When in CDMX: appreciate the architecture. Completed in 1976, this is the last house that Luis Barragan constructed before he died. It has been and remains to be a private residence, so be mindful of that in booking a tour- you wouldn't want someone to come knocking on your door at 9 pm and want to come in and have a look-see. Our tour was led by one of the sons that grew up in the house (no relation to Barragan but family friends whom the house was built for) and was as delightfully informative as it was inclusive; we felt we were in a conversation rather than a lecture. This is a definite must if you find yourself in the area, and it is a short walk from the Anthropology museum and the castle in the park right across the street.

During my CDMX visit in May 2026, I got the opportunity to visit the museum and I really enjoyed the FIFA World Cup themed exhibits. I'm not a soccer fan, but I still found the exhibit educational and genuinely intriguing. One of the most fascinating sections was about the 1971 "Women's World Cup" in Mexico, which was unofficially hosted by the country and drew large crowds despite FIFA not formally recognizing it at the time. The exhibit examines how this moment in sports history was largely erased from mainstream, and simultaneously celebrates the women and fans who made it significant. The show does an excellent job connecting sports, culture, gender, media, and historical memory in a way that feels important ans meaningful even if you know very little about soccer. Also, Museo Jumex has wonderful restrooms.

I really enjoyed walking to the museum and seeing the various fountains and gardens in the park on the way. The museum's architecture and structure is its highlight and if you're into 1980s brutalist style buildings, you will enjoy it. I personally find it quite striking and it blends in nicely and doesn't block or change the lushness of the park around it. It was crafted by Mexican architects Teodoro González de León and Abraham Zabludovsky. The exhibitions tend to be extremely modern and avant garde, featuring Latin American artists from all over the Americas. On my visit, I also saw an exposition that was made in conjunction with the Andy Warhol foundation "Conversation with the Cosmos"; an exhibition of works from late Filipino artist David Medalla. Things tend to be very interactive; there are interactive screens and headphones that you can use that are part of the constantly changing video exhibitions. There was an exhibition going on that also had the possibility of hitting golf balls that were an integral part of the artwork ! So it is a fun museum, and as well some of the art I saw was very political and potentially controversial. I really love the museum shop and they have a fantastic collection of Mexican crafted fragrances, candles and really nice T-shirts and hoodies with cool graphics. Very cutting edge stuff. Definitely worth a trip if you're walking into the park and have an hour to spare. Unfortunately, it's not free. Certainly worth a visit if you have already seen the Museo Jumex and Soumaya.

Much of the artwork was quite crude - both literally (e.g., sculptures were very rough, paintings were more "approximate" and messy) and figuratively (e.g., lots of nudity and sexual content). A few of the artistic pieces were interesting, but most of it was boring or outright repulsive. Your tastes may vary, so feel free to check out Museo Tamayo if it sounds appealing to you. But there are so many better art museums in CDMX - I personally wouldn't waste my time or money here.

There were tons of wonderful murals and other pieces of art that caught my attention, an we literally stayed there almost three hours. What is there to say that hasn't been said already this is a must-see in CDMX. Refresh your memory…read moreon the life of Frida before your visit, and you will feel and relive her art in her home. I've been here twice, and both times I listened to the Frida soundtrack in 1 ear while touring her home. Frida Kahlo was an amazing, tortured, incredible soul. Her story and art live on in this home. So thankful we get to experience it. Arrive early; they are sticklers with times. Backpacks will be checked in. Get your tickets at least 1 week in advance! Enjoy the markets of Coyoacán!

(Review based on 3.5 stars)…read more I am so glad that I had done my research about visiting Museo Frida Kahlo prior to coming because you must purchase your tickets online in advance (one to two weeks at least but it is better to purchase earlier if you are able). You will not be able to purchase the day before or the day of online because those tickets would have already sold out. And just as everyone has said, this museum does not sell any tickets at the door. Please note that you will be purchasing timed tickets and you have a short 15 minute window to arrive or you miss your time slot. But if you are after the 15 minute grace period, staff will just put you in the next time slot. I think I am in the minority here with my overall experience of the Museo Frida Kahlo in which I did not like it as much as I had expected. The home and grounds itself is beautiful and I just as I would have imagined visiting an artist's home, it was beautifully and tastefully decorated/ displayed. But placement of items and information boards were not well spread out and so it would bottleneck and get crowded in places. Also people would get really close to me and rub against me or my small purse, which I really was not a fan of (I really value my personal space). Frida Kahlo did live quite a tragic life and she truly was a resilient woman who could have spiraled downward but instead, she channeled her energy into art. But I will say it was rather disappointing that you do not learn much about her life in this museum and would learn more with your own reading online (from a credible source) or from school. In Frida Kahlo's home, I did love the kitchen the most. I loved how it was decorated with these little tiny cups to create a design on the wall and also to spell out both Frida and Diego's name. A building outside of her home is where there is a display of her clothes was actually what I enjoyed the most of this museum. I also preferred the restrooms on this side over the other restrooms closes to the exit of her home. Our visit was fine and am glad I was able to come. But I don't know if I would necessary consider this a must visit if you are visiting Mexico City. It is nice that your purchase of this museum also includes admission to Anahuacalli Museum, Diego's museum but it focuses on his sculptures and not his murals that you may know him more of. And also those tickets for his museum expire in one year. Lastly, after visiting here, consider walking to Mercado Coyoacán, which is about a 10 minute easy walk if you want to grab lunch and do a little browsing and shopping.
