The gentleman who helped us was friendly, efficient, and got us set up with temporary phones in about 10-15 minutes. He found us the slimmest phones available (perfect for my traveler's across the body bag), and pre-loaded them with the requested amount of money. The phones also took halfway decent photos and came complete with a charging cable which also doubled as a means of transferring the images to the computer. On a random note, I did receive a couple of calls from numbers which I didn't recognize while carrying the phone, but this may be common with temporary phones. (Perhaps the numbers are re-purposed ?) In addition, Vodafone sends a good number of helpful text messages, and if they annoy you, you have the chance to opt out. All in all, I'd probably visit Vodafone again if in the UK, as they served us well while we were there.

They told me both SIM cards were not being read, both motherboards were useless, needed to replace both phones. They "tried" a new SIM in each, put them in upside down. It turned out to be a local mast problem, fixed later in the day while I was wondering about their advice. This is preposterous, 2 new phones could have cost me £1000, their s0-called advice was useless, wrong and seemingly self-serving. How can staff in a phone shop not know how to put in a SIM? A couple of weeks ago (days after making the final payment) I lost the phone and went back to sort out a new one. Again, they listened to my requirements, took note of my competitor research and didn't try to sell me an expensive phone, just a small upgrade on the one I'd been considering. In fact, the new monthly contract including airtime was slightly cheaper than the one two years ago. Sales assistant Naim was excellent. I'd forgotten to contact O2 to unlock the replacement sim card that had arrived a few days earlier, but he sorted that out, explained everything, brought me back into contract and got the phone working.

Yeah, I'm kind of biased to the fact that UK celluar service is so much cheaper than it is in the US, but all that aside, it was a quick, easy good value here. The only annoyance came along when I couldn't make my purchase using my credit card. There is a chip and pin system that isn't used in the US that they require for purchases over 100 pounds, so even though they take credit I had to run across the street for cash.

We were promptly and warmly greeted by Jerome. After we explained that we needed to activate our cell phone with an O2 SIM card, he took us over to Luke. Jerome offered me a place to relax and gave me a bottle of water. What I noticed that was different here was that they did not pounce on you upon arrival and try to sell you something. They listened to your needs and then addressed them. Luke had our cell phone up and running in no time. I happen to meet the General Manager, Matthew, and another Manager, James, who explained the stores philosophy. All of their employees are paid a salary and not a commission. That makes for a stress free shopping experience. Our compliments go out to O2 for a very attractive store and caring employees.
