We paid a hefty $1,300 deposit and were so excited to work with her. Her style fit ours perfectly and she came recommended by our good friends who used her for their wedding. Earlier this year, I lost my job and had to take a massive pay cut, due to that we changed our wedding venue to a much more affordable location in the Northern California area. We explained this to Berlynn and expressed how much we still wanted to work with her despite the change in location. We even sent her a very detailed email showing her that the change in location wouldn't add too much additional travel time. Instead of trying to work with us by requesting an additional travel fee or something along those lines, she decided to flat out cancel working with us and refused to give us back our deposit. So now we lost $1,300 and had to find a new photographer. Edit to add: based on my calculations, the new location would have taken roughly the same amount of time to get to with a small addition of maybe 30 minutes. Also, flights are more accessible to the new location. A new contract could have been discussed but it wasn't. You chose to cancel on us without even discussing what a new contract would entail. Very unprofessional.

Chana was recommended to me by a friend of a friend, who had some stunning wedding photos. Being…read morediligent, I got quotes from several different photographers, painstakingly read all their reviews, and narrowed my search down to two possibilities - Chana and another local photographer, who was slightly less money. I showed my husband (then fiance) both photographers' portfolios and asked him which he liked, and he immediately chose Chana. He said he could tell the photos were just better and didn't need photoshop to look good. I told him the price difference between the two photographers and he said to definitely go with Chana. So, we did! Chana was early for both our engagement shoot and our wedding. (You do not know how amazing this is until you are a nervous bride looking at the clock, wondering if you'll have enough time to get everything done.) She was excellent at getting my husband and I to look natural. We had our dog for both shoots and she got some incredible pictures of him, too! She knows the good spots to go to get awesome pictures. Our most breathtaking photos were at places she suggested. She is also very flexible and willing to work with you - for example, we postponed our engagement shoot two days before and she was totally cool about it, and quick to offer up new dates. Chana also was excellent about keeping in touch just enough, so she wasn't bombarding me, but I also wasn't worried she had forgotten about me. She's also very quick to respond whenever you email her. However, one of the best things about Chana is how fast she works. We had wedding sneak peeks a week just under after our wedding (and a good amount of them, too!), and ALL our wedding pictures two weeks after the wedding. She had our engagement pictures back to us in TWO DAYS. You would never guess she worked that fast with how nice the pictures look. I do not hesitate to recommend Chana to anyone!

Valerie is also very witty and has a style of humor where she's super quirky, but in a good way that makes you feel less shy and self conscious when you're taking photos and more willing to express your true self during the photoshoot. Her rate is also incredibly reasonable and competitive! Besides being an awesome photographer, Valerie is also really great in helping you with bridesmaid tasks during the wedding. This includes helping you with bustling your dress, carrying your gown train around, securing your veil to the back of your head, or pining boutonnières on for your parents/wedding party members. I was especially grateful for her in doing all the boutonnière pinnings as I had no idea how to do that and definitely did not want the added stress of trying to figure it out on the day of. One tip that I suggest when taking your engagement or wedding photos is to have some ideas of poses you want or have a list of the specific sites you want to take pictures at your wedding venue. I regret not doing this as, after the wedding, we realized there were a couple places we wish we had taken more photos at. Additionally, our wedding photos had many similar poses sprinkled throughout and I wish I had researched/looked at more wedding photos in general to get ideas of what other poses we could've done. However, considering how much details are involved in weddings, these are sort of just "cherry on the top" stuff which would've been nice to have but aren't deal breakers. Valerie will definitely not miss any defining wedding moments for you. You can rest assured that she will capture all your wedding highlights without fail!
