As a mom of busy teens, Cary Regional Library has become one of my family's favorite places to study, read, and work. Both the kids and I enjoy using the tables and couches in the large, well-lit study areas upstairs. You can grab a table by a window (natural light all day!). And there's a great quiet room upstairs for those who really need to lock in and focus. When you have a long study session, you can take a quick break and get some fresh air at the Downtown Cary Park which is right next door. There is a parking deck where parking is free, but the deck gets busy on some weekends and evenings. I've seen drivers round the corners in that deck going a little too fast. If you have small children, I recommend parking mid‑row--far from the ends where cars sometimes seem to appear out of nowhere. read more

My first-hand review of this library is short: If you think you would enjoy spending time at a Barnes & Noble that doesn't have coffee or food available, can tolerate security's high school-style policing using either verbal or typed warnings on insignificant infractions of its excessive rules of conduct, and can avoid engaging with the kicd (only) male librarian, then your visit will offer a nice view of the Downtown Cary Park, which is the sole feature of this library to make a fuss about. read more

I've visited multiple times. Very clean and organized library. The librarians here seem overly engaged with each other and not the customers, which is fine because I know how to find my book, and I rarely seek assistance unless there are issues. The knowledge level of technology and library software was poor. The staff who assisted me seemed clueless. I approached her to inform her that the self check out kiosk wasn't working instead of using critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills. Both are necessary for librarians - her response was, "it's just a matter of checking out the book" I had to explain to her the option was not on the kiosk, which is why I approached her to check it out. I whether not interact with the Librarians just as much as they prefer not to do their job by engaging with customers. The employee was willing to check me out but did not empathize with the kiosk issue. The selection and quality of books I get here are the best. The WPL app is extremely handy for requesting my holds, and this location is convenient to home and from work to swing by for my books. Adding another star leaves this review at a 3*. If it weren't for the book selection, organization, and cleanliness, this would be a 2* at best due to the poor customer interaction and the glitchy kiosk technology issue on Thursday night, 2/23/23. read more

A brief stop downtown for some wifi and to see what the Cary library is all about. There was plentiful street parking even at 6pm on a weeknight and the library was pretty well packed. Most of the tables were people studying or people working with tutors and studying. There was not enough room for me and a laptop, so I simply poked around, checked out the stacks, and then left. It's a library, so you can expect a relatively speedy and unfiltered wifi. Lots of books in the fiction and non-fiction areas, and several librarians reshelving and available to help. I wish I lived walking distance to here, I'd be here everyday! What a beautiful library! Such a wonderful place to congregate, study and recharge. I stayed here for 4 hours to focus on work and it was just a joy to be in a quiet, clean and organized space. The comfortable chairs are inviting and I was able to get a table with an outlet embedded into its core. Love that, as there's nothing worse than flipping tables over to find an outlet to nurse a battery dying laptop. The staff here are ever so welcoming, there's a friendly guard and also many folks that always ask if they can help you with anything. If you don't have a laptop, there are plenty of computer stations for you to use along with a printer and free open wifi. Hang here all day and drown yourself in any type of book you can think of. The options are endless! There's lots of construction going on but I'm sure in no time it will all be developed. The parking situation is very open, as the garage has plenty of spots for patrons. The new Cary Library is fabulous. It's brand new, with plentiful parking, easy access from the parking deck, a lot of space for reading, working, etc., and a lot of windows for natural lighting. The one thing I'm a little sad about is the kids story time area seems to be smaller (or at least fits less people) than the older library (with steps, which made it easier to sit in). Otherwise, I'm glad the Cary Library got an upgrade! read more

Cary is a burgeoning area, and the downtown is finally reflecting it. Over the past ten years, there has been a constant push to rearrange and change many of the landmarks of this community, but they have been met with resistance on almost every front. I was pleased, therefore, to visit their new library, built at the previously undeveloped curve where Kildare Farm Road ends and Academy Street begins. It's been a long time coming, but the park (which has been around a while) now serves as a suitable anchor for this large space. With a multi floor free parking deck adjacent, this should become even more of a focal point for the community than the older one was. The first floor is dedicated to children's and young adult areas, with plenty of sitting and small group spaces between the stacks. The second floor is for adult services, with a quiet study area, several reading areas, and side tables with power outlets throughout. Much of the Academy Street sides are glass, which looks out into the park and the Cary Arts Center. (I was happy to see that the decorative elements of the fly space above the Arts Center Theatre stage is visible from the seating areas!) The friendly staff are always eager to assist in any way, and it was good to see some familiar faces behind the counters. There is always something of interest here, so stop in when you're downtown! read more

We love coming to the library! The staff is phenomenal and walked us all through our membership questions. They didn't care how long I took or my kids took with filling out details. Smiling and friendly and just super nice. The collection is pretty nice. I think some of the books leveled for K and G are clearly for babies and toddlers but it's not an issue. Parking can be rough considering this is in the heart of Cary but we've always managed to find a nice spot whenever we went after 5 pm. read more

