If you are forced to deal with this company for your real estate closing, be prepared for problems…read morewith follow-up, and good luck. We've had two unfortunate post-closing experiences with Chicago Title's Rivertown Parkway office. The first was a home sale, after which they took several days to deposit our sale proceeds. We ended up having to call our realtor to run interference and demand that someone from CT physically take a check over to our bank for deposit. (There is no excuse for such a delay in these days of electronic funds transfer.) Our more recent experience in buying a home resulted in the MI homestead exemption paperwork not getting properly filed. My first attempt to follow-up, a call to the closing agent at CT, resulted in an unanswered voicemail. The second, a call to the regional manager, resulted in her (1) blaming the township for not filing the form properly, (2) saying it was ultimately our responsibility to make sure it gets done, even though we paid CT document fees at closing. (I have to add that she also incorrectly informed me that we had closed at a different office on Kenmoor, where we've never been.) The icing on the cake was her sending me a copy of a waiver they have you sign at closing, saying they aren't responsible if the paperwork isn't filed properly. FYI Chicago Title: it's not okay to be rude just because you do it in a chipper voice (that's classic passive-agressive), and it's never ok to pass the buck. Update: A couple of days after posting this review, we finally received our title insurance policy in the mail from this company -- seven months after closing. It's tempting to reprint the incomprehensible email I received from the regional manager in response to my inquiry about this, but I doubt anyone there cares. The cherry on top of the icing on the cake was that CT even misdirected this latest mailing; sent to wrong city and zip code. Nice job, guys.

Beware of Chicago Title Insurance Co. The employees were unprofessional and failed miserably to…read moreproperly do their job. The job of a title company is to make sure the title for the property is legitimate, and they failed to do just that. In the process of buying our home this company failed us over and over again. On the day of our closing while waiting for the sellers to sign first, Chicago Title informed us they had made a critical error and discovered the sellers name was not on the title and they did not have permission to sell the house. They apologized and told us how "embarrassed" they were to make such a foolish mistake. They had no explanation as to how we had gotten that far in our closing process before they caught this error. We left our closing with no home and no date of when we might be able to actually close. Chicago Title said multiple people should have reviewed those documents and yet each and every person failed to catch the obvious mistake and brought us to closing only to let us down. This error made by Chicago Title cost us greatly since we had to take time off from work, pay to hold our interest rates, and extend our rent among other things. This error cost us much time in planning and preparing to move and a great deal of stress. When we confronted Chicago Title asking for compensation for the great deal of trouble they caused, they refused to right their wrong. They reiterated they were sorry and passed off the issue saying their employees need more training. Our realtor made several attempts to communicate with Chicago Title before and after this incident and often learned they did not open or properly read emails causing further problems. For example, the well and septic on the home we were purchasing did not pass inspection and this information was sent to Mallery at Chicago Title who failed to open and read this properly, yet she forwarded this on to the realtors saying it had passed. It was our realtor who actually read the inspection and informed Chicago Title of their mistake. Their employee, Mallery, failed to get information correct multiple times, causing misinformation and scheduling errors. Our realtor reached out to manager Missy Backe only to get another apology, but nothing else. At closing our realtor confronted Escrow manager Sheri Gajeski and after a great deal of effort only managed to receive an extra $100 for our trouble, which didn't come close to covering the expenses we acquired from their mistakes. I would never recommend this company as they did a awful job and want to warn others so they do not have to endure what we experienced.
