I bought a 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe from the Gainesville CarMax as a birthday present to myself. I love the Jeep, but my experience with this dealership has been nothing but frustrating. When I picked up the Jeep, I immediately noticed scratches on the hood and front fenders. I pointed them out before leaving and was assured they would buff out and that I would be contacted to schedule a repair. After I got home, I also discovered two deep chips in the hardtop that were not visible in the original listing photos. The paint was chipped down to the metal, raising concerns about rust. When I went to charge the Jeep, I realized CarMax had only given me half of the charging cable, making it unusable. Since they were closed for the weekend, I called Monday and was told they would have the correct charger ready Tuesday. Before sending my husband to pick it up Tuesday, I called to confirm. Chris, one of the managers, assured me he was looking at the charger while we were on the phone. My husband drove an hour after work only to be told by Scott, the salesperson who sold me the Jeep, that there was no charger and one would have to be ordered. The next morning, I called back to ask how a charger that supposedly existed the day before had disappeared. Chris then told me the charger had actually been there the whole time and that Scott had never asked anyone else if they had it. My husband had to make a second trip after work just to pick up something that should have been handled correctly the first time. I also scheduled an appointment to repair the scratches and chips before leaving for vacation. I explained that I live an hour away and needed the Jeep finished that day. I dropped it off at 8:30 a.m. and didn't receive a single update until 5:00 p.m., when they called to say it was ready. When I arrived, the Jeep had been poorly washed, the scratches looked untouched, and the chips looked like someone had colored them with a black Sharpie. The metal was still visible, and there was black paint smeared around the damage, making it look worse than before. I asked to be reimbursed so I could have a qualified body shop repair it correctly, but they wanted another chance. They asked if they could call me while I was on vacation to schedule another appointment, and I agreed because I wanted the exposed metal repaired before it rusted. Since then, I have heard absolutely nothing. No calls, no follow-up, and no returned messages. I can't reach the service department, and even the main CarMax line has been unable to get anyone in Gainesville to answer. Buying a vehicle should be exciting, especially after spending over 32k and purchasing an extended warranty. Instead, I've dealt with poor communication, wasted trips, inadequate repairs, and complete radio silence. I love my Jeep, but I cannot recommend the Gainesville CarMax based on the way I've been treated after the sale. read more

I liked the staff but not so much their systems took almost 4 hours to finalize the purchase of the vehicle cause the some of the staff didn't really know what was going on but I still think they were quite nice and gave very insightful information so all and all pretty okay experience but definitely need to work on training and wait times and one other thing the detailing on the vehicle was not the greatest definitely missed spots but other than that okay. read more

