After reading many online reviews, we decided to go with Captain Marvin's for our stingray city and snorkeling tour. We were on a sizable boat with about 20-25 other people. They offered snorkeling gear, water & fruit punch to drink, and a restroom on board. The boat was large and laid out well, so it never felt crowded. The team communicated very clearly about the excursion from booking to disembarkation and overall it was just a very well oiled machine. Our tour guide Bonson worked hard to make sure every single person had a really good time and was feeling good. He was very knowledgeable, answered our questions, and overall just kept the vibes good. We definitely felt like we got our moneys worth and made really great memories on our tour. read more

We had an AMAZING time on the bioluminescence tour with captain Suga Suga Bear and Michael. We were very fortunate for sunny hot weather (that recharges the plankton), no rain and no moon (so as better to view the effects). There were three stops on the 2-hour tour beginning at starfish point then on to jelly fish point but the highlight was the bio-bay. With calm waters in this extra salty bay, the plankton glow with a bluish light when agitated by motion in the water. You are provided with a thin stretch onesie to guard against the small annoyance of mini jelly fish (stink is like a mosquito bite-a bit itchy) then get in the shallow dark water with a snorkel and mask. With your head down the effect you see is like something out of the Avatar movie-each breast stroke stimulates thousands of time bluish flashes in the water. WOW! Just take you time and spread out a bit and maybe circle the boat to the darker side for greatest effect. Mesmerizing! Having been on the island for 5 days doing most everything-this was the best, most memorable experience of our vacation. A MUST do! And be sure to go with Captain Marvin (or sister company Sweet Spot) for their environmental sensibility and fun crew. read more

November 21, 2024 - we left East End at 4 AM this morning and got to Captain Marvins just before 5 AM. Yes, we waited the parking lot for a while and shared some laughs and took a nap, but that was much much better than leaving at 5 AM and missing the first boat out... for more details the review from a couple days ago. This morning, there were only six of us on the boat as it is not a cruise ship day. I can say I was able to face some of my biggest fears all because of the great crew and company. Today we tried the snorkeling, Stingray, and starfish tour with the intentions of only possibly touching the sting rays from afar and watching others snorkel just to be out on the water was a goal. However the crew did not allow me to miss such an amazing experience that will forever be etched in my brain. Everyone was so nice, reassuring me in my safety. Even hand held me and my sister through the snorkel experience. The entire crew was so knowledgeable and I learned so much about the sea life. We were out on the water for a while, but was having so much fun that time flew by. I would definitely recommend this company for visitors. The price is well worth it. My hotel also helped arrange a pickup to and from their main office Which is a plus to avoid high taxi rates or traveling on the bus if you are not familiar with the operations. We booked a trip to Stingray City with two snorkeling stops with Captain Marvin's. We were picked up from our condo promptly. We had to wait a short time at the store before being driven to the boat. The double decker boat was comfortable. There was a big crowd of people on board, but there were adequate staff to make sure that things ran smoothly. We were given careful briefings before each stop. Stingray City is a not to be missed attraction. The water is chest deep and there are many friendly stingrays there. The staff gave everyone a chance for a supervised interaction with the rays. I'm always ambivalent about tourists interacting with wild animals, but the rays didn't seem any worse for the wear. If this raises awareness about the natural world, it's worth it. We did two snorkeling stops afterwards. The barrier reef was OK. The coral gardens were very fishy with a few stingrays patrolling around the boat. My kids haven't snorkeled since childhood and they thought this was a five star activity. Great, efficient way to see a not to be missed attraction in Grand Cayman. read more

Great prices, you can't beat them. The staff, from the clerks at the shop, to the photographer, and helpers on the boat, they were all GREAT. Very friendly people, not pushy about anything, very helpful. They even remind people (one time) very tactfully that they do appreciate tips. They work hard and go out of their way to help if you ask for anything, a tip is well deserved. Hands down would go with them again if I need a trip to sting ray city. To sign up go to the shop next to the cafe, if you go to the departure point they will send you back to the shop to sign up and pay etc. we learned this the hard way. I did the three-stop stingray/snorkel tour. I absolutely loved it, minus getting a ton of anxiety when the stingrays were below during the snorkel part at the Barrier Reef. Honestly, the snorkeling part was the highlight of the tour if you can get past the anxiety of stingrays being all over. One of the tour guides found a large eel and wanted me to go see it, along with everyone else, and I was not up for that. He also grabbed a Stingray for everyone to get close, I passed also. Not taking any chances! Stingray City was nice to observe from the boat. I got off for a bit but felt uncomfortable standing there and waiting to be stung. But if you want to touch the Stingray and kiss them, get your cameras ready! You have to dig your feet in the sand but then get pushed around by the Stingray. The Coral Gardens was last stop. By that time, I had been out in the ocean too long and didn't take my motion sickness pills so I only did it for a little bit. The tour guides were very helpful and nice! Overall, very good tour and would do it again! read more

