The vibe of the place is slightly rustic and not at all to be compared with Mac Donalds, so don't even try! Their pizzas also surpass some of the franchises, so be sure to pop in and dig in.

It's a fairly new establishment in the area, but it's become a regular hangout for a few beers and very good food. You definitely feel the '80's vibe when you're there, and its always nice to see a little appreciation for that era. Their pizzas are delicious, particularly 'Rangi's Hangi' and 'Larry the Lamb'. They do a very nice caesar salad and my favourite main has to be the crispy chicken burger with aioli and melted brie- one of the best restaurant burgers I've had. They've got a good range of ciders and do a few cocktails to quench your thirst. They also serve most of their drinks in 600mL milk bottles, which is a really cool touch. I'd have to say that Nineteen Eighty One is best known for their fortnightly Wednesday quiz nights. The place gets packed and its always a good laugh- there's even a prize for the team that comes second to last.

This same feeling of built up excitement was felt when I found out the renowned Murder Burger was opening down the road from home. Alas, rather than finding this years top toy, it felt like I had been left holding a piece of fruit and half the mince pie which Santa left behind. First off, let me start by saying the service was fine, welcomed by smiling (nervous) staff, who welcomed us and sent us off with a fond farewell. Now, the food. The steak fries were good but the burgers, these "Super Gourmet" burgers weren't all that super. I had the Double beef and wild boar bacon burger, whilst Mrs. D had the scotch fillet steak burger. You have to wonder if the management did their homework, opening below a very popular foodcourt, which boasts great food and good value. The place is bright and colorful, simple menu and what looked like good sandwiches. They also had drinks to go and fountain sodas. Unlike most restaurants in NZ, there wasn't water on the counter so I bought a bottle; they didn't tell me you could get it for free behind the counter. I ordered what sounded like a simple burger and some fries. I loved the packaging; cardboard wrapper that opened to hold it together. The beef quality was just okay; there was way too much sauce and mayo. The fries were too salty so I couldn't finish them. I had much better burgers later on my trip, this one isn't really worth the visit.

There was only one beer available (a hazy IPA which was *mwah* so good!) the fries were more of a Dutch cut than shoestring, but they were also very very good! The pickle chips were sweet pickles; also tasty. It's a small place, with three tables and a long counter. There is an interior connection to the tavern next door. Service was great. You can build up hype about a eatery quite easily these days through social media and such. But to…read morebuild a reputation of quality requires much more. And when you only sell one item, you better make it the best thing ever to stay around. I have heard about Better burgers through friends, colleagues and everyone was going on about how good the burgers were or how busy it is that they make you wait ages. With much expectation I came over for lunch today. I read all the reviews on yelp about it, some good some really bad. So I wanted to make up my own mind, since they only have essentially one burger on the menu. I chose to order the standard hamburger and a double cheese burger. Forgive me if I have discounted the veggie burger as an option. To me, a good burger has to have a number of qualities. 1. The buns should be toasted slightly, and not soggy. 2. The meat pattie has to be juicy and not dry. 3. Everything should be seasoned properly. And 4. The burger has to have the correct meat to bread ratio. To my surprise. Better burger failed to impress today. I have taken photos for this review. As you can see, the double cheese has the perfect meat to bread ratio while the hamburger with the lonely pattie does not. That's not really a biggie to some. Because they might not be able to finish a double. I do sense that's a marketing play though, since the difference between the two burgers is quite minimal. But what's unforgivable is that my buns were stone cold, and soggy from the tomato and wet lettuce. Don't get me wrong, the patties were hot. It's just the buns were cold, it's such a big contrast in temperature. It made the eating experience unpleasant. And flavour wise, the burger was poorly seasoned, bordering bland. It screamed for more sauce. The Chips were over seasoned. Now, last thing I have to be fair about is that the prices are very reasonable for a burger. $6.50 is not expensive by any means. And I do like the soft buns, they would be much better if they were warm though. Overall, I think I would revisit them in a while to review my review. As for now, you can have better burgers at any place else but here.

A "healthier", fresher, hyped, well marketed and more thought through version of a normal McDeeeeees burger. I've also read a few of the yelp reviews of this place and it's true, the more simple the dish the harder it is to execute. If you only have 4 or 5 ingredients in there... You better be careful how you prepare each and every one of them (MKR has taught me a lot hahahahaha) However, the buns are delightfully crispy on the outside and super soft and fluffy on the inside. The patty was seasoned, juicy and oily. Tomato and lettuce were fresh. Pickles were pickled. Fries were a tad too salty but nice and crispy with the skin on (plus the machine they make it with is mesmerizing haha I want one!) but that vanilla milkshake, bro.... So thick it felt like my brain was gna explode from the pressure to suck the milkshake out of the straw. I think the milkshake was the most filling part of the meal. So much so that I felt bloated after haha. Is it sad that I find the fries and shake better than the better burger? Hahaha okok I'll stop. Would I come here again? only if I'm drunk and hungry in town... That would really hit the spot.. (And then run across the road for some gooey mozzarella sticks...)