I am still in the "check out all the options" stage of finding a replacement car after an accident. While visiting my parents (where purchasing a car was not even a possibility on that day), we went by CARMAX so that I could check out multiple models to narrow down the search. Eian was AWESOME. Helped us search what was on the lot, let me sit in multiple models so that I could check visibility and comfort (I do drive a lot), and even checked the market where I live so I would be well-prepared for my best buying experience. This past week I decided to purchase a used BMW (35k) from lot in Gainesville. I found the car I wanted on line in Norcross Ga. I went through the process and talked to a gentleman on the phone who said there was a transport fee and I agreed. He sent email with extended warranty and I never heard from him again. I checked the site daily as it stated transfer in process and it would arrive 5/17. I stopped in Gainesville dealer today just to check on car and to my disbelief they said it was not coming a Ga took it off market. I am disgusted with the communication and the fact the said the tried is BS. There zero missed text calls or emails. They acted like it is no big deal to loose a customer and that is sad. I purchased a 2013 Nissan Rogue from CarMax. It was my first time ever using a dealership to purchase a used car. I have poor credit so my choices were limited to TWO vehicles. I put all of my money down that I had received from the accident I had recently been in that totaled my almost paid for F150. The sticker price on the car read 13,000$ and some change but the grand total at the end turned out to be close to 20k. I still don't know how that worked out. 3 weeks after financing the Nissan, I left for my annual road trip up north to visit family with my children. Several hours after leaving, somewhere in Georgia, my son ( who was driving ) said the car was "not right". I figured it was the mountains maybe and went back to napping. Once I took over driving I realized that there was much more going on than that. I called CarMax and they informed me that there wasn't much I could do while out of town. On the drive back it was so much worse than when I had initially felt. I spent most of the drive hunched over the steering wheel and praying. I almost couldn't keep my eyes on the road at all due to the fact that I could barely go 60 in the slow lane and I was pretty sure we were all gonna die because everyone was tailgating me and flicking us off and cursing us because my ability to accelerate was slowly disappearing. Once we arrived back in Gainesville I scheduled A service appointment and CarMax determined that I needed a new transmission. They were unable to perform the repair and recommended Continental Imports. I got my car in there as fast as I could. Turns out there were five major things wrong with this cars' engine and the work done totaled to almost 10,000$. Fortunately, Justin, the salesman I had when I made this purchase, had talked me into purchasing the CarMax Care warranty. That is the only good thing that I experienced with this purchase. Now, I can't say that the ppl that sold me this car knew it was a true lemon, but I have some thoughts. One thing I did experience with CarMax was that they helped me in a huge way. The CarMax care includes rental reimbursement but I have no credit card so I couldn't rent a car to get us through while the work on my new car took place. (It took almost 3 weeks to get my car back). I asked CarMax if they would help me out with a loaner, explaining my situation and extreme need for transportation. It was only after I stressed to the woman who took my call, 3 transfers after the first call, telling my story each time while they figured out who I needed to talk to, " the car started acting up 3 weeks after I moved it off your lot" "yes, I know I'm over my mileage for returning it, but the problems started while I was out of the state. I got it to the garage as soon as I possibly could" "yes I know I have rental reimbursement but that fact helps me ZERO, because I'm unable to rent a car" "I just made the first payment and my car is unavailable to me for almost a month". This was highly inconvenient. I waited on hold while the woman asked her supervisor and guess what? They did! I couldn't believe it. I totally expected them to say no. They loaned me a vehicle even nicer than the one they sold me and told me I could borrow it for a week. Figures, the day after I got the loaner, my car was ready. Lol. I don't know how my CarMax experience would have been if I had better credit but I'll say I feel like I was sold a trash car and someone involved in the trade-in process knew that fact. I had a 2018 Honda Accord Sport in extremely good condition with almost 51,000 miles on it. I went to the Love Honda dealership and they offered me $18,000 for my car. My brother-in-law told me to check out Carmax. I went online to see what Carmax would offer and they offered me $24,800 (online offer). I was thinking, "no way". I went to the Ocala location and within an hour they offered me exactly what they said they would offer online. I only paid $30,000 for the car and I owed $15,000, so I walked away with $10,000. The people there were very polite and professional. All of them. I would definitely recommend you at least give Carmax the chance to make you an offer. I see hundreds of used cars on Honda's lot, apparently people don't know about Carmax and how much more they offer. read more

Acted like they could care less if I bought a car or not. Went out on lot where they said everything was available and spent 15 min. Looking at a car that we were extremley interested in and went back in to see about test drive and were told the car was on hold simply by someone calling and asking to have it put on hold for up to 7 day so than can come look at it. No money required. They may not ever show up. When we suggested they put something on vehicle they said that was too much trouble. They could cared less that we wasted our time. I will advise everyone I know not to shop there and I have been in the Gainesville area for over 50 years. After I left there I found 3 cars on line that were pretty the same for 4 to 5000 less. read more

They have done nothing but screw me since I bought my car, the latest is if I want to make a payment on the principal amount I have to call them every month. When I call I can not do it in automation I can not do it on the website, I have to get a different agent every time and hope they can file it then remember to go back two days later and fix it so it apply s . I bought my car 8/23/22 the same day it had issues. I called it was towed and they kept it for one week. I go it back and it started running hot. They had it towed again , kept it for another week. I got it back and drove for one week now more issues . Which is crazy because Carmax states all their cars have passed a service test which is a LIE . I'm definitely taking advantage of their 30 day money back guarantee offer. I would NEVER purchase a car from Carmax again. Also when I got the car it was disgusting on the inside dog hair everywhere (I have horrible allergies) they swear it was cleaned and detailed but it was not. I bought essentially the same car, but a model year newer, and with slightly less mileage, for the same price these guys quoted me. We bought our SUV outright the day we drove down. Open the back glass and it was nasty never was cleaned by carmax , after folding seats down ( for our kids to get in ) we found dog hair on the cloth part of the seats. The guy had us signing papers for little over 2 hours only to call us 2 weeks after to say my wife didn't sign the title ( she signed everything I did ). After about 4 days I got into the glove box to check our paper work only to find that the registration was left out and it had to be mailed to us after I called them. Can't give them credit for getting me the car I wanted, because we found it... So this rating is on business practice and customer service. I wasn't planning to buy a car. But a driver pulled out in front of me and totaled my car. So I was not in a great frame of mind with a broken sternum but sometimes you just have to move. My husband found the top 5 safety rated cars on my desired category but carmax did not have many. And what they did have were all dark interior and exterior colors... We live in Florida. You'd think they would realize the elephant in that room. Finally found a light exterior car, and purchased light floor mats, dash cover and seat covers. Second problem at least at the Gainesville store, we never saw the same person twice. So every time you had to begin again. Third, they never asked who to title car in so they cost me money as they put my car in my husband's name first and I lost 5 months of registration fees. They are just not very customer oriented. read more

