What an awesome campus! This is the third time I've had the opportunity to visit the campus in the past few weeks. I have walked around the campus, attended concerts on campus, visited the student union area, enjoyed several walking trails and other outdoor areas and there's so much more to explore that I have yet to reach! Museums, lecture series and special guest, sporting events, concerts and more! Everyone I have met has been friendly and welcoming. The university is very well maintained, clean and well kept. All of the events that I have attended have been very reasonably priced for admission and or access. And I have felt very safe at every location I have visited on campus. I would encourage you to take the opportunity to visit and enjoy the world class opportunities provided to the community in community outreach and cooperative opportunities afforded by the university to the community and its visitors. read more

On Thursday, October 2, 2025, at approximately 7:30 PM, I having an advanced degree and being a member of the public, entered the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) Kevin Smith Library seeking to utilize a computer designated for public access, as my personal laptop had failed. I was fully aware that the posted and advertised closing time was 8:00 PM. ​I approached the customer service desk, my identification in hand, and was met by a young woman of African-American descent, whom I believe is a CWRU student employee. I explained my immediate need for approximately ten minutes of public computer access, confirming I would be finished well in advance of the 8:00 PM closure. ​While the first employee was accommodating, a second employee--a young Caucasian female wearing glasses, who had entered just ahead of me--interjected herself into the conversation. This second employee immediately adopted a dismissive and disrespectful tone toward both her colleague and me. She contradicted her colleague's acknowledgment of the 8:00 PM closing, stating emphatically that once a security officer arrived, I would have to vacate the premises regardless of the hour. Her objection to my presence was palpable, suggesting disparate treatment and a possible racial animus. This became further evident when, in a belittling tone, she then reprimanded her African-American colleague for being too helpful in facilitating my access, implying she was "moving too fast." ​After receiving the necessary login credentials, which required a brief follow-up regarding capitalization, I successfully logged into a public computer about 7:37 PM within the Freedman Center room. I had been utilizing the computer for approximately three minutes when a CWRU security officer entered the room. I had previously observed this officer being directed by the second (Caucasian) employee, confirming my suspicion that my ejection was being actively sought. ​The security officer immediately initiated an ID check, demanding that all patrons "show your Case student ID card." I quickly presented my driver's license, stating clearly that I was a member of the public, not a student. At approximately 7:40 PM--a full twenty minutes before the published closing time--the security officer, in a highly disrespectful tone, ordered me to "leave," asserting that she was "securing the building NOW." ​I respectfully noted that I had been advised by staff that the library closed at 8:00 PM, a time posted both online and on the door. The security officer simply repeated her command for me to leave. This action constituted an unwarranted denial of access and an unjust ejection from a public accommodation based on a dubious, pre-closing policy. ​Before exiting, I documented the parties involved. I obtained the first name of the CWRU security officer and the name of the Caucasian employee, who provided it with a discernible smirk. I immediately contacted the CWRU Security/Police Department and provided a detailed, factual summary of this incident to a dispatcher. I was advised that to file a formal complaint regarding this apparent violation of my rights and evidence of racial bias, I must return in person for an interview to be recorded via body camera. I am an African-American Black male over the age of 40 years. ​My attire at the time of the incident was professional and appropriate for a technical environment. I was wearing a flannel shirt, a baseball cap, trousers, and shoes approved for use in a laboratory setting. ​This outfit provided no reasonable basis for the security officer or staff to deny me access or treat me differently from other patrons. My clothing was neither disruptive nor violative of any common public decency standard. ​ The sequence of events documented herein--beginning with the unusual contradiction of the posted library closing policy, the overtly dismissive and antagonistic behavior of the Caucasian employee, and culminating in my unwarranted ejection by CWRU security at 7:40 PM--strongly suggests I was subjected to disparate treatment and a denial of public service based on racial bias. ​My interaction with the two customer service employees illustrates a stark contrast: helpful accommodation from the African-American student employee versus active hostility from the Caucasian employee. The immediate deployment of security to enforce an early, selective closure twenty minutes before the posted time, apparently at the behest of the hostile employee, functioned as an improper pretext to deny me the basic public access I was entitled to. ​I intend to pursue a formal complaint with the CWRU Police/Security Department and reserve all rights to explore further remedies regarding this clear pattern of unprofessional conduct and discrimination. read more

