because the coaches and staff here have horrible attitudes the worst customer service I wish i could give you guys zero stars and you should be ashamed of how you made my girlfriend feel today. read more

Mixed feelings. You get what you pay for. I used to go to Capri religiously 1-2 times a month for facials. While they do offer good prices compared to other spas, the quality of services and the atmosphere varies greatly. I've had facials there that I spent a mere $30 on that felt like an $80 facial and then again I've had facials that I had spent $80 on (add ons etc.) that I felt like was not even worth $30. It really depends on who is doing the service. They have a lot of coupons and incentives to get you to come back, but the staff/receptionist can be a bit rude at times, and I feel like many of the girls lack the interpersonal skills or have not been trained to engage customers at a professional level. read more

Had my hair cut, touch up and highlights. The girl Anna doing my hair said i was the first foils she had done and you would have never know it. I have a lot of hair and even season pros get frustrated. The coach and graduating student kept checking on her and me. My hair looks like a million bucks. Highly recommend them. If fact my girls want to get their hair done and you know how picky teenage girls can be. Only reason not 5 stars is it does take a longer time because they are students but price compensates for that. read more

Just had my first experience today. Absolutely wonderful student gave me a facial, seaweed mask, waxing and massage for an amazing price. It's definitely worth it. At first I was a little nervous knowing the person doing my waxing has only been doing it for a few weeks or months, she was great! My only advice to her was to apply a little more pressure when doing the massage. I'm sure with time she'll feel more comfortable but all in all I had a great experience. I don't understand what is going on here. I have had my hair done for YEARS at Capri and generally I have been very pleased with the results (except for one cutting disaster but it grows back so I could live with it). So I've been getting fabulous razor cuts for years. Colleagues want to know where I get this done and I tell them. I understand when there are only newer students who have not learned how to use a razor so I live with the point cut. OK. So why on Monday when I requested a razor cut the coach gets positively confrontational and says, "NO! You can't have that! You have the wrong kind of hair! You have hair like mine! It'll all stick out!" Shoulda got up and left right then since I ended up looking like Scott Baio in Joanie Loves Cachi. (This is all especially ironic since so many of the coaches have said in the past that I have just the right kind of hair to get cut with a razor. So what is the story?). Not the student's fault, as she was just doing what the coach instructed. BTW this is the same coach who cut off the points of my bob a few years ago (!!!) and made me look like I had escaped from an institution and I had to get a pixie cut at a later date before I could fo out without a hat. Oh, Capri, say it isn't so, but this may be the end... PS, Do you know what the difference is between a bad haircut and a good one? Answer: Three weeks! (I hope!). Sheesh. read more

Generally speaking, the students seem much less informed and prepared than other schools/hair modeling I have done. One girl had never done highlights - ever - and didn't even seem to know how to use the foils. The instructors are absent, and not as attentive or hands on as they should be. I have had multiple times where the students apologized because they had to make me wait so they could go "track down" an instructor to help them with something. They have also complained about the lack of quality tools they are given. I have been to quite a few cosmetology schools for services, and this one ranks the lowest in technique, and has one of the highest prices. While I've never had my hair fall out, on the two or three times I've come (because I waited until the last minute) I ended up with patchy and yellow toned color. My hair will grow, but I feel bad for these girls (and boys) who are spending $$$ for an education and not getting the help or resources they deserve. After going here for highlights I realized you get what you pay for and it's best to go to a professional. The students are not qualified to do hair. Their training is obviously lacking. They don't know what they are doing and instructors are not watching them closely like they are suppose to. They seem clueless. The girl that colored my hair was not taught how to highlight around the face. She said they are told not to because it isn't good when the roots grow in. EVERY hairdresser knows to highlight around the face! How were they not taught this when they are almost finished? My highlights are brassy and not even close to the roots. It looked like my 5 year old daughter did my hair. It's scary to think these girl will be Graduating soon and working in a salon. read more

As a teacher, I feel terrible for the students as the are getting a subpar education. I attended Capri cosmetology if you are lucky enough to get one of the few awesome teachers then consider yourself lucky. Teachers are frequently absent which causes confusion for the students on what the work is. The teachers are never on the same page you are taught one way how do to something and the next minute your getting in trouble by another teacher for doing it "wrong". The teachers pick favorites and if your not a favorite then your one of many that get sent home for stupid things which causes you to have to make up time and if the time is not made up during your scheduled hours you wind up paying per hour. I think they often forget your paying to attend their school they don't pay you to be there. The office staff can get very rude with the students it seems like they really don't care as long as they get their money. The owner of Capri Mr. Anthony is very nice but his staff is giving him a bad name. The place seems to be run by a bunch of very un organized people. I recently called Capri to ask them if they had any graduating students interested in a job position doing nails in our salon, I was put on hold and never taken off of hold. I wound up hanging up after 5 minutes on hold. They obviously have no interest in getting their students jobs. Our salon was more then willing to give a student an opportunity to start their career. I highly recommend trying out a different beauty school. I work with a girl who attended Middletown beauty school and our experiences were much different. Hers being better then mine. read more
