DO NOT COME HERE! There have been two suicides within a year and sexual assault at the dorms. The only condolences we get is an email. Then the cops don't do anything except hand out traffic tickets to guys while trying to groom the females that commit the same offense. All the while parking is AWFUL. Can not find a parking spot anywhere so good luck trying to get to campus on time. Also, when you do actually manage to get to class on time the professors are so lazy with grades and don't feel like responding to you when questions are graded wrong. Plus the busses that actually do transport people from parking spots are PACKED! Its like a sardine can and make the people in India afraid of how crammed they are. All UTSA cares about is money and treat you like a number. read more

It's been 4 weeks and I still have not received the remaining balance tuition refund (I got a $10,000 loan and classes cost over $4,000). They have my $5,000. This University is up in the bougie North suburbs of San Antonio and close to some pretty cool things like Six Flags and the La Cantera mall, and some good bubble tea shops and food spots. Unfortunately the Singh's truck moved away and opened up a restaurant, with probably the coolest thing to eat in this area. Wow, time really does go by so freakin' fast! 1 year ago we did the UTSA campus tour for my daughter, who was a high school senior at the time BUT fast forward to 8/18/2018 and my daughter is now officially a UTSA college freshman! Move In Day was on 8/18/18 and everyone at the UTSA campus were just so friendly & very organized. There were campus people on site to help carry belongings into the dorms & I loved how the RA for Laurel Village was going around to all of the dorm rooms to check on the new students moving in & just being available to both our student & to us, as the parents in case we had any questions. FYI, they do have items that the student can borrow. My daughter borrowed the vacuum cleaner that day we moved her in. My daughter stays in Laurel Village w/ a roommate & her apartment dorm has a shared living room space that is open to the kitchen area that has a regular size refrigerator, microwave, and sink. The living room area came furnished w/ a sofa, chair, & 2 tables. You are able to rearrange the furniture to make it feel more inviting which is what this mama did!! :) Each person has their own room w/ lock but they do share a bathroom. I also want to give props to UTSA on how accommodating they were about walking my daughter through the process of getting approved for an emotional support animal. Are you a working student, live in town, and need a valid degree from an actual university? Honestly I never had to many issues here, unlike at Alamo colleges, or lady of the lake. Most professors understand that this is a commuter school. So keep a line of communication with your professors. The best tip I have is pay for garage parking, show up around 7 am, or park in the back parking lot. Parking is chaotic here. The garage parking is now really pricey, but the easiest if your running to and from work. I think it was around $800 last semester, and I think that's waaaaay to high. You'll waist way to much time "sharking" (hunting for parking up close). It's just as bad for handicap parking, you'll see allot of perfectly capable students abusing them. read more

My daughter is a first year student at this University she loves everything about her school and it was easy to get into the dorm that she wanted or should I say I wanted which is Alvarez. I chose Alvarez because it has a indoor Charge of quarters personnel that are ready available to help students and protect them as well. The campus is huge with so many amenities for students, like on campus restaurants, on campus gyms, on campus pools and much much more. I have to say I was very impressed. I will visit this thread again in the near future when she graduates to give a review on how her classes were and professors. read more

It's an okay school but the parking situation is horrendous. You are not guaranteed parking even with a permit. So I had to survive at La Cantera Mall in Barnes and Noble while my wife attended or drive all the way back home and then back to the school to pick her up, then back home again. It's either that or park under the freeway overpass nearest to UTSA which is pretty far and take a city charter bus. It's very dangerous for both women and men. They need to fix this situation, otherwise money talks. read more

I went to the university because I had chosen my major. Since I am an older student and the university is so large I expected to see quite a few my age also but I only saw 2. I spoke to a counselor there and it seemed to me that my returning to school there was more of a funny incident to them then the serious matter it was to me. I will say that they offer a tremendous amount of degree plans. They have what amounts to a small City in their midst. I have put the university on the back burner for now due to my feeling of discomfort after my interview there and since I am a 3.6 grade point average I had no reason to feel that way. I love UTSA. It really has felt like my home away from home ever since i got there. The school is super nice and located in the Best spot in San Antonio. You got the mall, six flags, downtown, and sea world all within 10 minutes. There's a lot of relaxing places on campus and so many clubs and organizations to join. I've had a few bad professors and i mean bad lol, but you're gonna get that at any university. All around a 10/10 university. read more

