In the end, our builder's preferred lender offered incentives that Stephen said were actually worth "real money" and not just a shell game, adding fees here and there to make the offer look more appealing. When we expressed shock that he would be so forthcoming when it didn't benefit him, he simply said that doing right by us would bring us back to his company in the future if we ever need another loan.
