I want something handmade in the place I'm visiting. This store had so many nice items from prints to ornaments to magnets. If you're looking for something unique to take home or to gift to your friends and family at home, this is the spot.

They have beautiful art and crafts from local artisans - from jewelry to paintings to photographs to ceramic and more. Everything is so unique and special; nothing mass produced. There were several pieces I wanted to buy, but I settled on a small painting and a large framed photo. The only problem is the photo in the frame was too big to take on the plane back home. The store could not take the photograph out of the professional framing, but they took my information and reached out to the artist to see if she could bring in a copy of the photograph without a frame. They called me back a couple of weeks later, the artist had brought in the photo and they were happy to ship to me. I have never had such wonderful service from a store where they went out of their way to make a customer happy. 10/10 definitely would recommend for unique finds, great customer service, and to support local artists.

***My patented pre-visit tip: Bring bags or be prepared to shell out a buck for a reusable shopping…read morebag, they don't use paper or plastic shopping bags!*** Look, who doesn't want to nab some souvenirs to take back to the fam when they're on a trip? Easy. Pop into any gift shop, grab some clam shells with googly eyes, a velour bag of polished rocks, and a novelty t-shirt that informs people that the wearer received nothing from your visit but its lousy self. Look at the labels on those items. Where were they made? I'll bet they were made in China, just like the other 92% of stuff you own. Those clam shells? They're the same ones you'll find at gift shops from Puerto Rico to Florida to Maine. I absolutely sh*t you not, on our trip to PR, I found some resin elephant statues emblazened with "Puerto Rico" banner stickers glued to the bases. Seriously. Elephants. Everyone knows Puerto Rico has been elephant free ever since the Great Elephant War of '72. So stupid. This shop (and its sister) features items made in PR by PR folks. From postcards to coffee to instruments to ceramics to knit doll clothes to cigars and candy, everything you find here is made locally. It's a bit spendy compared to the crap in the standard souvenir shops, but it's worth a few dollars and/or cents more to help the local economy and to support local artists and farmers. This store is always well-staffed, and although some of the attention they pay you is clearly because they want to make sure you're not filling your pockets with merchandise. That said, they are extremely knowledgeable about their products and helpful. Keep Chinese-made souvenirs for your next trip to China. When you're in PR, stop here for quality and authenticity. And be sure to ask them about elephant statues.

Prices are a bit more than I would like to pay for some of the items (probably due to the touristic location), but some items, especially the smaller jewelry pieces, are more reasonable. Definitely recommend their jewelry for its uniqueness and fashion, but be careful when you are wearing the beaded pieces because they can easily break. I was launching my suitcase into an Uber on a prior trip and broke a portion of a beaded necklace.

When I was trying to check out, the woman wouldn't move the machine that accepts cards, so I had to reach around the register to try to tap my phone. It wasn't working (likely because the angle was wrong). I expected her to move it or help me but, instead, she took a sip of her tea, and just looked at me. I said "I don't know what to do," and she said "I don't either. It's not my problem. ApplePay has been working all day." Then went back to her tea. It was like something out of a movie! I told another staff member, but no help. I finally went back, with my husband's credit card, and she made a snide remark to my husband about me! It was such a surreal experience. Why work in a shop to be a jerk to people?