The admission process with this school as an active duty military member and a transfer student has been a nightmare. I essentially wasted a lot of time and money requesting transcripts from 4 different schools and paying the application fee only to be asked for transcripts from schools I did not attend, but only applied to. When I informed them of this I was told My application would not be considered without. I had my associates degree summa cum laude but they needed letters from schools I had applied to but not attended over 10 years ago. Anyway, due to covid and the fact that the schools I had not attended having no record of my attendance I was unable to provide the requested transcripts and thus my application was not considered, yet my application fee check was cashed without regard for this fact. I requested a refund, but was given the run around and could not resolve the issue. For being in Texas and the supposed military city UTSA is not military friendly nor does it provide good customer service. read more

Just an update from my last review. This school has a lot of good qualities, but also a lot of bad ones. Let's start with the good: 1) There are some quality instructors if you do your research in advance. 2) There are a lot of networking opportunities beyond frats and regular organizations; the school is always hosting recruiter events, etc. 3) There are school sponsored trips depending on your major and field of interest that allow you to learn and explore your major beyond the classroom setting. Now the bad: 1) The parking situation sucks. Unless you are willing to pay a lot of money for a permit, you have to walk across the street. Also, even if you have a permit, it's so packed that you still may have inconveniences. 2) The Financial Aid office sucks, in my opinion. There is nothing but disaster that comes from it in my experience. I'm never helped, I'm always told different things. I wish they got rid of this department altogether. The world would be better without it. 3) Classes are too packed, not enough class availability and options, and teachers who read from powerpoint slides word for word. Give me a break! Overall, it's a decent school, but I'd much rather take my business, because it is a business, elsewhere. read more

Lowkey the worst 4 years of my life. Everything's expensive, even your will to live. The only thing that kept me going was the Starbucks opening until 2 am while i'm cracked out at 3 am at the JPL. Business Building is always -94829292 degrees, making me fall asleep while Leslie Doss is giving me a lecture. Having La Cantera next by is kinda cool though as I can go shopping when I'm depressed. The Rec reeks of testosterone and pre-workout, although that was the only place with electricity and hot water during the freeze in February. So that's why this review is 2 stars instead of 1. Ok, let me tell you a story about this school. First off, it's the best. At least in my opinion. I started off going to a community college, and started applying for colleges. Got accepted to all the big names, Baylor, TCU, Tech, but was peer pressured into attending A&M in college station. Personally, I had a terrible experience there, and only stayed for one semester. I realized after that, that I wanted something smaller, where the classes were more intimate, the campus wasn't as big as a city where I kept getting lost on it, and somewhere where I could grow with the university and be apart of creating traditions with it. I had gone to public school all my life, and especially for the price, I was planning on staying in public school for college. I come from Austin, so I also wanted a university that was closer to my friends and family. I looked into all the colleges in San Antonio, but UTSA was the only one to peak my interest. I didn't even schedule a tour. I just applied, got accepted, and started my classes there. My first semester there, my grades SHOT through the roof - all A's and B's. Soon enough, I was getting tons of emails and invitations for honor societies. The teachers there are amazing. Yes, I've had one or two that were ridiculously hard, or intimidating, but it helped me to work harder. I actually also met/know two other people who transferred from A&M to UTSA as well. In the end, I graduated with university honors, and lots of experience and awards. Over my time here, I have literally fallen in love with this school. The campus is all really close together, so it's easy to find everything! I never got lost. The sombrilla is pretty much like the town square. Lots of greenery, and a large gorgeous fountain (which is now ON and running, and is going to stay that way). Around the fountain is lots of wooden tables and chairs to relax on, or do your homework, or eat lunch, or meet up with people. If you go down the "aztec stairs" (gotta get that exercise in somehow!), you get a whole plethora of new options ranging from hangin out and playing games at The Roost, or getting your hair cut at the salon, or getting a bite to eat at Starbucks, Subway, Taco Cabana, BK, Chili's, or Panda Express. The Rec center is pretty awesome, I've had a dance class in there, and they also have tons of free classes as well. It's fairly big, 2 stories, with lots of machines, a rock wall, a track on the 2nd floor, racquetball courts, swimming pool, etc. Their student housing ranges from traditional style dorm rooms, to apartment style housing, to single room with shared bathrooms. The meal plan is pretty good considering you get unlimited swipes, and unlimited food. About 3 years ago, UTSA started their football program and marching band program, and we have already shot to the top! With only 3 years under our belt, we beat TX State, LA Tech, and finished 2nd in our division this year when we were predicted to come in dead last. Our football games are pretty amazing, lots of games and free swag, and we use smoke machines and fireworks for pretty much anything. Many of our athletes have accomplished top spots in the state, oh, and our cheerleaders are national champions. Seriously - watch these girls during the game. Their stunts are ridiculous. The downtown campus is right smack dab in the middle of the city. The DT campus itself is gorgeous. The architecture is so unique and gorgeous, and theres tons of greenery. This campus is mostly for architecture and art students, but there are other classes here as well. Although it's a bit of a bus drive away, it's really nice and you should at least try to have one class there at least once! UTSA also has a 3rd campus, which is also a museum. Yep. The Institute of Texan Cultures. Lots of people actually don't know that the ITC is our 3rd campus. But it is! Students get in for free. Check it out, the exhibits are really informative, they have a big wide ceiling room for presentations or events, and it's a good place to try to get an internship if you're into history, or anthropology, or something along those lines. Lots of the programs are still growing, while some of them are right there at the top. We have one of the best business schools in the country, and we also have one of only two of the largest/strongest telescopes in the world. We have a virtual library (as well as a normal library), and tons of study abroad opportunities for practically any major. I've spent many many nights in the JPL, the main campus library. It's 4 stories, bottom floor is the noisest, although there is a quiet study area where it's literally so quiet in there, you could hear a fly fart. Anyhow, I could go on for hours. UTSA is growing at RAPID speeds, and tons of traditions are being created every semester for this blooming university. It's super family friendly, kid friendly, and pet friendly as well. I had the best 4 years of my life at the university. Go runners! read more