This library still smells new! The outside of the library is quite impressive looking. Their is a parking deck attached to the rear of the building and the front entrance opens up to the heart of downtown Cary. I'm not sure if the library was very crowded because it is still new or another neighboring library is being renovated, but we struggled to find a table to work. We circled around the lower level and upper level twice, almost giving up hope before we were able to find a table. There is seating along the windows, which is nice for individuals to work. The library was not as big as I thought it might be. From the outside it looks like it would be much bigger and more spacious. If you need a break when you are the library, you can walk just a few feet to sit at an outside table and look at the fountain. I will definitely be back to this library, but probably not with a group to do work. read more

As an out-of-towner, I may be biased. I love how progressive the whole city is, but definitely loved how that was reflected in the books displayed in the library. Many currently trending topics of philosophy and consciousness along with some great staff recommendations. My elderly father enjoyed chatting with the library staff and I appreciate that they humored him with his attempts at awkward conversation and jokes. Everyone was friendly and eager to help. The view of the town is gorgeous and it was nice being able to watch the sun set through the giant glass windows. For a small library, it really left a great impression. read more

Updated & modern library with two stories, wifi, & free parking. I love the light and renovated space in here, but unless you're in one of the quiet reading rooms, studying here isn't always ideal. The lower level almost always consists of very young children that are pretty loud more often than not. If you have noise cancelling headphones or go in the early am or late evenings, you might be fine in this aspect. However, the only study/work spaces are on the second level, which line the outskirts of the floor. There really aren't many seating options, especially comfortable ones with access to outlets. I've also noticed their library selection is quite limited- I like to get up every 45 mins or so to browse the shelves as a break from my studying. As an avid reader, there aren't many recognizable options. On a separate note for my high school & college ladies out there, I've noticed on a handful of occasions 2-3 separate men that will come in off the streets & will every now-and-then, linger in the aisles close to where high school/college girl(s) are working or studying. It has visibly made girls uncomfortable on numerous occasions, prompting some to leave. This definitely isn't to fault the library, but it certainly can cause hesitation in me from going here over another library/cafe to work. Just wanted to give a heads up out there to any fellow young women that enjoy studying alone-- going earlier in the day will probably allow you to avoid this. read more

OK, I'll admit bias here, because the Seattle Public Library is the Library Against Which I Judge All Libraries. But this location is the one most convenient to me, one of my friends works here and gave me cool guided tours of all the stacks, and the Wake County Library System in general makes it super-easy to check out and request books online. Which is pretty much what I do exclusively. So this place totally works for me. It's a small but effective location, and never really crowded. There seem to be plenty of public Internet access stations, but I've never used them. So, um, yeah. LIBRARIES! FREE BOOKS, PEOPLE! read more

But I enjoy coming here after a walk up and down South Academy street to read a paper on one of those long sticks and to use the free WiFi. read more

I will have to update my review when they open the new Downtown Cary Library in 2019; but for now this is such a small library compared to the others in Wake County. Being such a small location the book selection is limited as well but the staff is always helpful getting a book transferred from another location quickly. One thing that I do wish they had was CD's to check out. The location is nice and quiet with plenty of seating not majority of the time is not busy where you can't find a place to sit. The location in Downtown is great because you can just take a stroll to may small/locally owned business. Parking is a little tight but hopefully that will all change with the new location being built. read more

Great selection of books but only gave 3 stars due to the strict limit on Internet/computer time and not as many terminals. Have a long queue to wait for a computer to become free. Overall an average but okay library which used to be my primary library before I started going to West Regional Library. My younger brother volunteered here in 2008-2010 and did an excellent job. I recommend renovating this library and building more internet terminals. read more

They have an excellent selection, and I can order and renew books online! The Cary library is small and quaint, and that is oddly what I like about it. This is the closest library to me and so this is the one I usually go to. Since the library is small, the chances that they will have the book you need is low, however, you can search the online catalog and place yourself on a wait list for the book. My last book arrived the very next day and they will call/email you when it is available for pick up. I thought I would give it a try since I was not in a rush for the book and I was pleasantly suprised that it was ready for pick up the very next day. It was quite convenient. read more

Great location, extra parking on the street when the parking lot fills up and friendly staff. A little too small and crowded, but that's why they're building a new branch across the street. Their story times are in a nice little stadium corner and it means everyone has a good view, even if they are a little crowded. They had a very talented children's librarian that played ukulele but I have not seen her this year so we have been making the trip up to Cameron Village to see Mr Eric do his thing more and more lately. read more

A little lost in time, or nostalgic I guess. But I like taking my kids to this library in Cary. Reminds me of my childhood at the library. We usually hang out, read some books and then check out a few. Then we walk downtown and get a cookie at Blue Moon Bakery or have an ice cream at Ashworths. Their story time programs are nice and checking out books is very easy. The people who work there are very helpful too. You can get email reminders when your book are due and they will also email you if you order a book from another location. Also you can check out and drop off books at any Wake County location, which is very convenient. The facility just needs to be remodeled/updated. Maybe the death of Borders and the decline of Barnes and Noble will mean a revival of the public library system. What's old is new again. ?? I heard the Town of Cary is planning a new library downtown, but not sure when. read more

Today, Dec. 27, I went to the Cary library to both return a book and donate 2 books. To my surprise and disappointment, it was closed! I'd found the same thing on Dec. 24, but that being the day before Christmas, it was more understandable. Nevertheless, I am accustomed to libraries being open when children are out of school and adults are off work, and these closings do not seem in the spirit of libraries, namely to PROMOTE reading. read more
