While the surgery itself appears to have gone well and Cali is doing fine, our experience surrounding her care and the follow-up afterward was deeply disappointing. When checking in, we were specifically asked whether Cali needed any vaccines. We clearly said no. The front desk staff even told us that her records indicated she did not need a rabies vaccine, as she had received her final rabies vaccination just three weeks earlier. When we picked Cali up, we were shocked to learn that she had been given another rabies vaccine anyway and that we had been charged for it. Mistakes can happen, but what has been most frustrating is what happened afterward. We asked to speak with a manager before leaving and were told none was available. Over the following week, we called four separate times and spoke with two receptionists, Emily and Beta, requesting a call from Crystal or Barbara. Despite being assured our concerns would be passed along, no one has ever returned our calls. ASPCA did offer us a credit for the cost of the unnecessary vaccine-$30, but we respectfully requested a reimbursement instead. To date, we have received neither a reimbursement nor any communication from management. We would have appreciated a simple phone call, an acknowledgment of the mistake, and a reasonable effort to resolve the issue.

Although run by Catholic nuns, this organization welcomes those of all faiths and makes it easy for them to practice their own beliefs freely. Most nursing homes smell bad. There I said it. But I will vouch that this location is so clean and has no hint that is even a nursing home. If you are looking for a place to volunteer, I would highly recommend lending your time here. The volunteer coordinator is super nice and will find a volunteer duty that can fit anyone's needs. I bring my dog in for visits. They need everyone from people to serve food, to working in the nail salon, to just visiting with the residents. Perhaps you just want to give some money as your time is more valuable? GIVE HERE. I promise you that every dollar and/or donation you give is used properly. There is no mismanagement of funds. I am very happy to have found such a wonderful organization to lend my time to. There were 42 of us all volunteering to create and pack boxes of assorted canned/packaged food for 1.5 hours, followed by a tour of the facility. The place is HUGE and feeds 1 million people annually and some 60 million meals. While I didn't stick around for the tour, I will volunteer again. It was a phenomenal and rewarding experience knowing we were preparing food to feed the food-insecure throughout the DMV.
