Let me be clear, they in no way compensated me for this review that is about to be submitted…read more I placed an ad through Thumbtack for the creation of a door that was not necessarily done before. Due to space constraints, I wanted a pocket door, but didn't want to cut the wall, so I settled on a barn door, but wanted it split as to save space on either side. When I called Steve Miller, he said emphatically, "yeah, I think we can do that". He and Dave (one of his workers came) and after hearing my idea, you could tell the ideas were percolating. He came up with a great idea for the split barn door and gave me options of whether to go cheap or if I wanted it to be perfect what it would be (I chose the latter). To be honest, the price was well under what I thought it would be by many hundreds of dollars. I also asked about replacing the front door, of which he said was no problem. Steve guided me to the find the best wood people in town to make sure I got a quality product and made sure I got the best prices. All was set and done until I removed an embedded counter that showed broken tile and sheetrock underneath. No matter. . .Steve was able to fit that in as well. His tile guy, Nick, was phenomenal and was a true artist and professional in his work. They set the tile, fixed the grout, fixed the drywall and replaced the baseboards. It looks completely brand new. While doing this, they were able to install the new door, create the new split barn door (with Julie, who is an artist and visionary in her own right) leading the design of it. Even though I was a bad client (adding more jobs on top one right after the other), it was done better than when I bought the house. Steve is a great boss to his people. He treats them well, and more importantly, he respects and values their opinions and help. They revere him and it shows in the quality of work and efficiency of which the tasks were completed. More importantly, when you see their minds work (including Steve as the architect), it is like watching real artists work, not just laborers. They take great pride in their art and I am extremely happy with the products. When it was all completed, the price was not commensurate with the quality of work involved. He could have charged me a few hundred dollars more and it would have still been a value. Steve Miller and his crew are top professionals and I guarantee that anytime I need a project done, they are number one on the list. You will not go wrong hiring them and I can promise it will be an enjoyable experience for all.

Came home to find they had ripped it all out to do a new work install. When I complained and pointed out it would have been much less labor (expense) to do it the way I asked, The contractor said he would reduce the price on the window install and 'make it up somewhere else'. Months after the job was done, my girlfriend taped a sign on a porch post like she always had in the past. She holds art sales on out porch. When she pulled off the scotch tape, the paint came away with the tape. Per the paint manufacturer and basic common sense, the house should have been pressure washed prior to paint. Bogdal did no prep work at all and blamed the paint peeling on us for putting tape on the post! I contacted the paint manufacturer who confirmed the paint was not properly applied.

Also noticed that paint on a door that they had painted was cracking and needed touch up. So very small things that could be remedied quickly. I have been very nice the entire time. Started trying to contact John Bogdal by cell phone and text about 3 weeks after the job was done. I was delayed due to business travel and my decorator's illness. Have been attempting to get a response for 5-6 months. There was about a 2 month period that I didn't call, as my Mother had been in the hospital and subsequently passed away, which I explained via voice mail. Mr Bogdal replied once last November 2019 but did not follow up. There has been no response to other attempts. Negative reviews are not my thing. I thought I could trust Mr. Bogdal, but just know that if you need him to finish a job, you will probably not hear from him again.
