After visiting Annapolis Royal we thought we might try out one of the local vineyards. We wanted to compare them to what we have back home in the Niagara Region so we did a quick check and found our best bet was Annapolis Highland Vineyards. This was a very different experience then we are used to at home but it was very enjoyable and the wines were quite nice.
We arrived and drove up the long driveway up to the main building. Its a nice little house and there is a large barn right there as well where they make the wine. We were greeted and brought into the house which is the store and tasting room. It is very nice inside the store, they have all their wines displayed and available along the walls and a tasting bar in the corner.
They told us about their vineyard, how they make their wines and how their climate, as apposed to ours in Niagara, affects they types of wines the can make. It was all very interesting and informative.
After that we started the tasting and they took us on a delicious tour through their whites down though there heavy reds. As we tasted each wine we were given a short description of the wine and where its grapes and fruits came from (all local). We were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked them, specifically the fruit wines.
In the end I bought 3 bottles; Chardonnay, Mosaic and Highland Maple. Norm wanted to buy a case but unfortunately there was no room in the car so he settled for 6 bottles including several Highland Rhubarb.
We always love to visit vineyards and this was no exception. I would definitly come back here again. read more
