I think Workforce One is providing a service that Broward County desperately needs. The mortgage-backed security crisis which hit America in 2008 has percipitated an employment crisis the likes of which this nation has not seen since The Great Depression. Many employers can no longer borrow money from banks and therefore the lay-off of employees is inevitable because there is no longer any money to pay to keep them. The way the entire world works seems to be going through a transition of sorts. As Seth Godin states in his best-selling book, Linchpin, there used to be two groups - management and labor. But now, with the rise of the Internet and Social Media, a third group has emerged - what Godin refers to as "linchpins." These are the people who have an artistic focus toward doing a job. That is to say, they seek to make things better not just acceptable. Linchpins see work as not just a job, but as "an opportunity to shine." However, who is taking the time to tell today's job-seeker to do the unconventional? Who tells him or her to take an artistic approach toward finding employment? Who encourages these folks to pursue a better future - not simply find work? Who is telling them to build relationships with other job-seekers and mutually collaborate to help each other out? Answer: Work Force One. I am particularly impressed with the bi-weekly business networking meetings hosted by Bob Nealon. Here job seekers are no longer referred to as "unemployed," but "salespeople in transition." Having a different mindset toward who you are and what you can accomplish really does matter. At Nealon's bi-weekly meetings folks are actually encouraged to network with each other. No one is encouraged to be a "one-man band" and "go it alone " in the search for a better future. Instead, folks are encouraged to help each other out. Indeed, the idea of campaigning for a specific job with a specific employer using letters of endorsement from fellow members of the PPN Group is not out of the question. If this campaigning approach for a better future for sales professionals in transition catches fire in Pompano Beach, I believe it will spread to other areas of South Florida and beyond. Several workshops are presented at each Career Source Broward location as an in-person class or conducted over zoom, which are taught by certified facilitators. This place does not help anyone get work or training. This is a joke. They are getting paid by our government to help people. The software they use is very wordy and laborious to read all the details on so many pages. They make it difficult to even get a dime of unemployment and they side with employers who out and out lie. I was laid off after four and a half years with United Special Patrol and told me they round not pay me UC because they would find me other work. I finally applied and they told UC that they had offered me a job., three weeks after the fact. Florida UC sided with them and now they are asking me for money back!!!! They don't care about workers. The whole system is a big FAILURE. Broward County is the absolute worst place to ever get any help. read more

My experience at the workforce office in Pompano Beach is one I hope never to experience again. It has been a year since I had to use the services of the employment agency so I was admittedly a little rusty. ANd this was an office in a different city and county from the one I originally used. I went and signed in as the signs directed , noted the number given to me on the computer and sat down to wait for it to be called. I waited and waited, then gave up and went to the desk. Turns out that number means nothing and you need to go to the receptionist after signing in. The receptionist was not busy yet never looked over and called me up or asked me what I was there for. Then when I kept trying to tell her I was there for a food service job interview she kept trying to direct me to food stamps. WHile I had sat there waiting, I listened to her disposition talking to other job seekers. There was a guy who came in who needed to get nto the system. SHe wouldn't dirct him to someone to help him get his application online, she just kept telling him to go home and put it in from there. Finally was directed to go back to Vets services where she basically told me to just go through the door in back. There was a reception desk there as well but no one at it and no one asked me who I was there to see or was there to direct me to the person. I was unsure if I was to wait or just wander back and find the desk of the person I came to see. The guard roaming around did nothing to help though she did get quite involved, when upon finding I had been directed to the wrong office I tried to call the vet rep I was supposed to meet to find out what was going on. I had turned my phone off , so apparently I had noticed the no cell phone signs and I wasn't trying to make a personal call. I was just trying to find where I was supposed to be, and getting a message proceeded to leave one, whereupon she comes over and keeps saying "excuse me" over and over so there was no way to leave one.SHe would not be quiet even when I tried to tell her what I was doing. Maybe she forgets what it is like to be desperate to get a job, have a prospect, only to find you were sent to the wrong place and are going to now miss out on that opportunity. COmpassion is something that is lacking here. The only person who seemed to remotely care about my situation was the vet rep who helped me get hold of the person I was supposed to meet.. SHe emailed and called and tried to resolve the problem. Wish I could remember her name because she was good. I pray to God I never have to go to this office again. Customer service is sorely lacking in people who have grown complacent in their own job security. read more