This time around, the smoothie machine WAS working at the time I ordered my smoothie. 6 dollars and 25 cents! Can you believe that? Nevertheless, I ordered a smoothie that started being created, just for the machine to stop and display an out of order code. I paid for this smoothie and didn't receive it. I went to three separate desks to try to get a refund, just for them to tell me I must go ACROSS THE STREET. I do not have time for this after already spending my money and trying to get a refund for 10 minutes straight. This is an outrage. Unbelievable... read more

Had a great time, got the girl, got the degree, got this bag, 10/10 would recommend. There was a lot of great oppurtinites and the professors were mostly very helpful and informative. Sometimes they are too smart to teach and assume everyone is as smart as them but if you just keep working on things and immerse yourself than it works out. read more

One of the best open houses I attended for Undergraduate degree with my son who is a Senior. Beautiful campus, great programs, 4 big hospitals for students in the medical program. I felt very happy coming from Chicago to tour only a 5hour drive, not bad at all. Hopefully, my kid enrolls here! read more

I have driven past Case Western a few times (maybe 3 times before) when I was in the University Village neighbourhood. It is a beautiful campus and I wouldn't expect anything less from a private school. I came to the Case Western Law School library 3 weeks ago (on February 10, 2018) to do some work. The library has 3 floors and there is ample room to study, read, or use your laptop. I noticed computer labs inside but since I am not a student there, I don't know if guests can access the computers. I didn't need to use the computers when I came so I did not ask about them. A cool feature here is that on the 3rd floor, there are sofa type chairs that has a kind-of mini desk attached to it that lets you place you laptop on top. The chair almost looks like a loveseat so I assume that it will be comfortable. I will have to take a photo of it next time I'm there so you can see what I mean. Another neat feature is not only are there vending machines in the lobby for snacks and drinks, but there is a very small Starbucks station inside the library where you can make your own coffee and self pay. I don't drink coffee thought but I got excited when I saw it because I thought that there might have been a tea option too...haha. Oh well. I had no problem with parking because I noticed a parking lot next to the library. It costs $2 an hour I think and I was here on a Saturday afternoon so there were many spots open. Parking here in general may be a problem because it is street parking and if you come into the library during the week, students will probably have all the parking spots taken (this is just a guess). Overall, I love the Case Western Reserve law school library and law building. I will definitely be back. read more

Pros: I met my best friends attending this university. Very good sports programs. Incredible facilities gyms, housing, library, research areas, labs, student centers, fields, etc. Location near uptown and little Italy. Shuttle services to get across campus. Good funding for everything. Lots and awesome concerts. They generally give good scholarships, which makes my first con a little less. Cons: expensive university to attend! Parking is crazy expensive and limited. Expect to get ticketed in the area at least once. Right by the hospital so you hear sirens all the time. Anything right beyond the edge of campus is not safe areas. I had an extremely bad experience with student services my senior year which only enforced that they do not care about students as individuals. They won't do anything about assaults on campus. read more

Frank Gehry...oh how I love thee...designs anyway. If you are a Frank Gehry or architecture nerd, stop by. Named after Peter B. Lewis, chief executive and president of Progressive Insurance, Frank Gehry's building in the Case Western Reserve campus is a $62 million building (of which Mr. Lewis gave $37 million) with 152,000 square feet of space. Peter B. Lewis and Frank Gehry have had a long professional and personal career dating back to Lewis' commissioning Gehry to design his home, which was never built. The long design process for the unbuilt home is credited with having helped many of the design advances that would lead to Gehry's design of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Like in Bilbao, here Gehry makes use of the undulating forms that have now become his signature. read more

