Getting my spa at Carefree Pools and Spas was an awesome experience! The showroom was most congenial and informative. Joe, Austin, and Ronnie did an excellent job in installation. A word about Ronnie...this guy is the real McCoy. His knowledge, efficiency, and care was phenomenal. Definitely something unique in today's business world. Spa was delivered with ease and final set up was very professional. We did extensive research on all of the major spa manufacturers. Bullfrog spas are truly the best (nothing compares). We are in the spa every day and have had no issues with the spa since install. Definitely recommend Carefree Pools and Spas to all my friends and family. read more

Use our pool all the time. Had a few problems in the beginning with things (coping around the pool, autofill issue) but eventually got them repaired. I own a vacation rental that has a pool with an automatic cover. The guests broke the rope that closes the cover. I called Carefree pools on Monday. We ordered a Bullfrog Spa from their Costco special and love it. It came faster than expected and just in time to use before I ran a Spartan Race. Matt at Carefree pools was so knowledgeable on all of the Bullfrog spa's incredible options and helped us configure the spa prior to the purchase. The spa was delivered on time and moved onto our back deck with no issues. Ronnie our installation manager was great. Purchased a BullFrog Spa from Robert and Rory at Carefree pools and spas, and recommend them hands down. When we were looking around we went to ALL spa retailers in SLO/ 5 cities area. Robert was knowledgeable and nice, and not pushy. They were the only retail store to follow up with us after our store visit and offered us a spa that was in our price budget. When spa arrived to them late on a Friday afternoon (right in the 3 week mark as promised), Robert came out and installed it late Friday so we could enjoy it for the weekend. I have never given a bad review to a business before but if I could give zero stars I would. I want to caution anyone who may be considering using this company. We had a terrible experience with them when they built our pool and spa. There were numerous problems with both including leaks, lights that didn't work, auto fill that leaked and problems with the cleaner. Once they were paid they essentially refused to take any responsibility and we ended up hiring another company to fix the numerous problems at great expense. The owner of the company, Mike, was literally the rudest business owner I have ever encountered. A co worker of mine had a similar experience with Carefree while getting his pool installed and at one point told them to just "go away". I would advise anyone considering using this company to reconsider and choose another. read more

We went into Carefree Pools last week to discuss pool service for an above ground lap pool we were purchasing. We spoke to a gentleman, I think his name is Ryan but I could be wrong. We discussed several aspects for monthly service and whether or not they could install a solar panel. We even asked them if they did pool assembly, knowing they probably didn't but was worth a try. They gave us a general price range for weekly service (as recommended vs bi-weekly or even monthly) and that someone would come out and assess what we would need. We were happy with that and were told to come back when we had the pool assembled and were ready to go. We left there with the feeling that they would be starting service with us when we were ready. We went in today to start the service as we have our pool up and ready to go. After reiterating what our needs were and inquired again if they installed solar panels, a gentleman spoke up (Ryan was not there this time) and said "we don't do above ground pools". Really? We had not been told that last week, and the same receptionist was sitting there both times but didn't speak up. What a waste of time! Had we known this initially, we would not have waited so long to get a pool service set up to go. Very disappointed BUT the good news is... It's been over a week since I asked them to start pool service at our new home. Since the service is supposed to be once a week, I decided to call them and ask when they might be coming out. The receptionist (who also happened to be quite rude when I initially called, but I decided to overlook that) told me verbatim, "No sir, I cannot tell you when we will be coming to your house, but thank you for asking." UPDATE************************* ------------------------------------------- Shortly after the original review, I was contacted by both the manager and owner of Carefree Pools. An offer was given to help the situation of losing number of configurable circuits (both hot tub and pool light afterwards are on same circuit). So that is good they tried to rectify the situation. I chose not to have them do further work because of my large cost initially to not get it done correctly. Had I been more forgiving to give a 2nd chance, perhaps they would've added the functionality promised but I doubt they would've "fixed" any initial shortcomings of the install. Felt is was only fair to update they did extend a hand to help the situation. ORIGINAL Review ------------------------------------------- Was referred to this company for all pool related services by someone who spends a ton on their pool and highly recommended. I had to replace the pool pump and the extras that were necessary to make it function with all the new features and to get it to work was very expensive compared to the cost of the supplies. The labor was relatively intense of more than 1.5 days of work. However despite me being told of the system being future proof I cannot expand on it at all without buying a bigger new unit! $3600 for new "brains" of the pool control and I cannot expand on it without buying new $500 for just the remote and new panel etc is unacceptable in my eyes. The install job was messy afterwards with nothing water tight so the first rain caused rust in the new unit. PVC glue and primer was left on the system also. It worked when they were done, and they were very friendly about it all, but it was so over priced and over sold, I will not be spending my money on them again. read more

I tried to get Care Free Pools to quote replacing a heater on a system they originally installed. After at least a dozen calls (the receptionist was always very rude on the phone also) broken promises and never a returned call I simply gave up. In spite of already hearing negative feedback from others, I just wanted the original contractor to replace the same heater unit that had wore out to "keep things simple"... I ended up wasting more time, effort and hassle chasing this company down than anything else. In the end, I gave up and called another company that was a night-and-day difference from beginning to end (actually we never got past the beginning with "Care-Free"). I would not recommend Care Free Pool & Spas to anyone read more

I have to chime in here because I feel that the one-star reviews here are so misleading. I am a relatively new customer of Carefree Pools. I called a number of pool contractors in the area to replace our automated pool cover and do additional service work on our pool and spa. Carefree Pools was the only company who returned my calls promptly. The office staff was courteous and informative. Rory, the owner, was a pleasure to do business with. Most of my interactions, however, have been with the pool cover installation technician, Ken. He has been, without exaggeration, a consummate professional -- helping us to understand the system that we inherited from the previous owner, spelling out the options that we have available, and making sure that our installation and service experience was just perfect. There was a MANUFACTURER'S defect in the first pool cover that was installed (so really not the fault of Carefree Pools). When we called to let them know, they replaced the cover without question. The service was so impressive that we decided to hire them to do our weekly pool maintenance as well. It has been great experience there too. I've had my share of disappointing experiences in getting help for our home, so I can understand the frustration of some of the other reviewers, but I try to make it a point to let others know when a company that I've worked with is doing a great job. Very shortsighted business people!! The receptionist has real communication issues and makes it clear that collecting the fee is more important than helping the customer. I gladly paid the technician for the time spent giving me an evaluation of the pool and what it might need. We discussed starting a regular service with them, and potentially a total pool remodel. I had lots of questions about that. I would think that he would have seen that we were discussing additional business and not continuing with the pool review. He accepted payment and we parted. I got a phone call from the receptionist asking for payment for additional time. Whereas, I cannot deny that he was there longer, when it was spent arranging for future work (lots, I might add!!), I cannot imagine that they wouldn't have considered this a great investment of time!! And...if he was not happy when paid, why didn't he say something, rather than having her call me! The silly thing is that they didn't charge my credit card (which they took at the time of appointment, which seemed weird), nor did they call to move forward with any service or work. So they lost out in all ways!!! Amazing!!! I am not surprised to see other reviews about their poor service here. Not sure how they stay in business. I would love to know the name of the companies that others here found to be good!! read more
