It's a corner store on the end of a block of shops and they've renovated it really classically. I love their outdoor furniture, it's fresh, comfy and I felt like I could stay their all day. Their wild rice salad caught my eye and it smelt amazing when the waitress placed it down in front of me. It was an asian style salad with chickpeas, vegetables and loads of fragrant flavours. The staff were really friendly and you could tell it's a community café as the waitress was having a good chat to one of the customers and actually knew him by name! Good on them. They're doing a good job and I'll definitely be stopping in next time I'm in St Heliers.

I ordered an Iced Coffee and a Melting Moment cookie; which arrived within less than 10 minutes of my ordering- a smooth rich iced coffee was refreshing and revitalizing, and my melting moment had a kick to it, and was inner iced with passion fruit- delish! I had a scan of the counter food, which had laid out panini's, sandwiches, slices, cakes, quiches and pies to reheat if needed; and there is also a menu with traditional favorites also. They have lovely kind service. You have lots of seating provided, out the front ,inside on tables or couches, in the middle dining lounge or even out the back on a wooden deck overlooking Birkdale. Cool colourful stained glass windows at the front and short staircase down and around to the outside for bathrooms. Loved their shelf with colourful tea cups and magazines along the banister. Very casual, homely feel. Definitely worth a look in.

We are actually quite lucky in New Zealand as we have a number of very good cafes like this one who make great coffee. My sister lives in London and she says the best cafe she goes to for the coffee is one owned by New Zealnders. I always pop in for a coffee at Santos because they just get everything so perfectly right in my cup. Every mouthful of my mocha is just pure bliss. The staff is usually the cool ethnic skater boys or girl type and are helpful and quick. I like that the menu has simple but delicious choices; I have enjoyed the eggs Benedict with sides of avocado and salmon- very tasty. The panini's here are also fresh and zesty. I also love the Santos brownies, quite delicious combo with the silky yummy coffee they produce.
