And then farther up is an inviting pool (and from its side you hear the sound of falling water) - and of course, the purple tree! For me, this is really one of the nicest places to have a staycation, in some ways better than in hotels. There is nothing quite like eating breakfast under the purple tree while staring out into the pool. It is utter relaxation. It felt like my own private escape, but with style. The AC was functional, the bathtub was spacious and relaxing. I had a few nights of really good sleep in total comfort. Though this hotel compound is in a borderline sketchy area, I felt completely safe and secure during my stay. There's a guard at the entrance to the compound that takes note of everyone coming and going. If you have someone picking you up, you can just notify the desk that you're expecting someone. When walking inside Manila Hotel they have many beautiful Filipiniana gowns displayed by many different artists. Each gown is meticulously pieced together by Filipino artists and stylists. It was important for us to see this hotel as we pass on the importance of culture and history to our children. I remember when I was much younger my grandparents and grandfather would take us here for lunch and during the summer when I'm off school with family and friends. The Manila Hotel has sentimental value for our family (on both sides). My grandfather was a prominent lawyer in the 70s, 80s and 90s. When he was busy working and meeting clients here, he would make sure to have us picked up and brought here so he wouldn't miss dinner with us. Love the aesthetics of the hotel along with the paintings that hang along the hotel and the hallway towards Cafe Ilang Ilang. Felt the history of it all when I last visited Manila Hotel at 8 years old. Thankful to be able to visit this place and show our child the rich history of Manila Hotel so she can write about it. Greeted me and my family with a smile. Their lobby was amazing. Huge! It accommodated my very big Filipino and extended Filipino families and friends too! Our room was tastefully done. Nice view, cozy king size bed, modern bathroom and rain shower to boot! They provided free complimentary breakfast buffet which was fantastic. You can order omelet and pancakes too! I had dinner at their restaurant and surprised, they had Italian on their menu. Best part, there is an outskirts mallstrip about a 5 minute walk. There is a drug store, convenience store, Jollibee, and a few other eateries. Mella is also only about a 20 minute car ride to Manila airport. Very convenient. Oh, I almost forgot.
