It is really easy to get to from Melbourne…read more You can take a train from Flinders Street station direct to Werribee after you get off the train stop at Werribee, there is a bus that runs to the zoo. They run pretty frequently on the weekend and are always filled with tourists going to the zoo or the mansion. During the weekday, the bus runs hourly, so make sure you check out the schedule or it is really easy to grab an Uber from the train station as an alternative. The highlight of this zoo absolutely has be the safari. If you go during peak times or on the weekends, there's going to be a very long line to go on the safari. It is very similar to the animal kingdom safari if you have gone to Disneyland in the states. You get to see a variety of animals in their natural habitat and learn a lot of fun facts about the zoo one of my favorite fun facts was that the Water buffalo smell absolutely terrible. Food options aren't great at the zoo but you can get a burger and some good coffee. There are some nice spots to eat by the train station so maybe build in some time to stop there before heading home. TLDR definitely worth a visit. You can also expand your trip and go to the mansion. Really easy and fun day trip from Melbourne.

An incredible park set over 10 hectares and filled with the most beautiful big old trees, formal gardens and open spaces, for pantheists, nature lovers or those with green fingers, Werribee Park is a real treat. Boasting not only some pretty incredible planting but attractions such as the Victoria State Rose Garden which is planted with 5,000 roses; The Werribee Park Sculpture Walk featuring large scale works by some of Australia's most lauded sculptors; and of course the Werribee Mansion, a 60 room Victorian estate which now also houses a cafe, Werribee Park, only 30 minutes from Melbourne is a must-visit.

However, while you…read morecan swim in the sea, they also have a pretty cool pool at one end, and honestly, I'm actually more of a swimming in the pool type of person than swimming in the ocean (unless I am out far enough where I am not touching the bottom). The reserve itself is pretty cool, especially all of the bollards that are around the place, which has been painted to appear to be people. In fact these bollards seem to be an aspect of Geelong that make the city unique.

Walking upon the boardwalk heading into 'the beach section' you will notice metal plaques on each piece of slats with a name on it, the individuals kindly paid and donated that particular slats for the boardwalk. In the beach section, apart from swimming, you can have lots of fun where there are floating islands where you could play by sliding off a rotating barrel and into the water or simply climb up a large diving tower for that big splash you were hanging out for plus more. You can see many lifeguards patrolling the area that puts your mind at ease as well. If you want something to eat or have a cool drink or treat, there are kiosks there to cater for your needs. They also have a picnic area with facilities or playgrounds if you don't want to get wet - lots to do there. But what this beach is famously known for is their Baywalk Bollards, scattered all over the place. Each set of bollards represent a story of the city's past, the bollards are from old timbers and piles from a city pier and transformed into beautiful work of art by an Australian artist Jan Mitchell. If you want to know the story that goes with the bollards, there is a book available for purchase from the Carousel at the Waterfront. And yes... I couldn't help myself, I had to take a photo of myself with these characters. You could easily spend a whole day there with plenty to do and see.

This I think is actually a pretty good thing, particularly since parks tend to be quite a nice and relaxing, and public, space to spend some time. Firstly, the food at GMHBA is awesome but a little too expensive. My favourite part about GMHBA is that there is no roof and the building is colossal. Secondly, the tickets are very affordable and the view is perfect! Lastly, the service is amazing and the staff are so nice. Plus, there's a huge variety of delicious food for all. This is the place where my love / obsession with rock climbing began!…read more Its an excellent place to climb as its relatively quiet and the staff go out of their way to help you out as a new climber. The walls are very high (I think they are the highest indoor walls in Melbourne) and the climbs are relatively hard compared to the city climbing walls - making it a tough workout! What I also like about this place is that it is part of a larger complex and thus they have a cafe where you can buy sandwiches etc and a large carpark so you dont have to worry about parking. Its also not as far as people think - people hear the word "Altona" and think its the end of the earth, but its actually not far from the inner suburbs really - particularly with Geelong Road. They also do some great deals - I got a pass for 10 sessions + 5 free sessions (so 15 sessions all up) for $125!!!! They also quite often shout you the shoes or equipment (for hire of course)! My only criticism is that it doesnt open until 4pm. Id rather climb a bit earlier in the day, but thats not such a huge problem for me...

A lovely right hander that can be surfed from half a metre to over three metres. The waves rap…read moreatmospherically around a sandy cliff. The point of the reef extended out from the cliff providing the take off point. Rides are long and workable, very enjoyable when smaller on a long board. In front is a typically beautiful sandy beach overlooked by native coastel bush, especially coastal Banksia trees. It's only about an hour and 20 mins from the centre of melbourne or a half hour from Geelong, so well worth a visit. If it's not working then there are plenty of other waves nearby that might be. Best surfers in the world compete here every Easter and it's refered to by Keanau Reeves in Point Break.
