You can easily walk to Populo, a nice black-sand beach with a perfectly decent restaurant called Sunset Beach. We stayed in the Apartment suite rooms at Solar: spacious, with a cozy kitchenette, large bathroom with a nice shower, small couch and TV area, and upstairs bedroom with closet and skylight with blackout shades -- very important after our red-eye flight! Jose, the main contact you will have during your stay, is absolutely top notch. He provided us with great maps, ideas for restaurants, beaches, and countless other adventures during pour 5 night stay. we enjoyed dinner at solar Gloria on the second night of our stay (reservations required in advance, but can be made when you arrive) and it was easily the best meal we had on the island. Perfect fish soup paired with amazing local wines and an unforgettable dessert. Solar provides both bath towels and free toiletries -- as well as beach towels to take with you on your day trips. I recommend you rent a car during your stay, as this provides a measure of freedom that is quite a luxury given the easy access to so many beautiful vistas (miradouros) and allows you to change your plans based on the weather. Jose will not disappoint: this is a quite comfortable, rather modern, and also private setting perfect for a couple seeking a cozy home-base on your Azorean adventure.