I previously took my 2012 Hyundai Genesis to CarMax Service in Gainesville, FL for problems with my windows getting stuck in the up or down position. I also advised of a problem with my AC intermittently blowing hot air. In both cases I was told that the problem could not be duplicated. Ironically, my local Hyundai dealership was able to locate a bad window switch and pulled out two completely clogged air filters. The sales department at CarMax provided wonderful service; however, I will not be returning to the service department for my future needs. read more

The service department at Carmax is exceptional! I bought a BMW from the Tampa Carmax 3 years ago, and since then it has had several computer glitches that have required repairs. Usually these glitches need to be fixed by the dealership, but with my Carmax warranty I have had over $6,000 worth of work covered. (Ps. All they do Is drive my car down to the BMW dealership down the road and have them fix it without the premium price!). I have worked with Dave who has made every repair hassle free by staying late so I can pick up/drop off my car and even providing me with a rental car FOR FREE. I have been trying to purchase a car from CarMax since September. I drove to Atlanta Ga to get a 2017 Nissan Maximum. I was locked out of my payroll website after to many tries, so the car did not come home with me. I called on that Monday to see if I could have the $250.00 waived because I did not want to drive all the way back to Atlanta. five hours from me. The Rep Cameron informed me that it should not be an issue. Well it was. The car was shipped and i had no clue it had made it to Gainesville. No one from the local store informed me that they car was here. no phone call no text and no e-mail. I was in contact with Car Max care team all this time as well. October 12, I went to the local dealership to get the car. I was informed that the car was being shipped to Miami. and the person who paid for it wants to keep the car. I was livid angry and mad. The manger didn't help and did not have a solution at all for me. the Sales person K ellis was the only person who tried to make the situation better. So we find a car, and they ship it from Mississippi. My pre-approval no down payment and 775.00 per month. Well I went to pick the car up on Monday 10/25/2021. The store manger review the finale paperwork and there was a discrepancy in my pay. I tried to explain this to her and she wasn't having it at all. We may have gotten a little loud., but I was not screaming. I left the store. I went home upset and beat. The next day Tuesday I texted K. Ellis to inform her of the out come. in the meantime I called the cooperate office again. This time i was on hold for long periods of time, I was hung up on. Then I was just plain out lied to about having a solution made. K Ellis texted me and stated that because i called cooperate again that she could not assist me any longer. After being on hold for two hours a rep by the name of Anthony informed me that i was banned for life in doing business with Car Max, with all the stores. I am hurt and I frustrated. read more

Bought a Jeep 2004 liberty about a year ago. First the battery died, that was resolved. Now after a year there is a vibration in the front end, the mechanic said that the car is not safe to drive. The ball joints and lower arms need to be replaced. I didn't sign up for Max car as the milage was high already on the car and it would probably not be covered anyway. So my question is why should I buy from carmax and pay 3 time the price, as listed by private sellers, when i'm going to have major issues like this? Believe it or not, if you have a little trust in your salesman, you will continue to come back. This guy is sending them out before they get in. DO. NOT. DO. IT.! THE worst experience. This company will make the sale and wipe their hands clean of any and all responsibility for the low quality of their vehicles. Customer service is fine during the sale, after... abysmal. The lemon that was passed as a vehicle at purchase stopped working after one month. Carmax... could not help. A couple of months later the radiator goes. Carmax?... Carmax who? No help. Approximately six months after that... this same vehicle needs an entire new motor. Carmax will not even touch it. The local Carmax refers me to the Carmax two hours away (where the vehicle was purchased). And Corporate's "Customer Relations" team refers me back to the local Carmax (at first). Later changing their recommendation to the Carmax where it was purchase (two hours away) simce corporate is not sure of what the options are to help a 100% dissatisfied customer who has a working vehicle only 60% of the time since purchase. Then, after dealing with the original Carmax where the vehicle was purchase... this dumbfounded customer is now reffered back to the local Carmax. So, on top of poor quality and awful customer service... let us add a lack of communication to the list of Carmax's best qualities. Finally, after being refered back to the local Carmax... they. will. not. even. diagnose. their. vehicle (sorry... lemon). They will not touch it. At. All. Days later of back and forth and they will not look at it. They somehow apraised it but will not look under the hood to assess repair cost. This process is exhausting. Can NOT believe a company has so very little regard for their customer or even their name. Advise: do not even consider Carmax an option. If the above is ignored and one does decide to deal with this company... purchase the warrenty. You will need it. NO DOUBT. Although, from what is understood... it probably will not cover all of what may go wrong with the lemon that one may walk out with. Therefore, just turn elsewhere. There will be no company that will do you worse than Carmax. (P.S. - If it were possible... a big ZERO STARS to this company.) (P.P.S.- I never write reviews.
