I am a Freshman in my second semester at this school. I spent my first semester at a different…read moreschool so this is my first semester here. I have not only been ignored by my teachers, but the administration is rude. I am coming up on a deadline to register for fall/summer classes, and I had refreshed my emails and messages for weeks looking for instructions. I had even called the school and emailed my advisor once I finally found out who she was. In the end, I had to contact the advising office to get a group email sent out so that I could get a response. This woman proceeded to say that she has tried multiple times to contact me (I have no messages from her), say this is a recurring pattern (this is my first semester here and i have never received any messages from her this entire semester), and ask the other administrator how they should address this as if I'm not in the email as well. She also asks if she should send proof, which I would appreciate from her because I missed my mandatory group advising due to this. In my opinion, this is highly unprofessional and the amount of miscommunication and lack of responses from the staff at this school does not reflect the quality of service they offer.

For Parents of Incoming Freshmen I want to offer a quick,…read morehonest warning to other parents: One of the biggest challenges we've faced is the lack of communication and mentorship for students. Advisors, faculty, and departments often provide little to no guidance, leaving students to navigate important academic decisions on their own. If your child thrives on clear direction, regular check‑ins, or structured support, this may be a difficult environment. Parents are kept almost completely out of the loop, making it hard to understand what your student needs or what's happening academically. Before committing, make sure your student is prepared to advocate for themselves and operate independently--because consistent communication and mentorship are not guaranteed.

I had the most wonderful time at UIW! I have been on their campus a few times, mainly for work, and…read morewhile this visit was also for work- I was able to enjoy a private tour of Brackenridge Villa (its not open to just walk in, and I took a stroll down to the Blue Hole! For starters, This campus is very cool! The Brackenridge manor is breathtaking, the architecture and everything inside is amazing. Little history on this- it basically belonged to George Washington Brackenridge ( which is also named about Brackenridge Park), he made his fortune during the civil war, was president of SAWS and founded San Antonio National Bank. The sisters came from France to fight the cholera epidemic (and also established Santa Rosa Hospital) and were looking for a place to start a new convent, and negotiated 280 acres of his estate for 100k. He didn't think they could pay, but did. Part of the deal was that the estate included every inside- he didn't read between the lines. So, the sisters acquired a very expensive and rare book collection among all other things. It was a motherhouse, a residential place for priests and then a refuge for nuns and priests during the Mexican Revolution. History lesson over. ;) I also got to see the Blue Hole, which is where the San Antonio River literally starts! It was so cool to see. I don't think I've ever thought or asked about where a river starts, much less Our river. It's the source spring for the San Antonio River, when the light hits the water it has a blue tint, and you can see the springs bubbling. The water is supposed to be clear, and you will see fish and turtles swimming too! It's so so so cool!
