As Managing Director of a theatre company, I hired Carol Fox & Associates in 2014 and had a disastrous experience. The Account Manager, Ann Fink, was a joy to work with - very competent and extremely committed to our account. The Marketing person was a nightmare and display ads in the Trib never appeared and I lost incredible money at the box office. After 5 weeks of no display ads in the Tribune, countless excuses and promises from the CF&A marketing person, I called Carol Fox - whom I never had dealings with until then - and used the "lawyer" word. She cried and told me how important my account was to her and wanted to meet. I fell for her act. We had a meeting and there were counted out cookies for me and my business partner but none for her team. It was clear management had no control of or care for the daily operations of the office. I went back there in 2015 due to the relationship established with Account Manager Ann Fink and this time there was a bait and switch with the contract which I did not find out until our first production meeting in March, 2014. The play opened in April, 2015. It was too late to change. The VP who attended yawn3ed through the meeting and couldn't care less about the account which was a total of $4,500 in fees per engagement. When I approached the CF&A management I was told to go back to the contract and that was all they would honor. They cared only about their fees. Sad. Unprofessional. Needless to say, the ethics of the Carol Fox & Associates management team I find, is severely lacking in any kind of integrity and is out only for the money. I am sad because I will miss working with Account Manager Ann Fink. In the meantime I have found another marketing organization that has done more for my theater company in two months than Carol Fox & Associates ever did for $9,000 in fees. My theatre company hired Carol Fox & Associates to handle the PR & Marketing for one of our productions in 2014. The relationship started off well. We had a wonderful rep, Ann Fink, working with us on the marketing and another person who will remain unamed handling the PR aspects. Ann was great. The person handling the PR was a whole other matter. We asked her to place ads in the Chicago Tribune to drive our sales. She told us she did this and never did. This happened 3 times, costing our box office hundreds of dollars in lost revenue. Carol stepped in after we threatened a law suit and, at her own expense, placed an ad in the Trib at her cost our final weekend which generated large audiences for the final two performances. She apologized and tried to repair the relationship by offering some pro-bono work for our smaller shows by sending out press releases. Even after this debacle we decided to give Carol Fox & Associates another shot for our large 2015 production. We expressed upfront that we would handle the placing of ads with the Trib (since we trusted them and got screwed) but that we wanted Marketing and PR like before. We were told that this would not be a problem. We get the agreement at the end of 2014 and sign it, thinking it was the same contract as before. It was not. We were paying the same price BUT without any PR. We found this out at our first meeting in 2016 and were miffed to say the least. Once again we lost large sums of box office as a result. Since this was a bait and switch we refused to pay the last retainer. She has demanded payment. NEVER use this firm. They do not have integrity and you cannot trust them. read more
