Amazing quality, lots of variety. I regret not buying more. Not sure if the price is in the expensive side, but it's all worth it.

This store at Madrid's Plaza Mayor has a great assortment of traditional headwear that reflects the various regions of Spain. Surprisingly, despite the location, it was also rather reasonably priced. Even here, I was happy to find the Elosegui brand of headwear, which was founded in 1858 in Tolosa, in the Basque Country (northeastern Spain). Various Basque headwear is pretty hard to find anywhere, especially of good quality (this was made out of wool to keep your head warm in the winter), so I was pleased to find it in Casa Yustas and was able to buy a particular one that is typical of the Basque country's Pyrenees region for myself (boina pirineos, yes, that specific!) - both as a souvenir and as something I can wear often! Customer service was a bit worn because of the gamut of tourists outside the doors, but also friendly once they see you're interested in actually buying something. I came by looking to buy a man's flat-cap. Casa Yustas has a very impressive selection at reasonable prices. Since we're in spring and approaching summer, they had also put all their winter caps on discount. The caps are made in Spain and the workmanship is quite good. I bought two. The lady who showed me around was very helpful and friendly. I'm not sure if she spoke English. The young gentleman who worked the cash register, however, definitely spoke some English. Note that this is a large, modern shop right on the Plaza Mayor. If you're looking for more of an old world shopping experience, you might consider Sombrerería Medrano, just a few blocks away. read more

The problem with my travels to Spain is that I often leave the States with an almost-empty suitcase but on my return journey, will be faced with an excessive overweight bag penalty. Stores like Casa Yustas are responsible for this turn of events (and in a good way). Casa Yustas is an army/navy store and sells all sorts of second-hand medallions and medals from the Spanish military and weaponry, as well as some articles of clothing, hats, and porcelain figurines. The shop is located along the bustling Plaza Mayor and has been open for business since 1894. Although I could not afford some of the aforementioned items, I did make a few purchases from the display case that contains small flags of just about every municipality, community, and province in Spain. Not only was the sight of hundreds of flags in the case impressive to behold, but it really gave me perspective on the unique cultural identities of each region of Spain and the symbolism of what is included on the flags. I did get a small flag with the coat of arms of Pontevedra, as that is where I am living this summer and thought it would be a neat way to decorate this year's travel journal. I also purchased a patch of the Spanish national flag, which I affixed to the sleeve of a military-style jacket. I'm certain that those of us who are not so creative can find gifts here that are not only unique, but speak to the rich history and culture of Spain. read more

Last September I was in Madrid and had a customer order hat made for my husband. Casa Yustas did a beautiful job on the hat and mailed it to Indiana. No surprises, just a well made hat that my husband has been hunting for for many years. read more