This was the absolute best decision we made during our time in Grand Cayman. The booking process was so simple online, and the check-in at the counter was quick and completely painless. Our tour was the snorkeling, stingray and starfish - and it was about $150 for the two of us, and it was the absolute best money we spent on this trip. The crew on our boat (the North Sounders - Nov 8, 2023 - 2:30p) was so engaged, and kind. They got in the water with us, showed us things to make sure not to miss, educated us 1x1 in the water and shared their stories with us. We were so entertained and felt so comfortable the entire time. They made engaging with the stingrays so much fun and completely eased any fears we may have had. They took such fun pictures of us and we are so happy to have them to remember this day! Definitely a must do. We had ZERO issues and it was an experience we'll never forget! I won't be reviewing the sites since that won't be fair for this business. This place is good but not great. You stay at an attraction for 30 minutes and then move on to another place and in total, you spend a lot more time on the ship then at the attraction. We had a great experience with Captain Marvin! We checked in at their office close to the cruise terminal. We had a couple hours before our tour time, so we took a public bus ($2.50 pp) to Governor's Beach on seven mile beach. It was beautiful and free. From there it's just a couple minutes walk to Captain's other location. We were picked up for the tour there and dropped off near the cruise terminal after. The whole process was very smooth. We did the stingray, snorkeling, and starfish tour at 10:30. For a family of 5 this was the best value. At each stop at least one of the men (Suger, Jimbo, and Polo) on our boat (North Sounder) got into the water with us and would point out things to look for. At Stingray City, they took pictures of everyone with a stingray and at the end, you could purchase the pictures if you wanted. Suger, Jimbo, and Polo were very knowledgeable and were watching out for everyone's safety, the entire time. If we come back to the Cayman Islands, we will take another trip with Captain Marvin's. read more

Our family of 4 was picked up by the complimentary shuttle driven by Shane. He took us to the Cayman Turtle Center. Benny at the Turtle Center gave us a tour. We had time for a quick bite across the street at the Dolphin place before Shane picked us up for the boat. There were 14 people on the tour. Jermy was the captain. Dayton was the first mate. Jason was the photographer. We stopped at Coral City and a reef for snorkeling. They have gear that can be borrowed. Then we went to Stingray City which was incredible. 7 years of good luck for kissing a stingray. Then we went to Starfish Pointe. Not only did we pose with starfish but my sons and husband were able to jump from the top of the boat into the water. We had a great time and this really packed a lot into one afternoon. DO NOT go to Crystal Caves with this company. The stingray and starfish excursion were great but they dropped us off at starfish point to go traipsing through the woods to find a random lady that took us on a 20 minute bus ride to Crystal caves, which was NO FUN. In the ads they show you a picture of a beautiful cave with crystal clear water. You're at that spot for maybe a minute and the rest of the excursion you're walking around sweating and swatting at bugs. We were not told about how long this would take. The worst part of our experience and reason for my rating is because after Crystal caves we got dropped off at a random location (I think a shut down restaurant possibly) and sat in the blazing sun for an hour and fifteen minutes- no food, no water, no shade, no idea how long we were going to bake there, or who was supposed to be picking us up. We were finally picked up by a different boat with a different captain and mates we'd never met. It was the worst setup ever with many flaws. The captain and mate were great at stingray city, would highly recommend doing both stingray city and starfish point with them. BUT NOT CRYSTAL CAVES. I cannot believe they even have it as an option. Captain Marvin's needs to altogether get rid of the crystal caves option in my opinion. What a mess. It was our last day on the island and really ruined it for us. We didn't get back to the hotel until after 2:30- and all we had eaten was a granola bar for breakfast! Terrible. read more

We went to String Ray City with Captain Marvin today. It was a great day!!!! The crew was fantastic. My wife does not swim and very nervous around water. She was prepared to watch all the fun from the boat. However the crew put a life jacket on her and carefully got her into the water and kissing string rays. When she returned to the boat she cried with shear joy. The experience made her vacation. We priced other tours thru the hotel and found Capt Marvin's to be less expensive. The hotel recommended Tour had customers come over to us and ask if the Capt Marvin photographer could take their pictures since the tour they were on did not have one. We stumbled upon this place since we were staying at the Westin and always eat at Yoshi Sushi (awesome place btw) For $45 we got a boat ride to a reef, stingray city sand bar, and a third stop for even more snorkeling in blue water!
