I had to continually get him to correct sub-par work which he told me was no problem. Later, I found out that he said my expectations were too high. He continually took side jobs (that were not already booked) that took him away from my job for days at a time. He also decided to move into a rent-to-own property while doing my job and was continually gone so he could work on that property. Then there were issues with childcare and a sewage problem, I believe it was, and I can't even remember the other excuses I was given. By the way, when we first started, he was "ready to work" and swore to me that they would work weekends and long hours and had been known to even sleep in the truck or house when they had long nights so they could be up early to work the next morning to make sure the dealine was met. None of that was true and unsurprisingly, he failed to meet the established deadline. He was so far behind, that my dad and I decided to tackle the fireplace remodel ourselves and would meet at the house around 7AM. Craig's team didn't arrive until between 8:30 and 10:30 each day and they were gone some days by 11:30. It was really ridiculous. I tried to be understanding but still expressed my concern about the deadline which is seemed confident he could still meet. Despite all of this, he wanted me to give him 3/4 of the final payment before all of the work was complete. I told him I wasn't comfortable with that so he packed his tools and quit without ever saying a word to me then never responded to my texts or phone calls asking what was going on. This is completely unprofessional by anyone's standards and it's my best guess that he wanted the last payment so he could quit WITH MORE MONEY IN HIS POCKET. I learned my lesson and hired a LICENSED contractor to correct his work and finish the job to my standard. The licensed contractor had no problem completing the work - work that Craig said was impossible to do like install two barn doors - and even went over everything with me to make sure I was happy before arranging for final payment. There is no way I would hire "The Handyman of Live Oak", Craig Hurst, for any work ever and would never recommend him. I cannot caution homeowners enough!

They showed up right on time the next day and gave me an estimate. Their prices were better than the corporate bids we received and they started work the same day. They were helpful picking out the correct replacement items and even picked up our order from Lowe's. I already have more projects lined up with them.
