Really cool historical structure that gives Eriksberg some unique qualities and ambiance. This is definitely the area of Gothenburg to just sit, chill and people watch in the afternoon.

You can either start south of the Fortress, just by the Bohusbron Bridge (there's a parking lot, 4 hours free) or north of the Fortress at the Ställplats - Husbil Camping and Parking lot (fees apply). The walk along the water and around the Fortress is quite short, but very nice. Sheep roam around free here, so please be respectful of their territory. Dogs are allowed though. There's a bunch of benches with nice views and some water access in case your furry friend needs a quick dip (ours did). If you are visiting the Fortress, be sure not to miss out on this little walk. There are lots of shops and restaurants along this about 1000m long pier. The most famous and also…read moremost beautiful is at the end: The picturesque colorful boat houses at the foot of the Ängebacken cliff. The closer you get to town, the busier it gets. There are several shops, many big brands. But many also overpriced. Nice to look at, but nothing I needed. But this pier for me wasn't about shopping anyway. It's more something to see (or to be seen), and for that it's a wonderful place. Walking along the countless yachts and sailboats. I wonder how they get out if they want to. Because there are three, four boats parked next to. But it's sure a nice sight. At the end of the pier, on the square in the east, there are more restaurants offering good and fresh fish and seafood. We parked just above the Ängebacken cliff with the boat houses. Not only that, but the plaza is definitely a great place to stand on a clear day to take in the view of downtown. The main attraction of the plaza is the large fountain of Poseidon, which is certain to stick out in the mind of any visitor. It's pretty much the perfect meeting point, except for any day when there's a festival, in which case, the place is bound to be overflowing with people.
