Dachshunds are know also for getting bad teeth because of the shape of their mouth and being a small mouth. They both died at just over 17 years old. 3 years later we got a new puppy and she is being cared for by Dr Innocenti. She has such loving care about her. When we first got there, I gathered that the woman at the front desk actually didn't like dogs, and wasn't really warm or helpful and wasn't paying attention. Then, we got pulled into a separate room and went through everything with the vet tech. The actual vet was very kind and understanding and my dogs loved him. (Anthony?) he took extra care to express his concern with my dogs and/or make recommendations. I'm not sure about other vets in havasu (a few had already closed permanently) but we also had to wait for 45 minutes in the waiting room after our appointment because they wanted to run tests but didn't want to kick out another paying customer to go in our room. Ultimately it is a business but people have passion around their pets and it seems the folks we worked with weren't as compassionate.

My biggest concern was never just Bella's tooth. It was her weight loss, lack of energy, and…read moreoverall decline in health. I genuinely believed her dental disease was causing these symptoms, and as a pet owner, I trusted the veterinarian to determine whether there was something more serious going on. Bella barely ate because of her bad tooth, so I agreed to the dental procedure hoping it would help her regain weight and energy. Instead, her condition continued to worsen. Looking back, nearly all of the symptoms I was worried about were ultimately caused by a parasitic infection that another veterinarian later diagnosed and treated. What is frustrating is that I am not a veterinarian. I brought Bella in specifically because I did not know what was causing her symptoms. I trusted that a trained professional would investigate why my cat was losing weight and becoming lethargic. Instead, I was left believing her dental issues were the cause while the actual problem went untreated. When I finally sought care elsewhere, the parasite was identified and treated, and Bella improved. As a pet owner, it is difficult to understand how the symptoms that concerned me most were not recognized or investigated sooner. I don't expect perfection from any veterinarian, but I do expect a veterinarian to look beyond one problem and consider the whole animal. My experience left me feeling that Bella's declining condition was not taken seriously enough, and I hope other pet owners ask questions and seek a second opinion if they feel their concerns are not being addressed.