We had a volleyball tournament at CWRU this weekend and the recreation facility was very nice. The bathrooms were clean and they had a snack bar selling food to those who needed it. They also sold T-shirts for the volleyball tournament, which was a nice touch. The two gyms can accommodate seven volleyball courts, but only five were in use. The facility had plenty of bathrooms and drinking fountains and places to camp out. Also included was free WiFi. There was a huge windmill outside spinning quickly due to the strong winds. It's good to see electricy being produced at very little cost and with minor impact on the environment. This was my first close up visit to CWRU and it seems like a wonderful school. read more

Hard to give a genuine review as I haven't attended this university as a student. My son and I drove up here to tour this campus and we were impressed. The faculty were very helpful and informative in answering any questions. Unfortunately while we're here during our tour, it was an absolute downpour which I believe affected how our tour turned out. The grounds and the buildings were immaculate and beautiful. There was a lot of art throughout what we had seen of the campus. It is located just a short bus ride from downtown and convenient to so many great attractions like the museums and zoo. read more

Attended a networking event at one of their buildings, and had a good time. Parking was extremely difficult in the evening during the week. Our event had parking reimbursement in a garage, but I spent 15 minutes driving around the block trying to find it! That was on the event for not being more specific, but there was no signage at all for parking, except for the lots that specified that it was for certain people only. I found myself walking around with two other guests after parking trying to find the building, and a college student took pity on us and helped us to find where we were going, even taking us through a building to avoid the cold snowy weather. The venue was very nice, and seemed to be updated on the inside, despite being an older building. The security guard helped validate my parking ticket, and was happy to answer my questions on how to find my way back! read more

A great institution in the heart of Cleveland's growing University Circle neighborhood. I wish the university had as much to offer when I was there! Free parking at the bookstore (30 mins) along with electric car charging stations, and free wifi everywhere. read more

I came back to visit and they built housing lining the football field! If it were a division 1 school with great football those would be, maybe, prime seats, but no, it's a division 3 school which doesn't have the best football record either. So bad idea. But I got a good education/had fun, so 3 stars. read more

Top school. Nice Campus and a city feel. Your close to downtown and everything. CLE has a lot to offer.

I'm starting my second year this fall and looking forward to going back. The new student housing here is great, and so far I have enjoyed all of my professors. The course load feels heavy and it's not an easy school, but I do feel like I am learning a lot and that all of the students around me are well motivated. The library here is huge and a great place to study, and the new buildings in Uptown really make it feel like this neighborhood is growing. read more

I took a summer class here and though it was a very nice campus and well kept up. My Dad got his Master's here and he says they have a great School of Business. I believe it's pretty hard to get into Case. It is not a huge school but the programs it does offer are very well known around the Country. read more

Interesting campus- very well maintained with lots of sculptures. I really liked Peter B. Lewis, designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry. It is wrapped in overlapping metal plates and odd ribbon like shapes that are very organic. I liked it a lot- worth a visit for this alone. All the arts buildings nearby are nice too- great for a walk around. read more

I am one who brushes my teeth too much and have good hygienic principles but due to my own decision making I refused to take days off from work or burn personal business days to see a dentist and at that time I had dental insurance. Lack of proper dental care and oversight finally caught up with my teeth. I had an older crown which broke at the gumline and I no longer had dental insurance. Unable to afford the prevailing rates in my market I sought out the services and help at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. It was a wise decision. I now have a truly healthy mouth; I can now chew food properly with dental implants that are fully functional as teeth and I have a bright and white smile. It is a slow process, but I received the very best care and finished product. My dental procedures were closely monitored and perfected. I was paired with a young student doctor who will become Dr. Erik Johnson, D.M.D. on May 18, 2014. His instructor, Dr. Schneider reviewed and approved all procedures step by step. I cannot state all the good and positive opinions I have for the dental school or staff. I received the upmost respect and text book perfect treatment plan. Whatever your dental needs I highly recommend Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. It is prepay and they do accept dental insurance with direct reimbursement. read more

Campus review only. The Princeton Review rated CWRU one of the ten ugliest campuses in the country. I would not go that far as it has some redeeming features. However, the campus really does not work and contains many buildings that have that "land grant college look." It is near the museum district which is nice. Cleveland does not have a good reputation, but like any city of any size, you can always find things to do there. CWRU has a pretty strong academic reputation. read more
