We had a 10x11 Trex deck with stairs going from the deck to the ground floor, a cable railing…read moresystem, and a new concrete pad poured. When we met with Hayden we were very specific about what we wanted. We provided a picture of the railing system we wanted, and discussed in detail that the deck was 30 years old, pointing out the rusted support brackets, and asked how he would support the roof line that was supported by a corner support beam when he removed the deck. Hayden was referred to us, and after checking his license online, we felt comfortable using him. We were provided with an estimate that read the deck was to be replaced with Trex, a cable railing system, and new brackets would be installed. The cost of the replacement was $18,700. On our first visit back to Cannon Beach, we were very surprised that Hayden had replaced the decking but had not touched the support post, or rusty brackets. We asked him why he hadn't replaced the post and he said they were still in good condition. It was at this point we became a little concerned. Not only had the foundation of the deck not been touched, but the metal railing post were installed directly into the Trex decking, without any other support. The stainless steel cable running through the post had no grommets, as we had shown him in the picture we wanted, and one of the cables had a kink in it, which would be impossible to stretch out. We let Hayden know that we were concerned with the quality of the work, and he informed us he was working on the structure of the deck and it would be done properly. We had never seen a deck replacement that didn't start from the ground up, so our radar was on high alert. We were most concerned with the structural integrity of the deck, and had to tell Hayden installing the railing supports into nothing but the Trex would not give any strength to the railing. It would not take much weight leaning against the railing to cause it to dislodge. Even as we were stepping on the Trex deck, we could feel the boards flexing due to lack of support. Long and short of it is Hayden referred to the contract and even though it layed out replacing the deck with Trex, he did not detail that replacing the 30 year old support posts was included ...this was his out for not replacing the foundation of the deck. We rated the business 2 star because the contractor that poured the concrete did an outstanding job. Had we been rating Mainline Carpentry only, then we would give him a 1 star. We have no confidence in the structural integtity of our deck.

I highly recommend Hayden Johnson Construction. Work is top notch and done right! The last thing…read moreyou want is a contractor cutting corners and doing things the wrong way. Hayden Johnson Construction is licensed and bonded, that alone gave me peace of mind, but then when I saw his work, I was completely satisfied. I will definitely be dialing him up on my next project!

We've…read morebought concrete from A1 Ready Mix in Warrenton, OR and I thought we had an account with them so I didn't pay the driver when he asked how I wanted to do the billing. I thought for sure we had an account. The entire invoice amount was $666, and this was the amount I was obligated to pay. But then I got a call from their office person because we apparently don't have an account (I know we did). So I paid the balance on the spot with my card, only she decided to charge my card an extra $85. When I confronted her about the receipt I was holding that the driver gave me to pay for $666 (this is what I was supposed to pay), she said it was for the time it took the driver to pour the concrete. It was clear as a bell-you could hear it in her voice-that she had decided at the moment to overbill me. When you order concrete you pay for the concrete, the delivery charge, a fuel surcharge-and I had to pay for it being a short load of less than 3 yards of concrete. But they don't tack on after the fact, or after the receipt has already been given to you, and additional fee for unloading the concrete. The time it takes to offload the concrete is already factored in. This is my first ever review of a company. I felt compelled to write this review as an act to simply hold this company accountable and to let people know what to watch out for. I will not be buying anymore concrete from these people.