I have to take off a couple stars from my own experience. The main campus is fairly distant from a lot of things in San Antonio. A lot of the campus is new or being built so there's a lot of construction. In UTSA's defense this was the only public university experience I ever had. I used to hang out with my friends at private schools and the classes were so small and the campus was intimate. I do like the fact that they are trying harder to bring the students together. The football team is soon to be up and running. They have a great basketball program and some soccer programs available as well. There are a lot of student lead groups which are great. One thing I did very much love is the study abroad program on campus. I went to study in Italy one summer thanks to UTSA. They were so helpful with the program and very much wanted me to stay in touch while I was away. You can't beat the price for this university either. It's a great school to go to if you want to stay in San Antonio, and they have really affordable housing around the campus. read more

My experience here hasn't been horrible nor amazing. I'm liking the professors so far, they are very accommodating and nice so far. They provide great information and try. Some things aren't amazing like the student success center here. The instructors here are amazing it's just super packed so it can take forever to be helped.also finding parking her is sometimes almost impossible. read more

I came to visit the school wi the my sister. It's a really nice campus. The walk around campus can get a bit intense, especially in the intense heat of summer. There is a decent amount of restaurants on campus. The students and staff were really kind. They answered all my questions and directed us to the right places if they didn't have the answers. One thing I wished was if they had more shaded areas. The Texas heat is intense and walking around campus can be hard in the direct sunlight. Overall, seemed liked a nice campus. read more

Gooooooo Roadrunners! This is a top tier education! I got my MBA with a concentration in Real Estate Finance here. It was a great education! This school was founded in 1969, and was built out in the middle of a horse ranch in the boonies, way on the outside of town. Since then, San Antonio has grown to encompass the campus, which is huge and sprawling. Parking is always an issue here. My suggestion- go hang out where the sidewalk ends from the pedestrian area of the campus, and offer to pick up people and drive them to their cars so you can take their parking space! Sneaky! The library here, JPL is top notch. Believe me, they'll do anything to help with your education. Just ask! A fun fact about this campus is that it was originally designed to be a prison! It was the same architect that built USAA. If you think about it, it's not hard to imagine this place as a prison. Look at the 5' thick concrete walls, and the design that does not allow for any meeting places that could be potentially used for protests and insurrections. The JPL library is easy to imagine as a prison- the study rooms on the third floor were originally purposed to be solitary confinement cells. The center of JPL was were the guard tower was supposed to go. My favorite thing about UTSA is the Rec Center. Did you know that students and faculty can borrow things like camping gear, water craft, bicycles and kayaks?! Awesome. I really loved attending this school, and the Roadrunners will always have a place in my heart! read more

Attended here my first year then transferred to UT my sophomore year. From my short experience there, UTSA is growing really fast. It's soon to be a Tier 1 university! It's mostly a commuter school but there's still quite a few clubs that everyone can join. It is EXTREMELY DIVERSE!!!! Though I would suggest to build more parking garages and to add a nursing school. The amount of students "majoring" in nursing is astounding. read more

As a UTSA alumni, I'm very happy and very proud to be a roadrunner! I spent my undergraduate years here focusing on Interdisciplinary Studies (aka teaching) and received my degree along with my certification. What I liked about this university is that it has given me a chance at receiving a top notch education from beginning to end. All of the professors and staff opened my eyes and mind to the real world and for that I am grateful for. The classes vary from large to small depending on what classes you are taking. But what I like about my professors were that they liked the fact you ask them for help and they were the best at it. I was there to witness the first ever UTSA football game with over 60,000 in attendance, it had set a record high. I also participated in several organizations and made lifelong friends here. The university has made drastic changes over the years in order to become a tier one campus and has been very successful at it. While I was attending UTSA, I took advantage of all its resources it had to offer. John Peace Library (also called Club JPL) was my second home to study. There is always something to do here at this campus. I'm not sure why I'm seeing 1-3 stars for this campus, it's the best one in San Antonio! Tips- register for classes early so you get your first choice, get to school early so you don't have to fight for parking or ask someone where they parked at. Also register to be a part of the Alumni Association to get into the tailgate parties and network with other UTSA alumna in your area. read more

I really enjoy being a student at UTSA. The campus has a lot of resources available to students, and you better use them because you're paying for them. Additionally, the campus is growing quickly and eager to obtain Tier One status. I highly feel that this university has the ability to do so, as it has already done so much in these past few years that I've been a student. There's a small lack of socializing in the social scene, but most students are just here to learn and get jobs in the real world, or obtain a professor degree after graduation. I could go on and on about UTSA, but ultimately you should definitely put it at the top of your list if you're considering attending this university. You won't regret it. read more

I love both campuses! The downtown campus is extremely quiet and nice. It is small and could use better parking but it's convenient. The main campus is bustling and always has something going on. I have attended both campus during my college career and I have no real complaints about either. You can find food on both campus. Great libraries, good quiet spots to read, fun recreational activities and much more! I will probably get my MBA here and I'm looking forward to attending UTSA again. read more

Man I've never felt so welcomed in my life. I transferred here, and I don't regret my decision at all. The people here are warm, friendly and encourage success to the fullest. Any major has its challenges, but they have a lot of amenities for us students to use. Their program/system called Degreeworks is a lifesaver, you can really plan out what classes you need to take based on your major and it's extremely helpful. read more

UTSA is almost in the "as good as it gets" category. It is amazing on how far this university has come in such a short period of time. At this rate and in another 10 years, this school will be as good, if not better, than any of the top national universities in the country. The campus is beautiful and new buildings are going up all the time. I recently graduated from this school with a degree that is nationally ranked in US News World and Report and each year it seems like more and more programs are also showing up in the rankings. This university is not as big as the one at Austin. Class sizes are about 50 people (though some freshman core classes can be 300+) and the teachers are usually very good. It's not as easy as a community college but the core classes are still pretty easy. There's lots of activities and stuff to do outside of school or just while you are waiting for your next class. The price of tuition is low compared to other 4 year universities which is good. Overall, I'd recommend this university. read more

UTSA is a leading institution in many fields and soon to be a tier one status university. It is full of campus life activities, great housing options, and good research programs. The Cyber security program is the best in the country and the real estate/finance program is top notch. On top of that, they are pouring money into their natural sciences research and education facilities. read more
