Disgusting. That is the word best to describe the Casino Aztar Hotel. I stayed here with a group in town for business, and was horrified by the photos online, hoping the marketing director just hadn't updated them since 1985. It turns out, those were actually flattering photos. The rooms are just gross. I can't begin to explain how many stains of God-knows-what were all over the carpet. The bedspreads - yes bedspreads, not comforters - were seriously old, and the blanket on the bed had seen better days. The sheets thankfully were clean, but I wouldn't touch anything else. The shower head is circa 1985 and felt like a sand blaster, only to be followed up with nearly see-through sandpaper like towels. On the plus side, I did feel exfoliated. Seriously, the lobby and restaurant are dated, but the rooms are truly disgusting, and I will never, ever consider staying there again. read more

So. I had a convention to go to in Evansville. Booked at the Tropicana, whose website proclaimed it to be the premier resort in Indiana. The hotel... Acceptable. This casino though... Well... First, the smell. Body odor, cigarettes, river. It was bad. Real bad. Baaaad. The clientele consisted of the most depressing, broken, and pitiable human beings ever brought together by the draw of a tiny jackpot on the penny slots there has ever been on riverboat. Honestly. Three dollars was all I could give to the slots before I had to leave. Now, the good. When you walk from the land to the entrance of said riverboat, the walls are lined with photographs of past "Big Winners" from the casino complete with their names and their prize totals. 99% of these people looked like they smelled like body odor, cigarettes, and river. At first glance the casino/bar/karaoke spot is charming-- but once you go up to your over $100 room and see the outdated furniture, television and heating unit-- the place doesn't seem as fun. When we awoke the next morning the noise we heard was deafening. I mean it was ear piercing drilling and banging. When I called down to the front desk they giggled and said they were renovating, "Didn't someone tell you when you checked-in?" Um no-- and shouldn't someone actually tell me when I booked the hotel? It was awful. We ran out of there at 8am with blaring headaches. When we checked out I wanted her to ask me how my stay was-- just so I could say something caddy or get a last line in-- but unfortunately we weren't asked. So we just took off and ate breakfast out of town. I would definitely pass through this place for novelty sake-- but don't actually pay to stay here. read more

If you ever wondered where all the people that still rock mullets and acid washed jeans hang out, wonder no more. It's the Casino Aztar in Evansville, Indiana. Well, it's actually a tie between the 80's trailer park look and the girls in stilettos and mini skirts pretending they're in a Vegas casino. It all makes for pretty stellar people watching. The boat has 3 levels, all of which are outdated, grimy, and seemingly a giant mecca for the downtrodden. You can just see the SS and disability checks disappearing into the slot machines. It's actually kind of sad. Smoking is allowed on 2 of the floors and OMG is it smokey! I probably "smoked" the equivalent of 3 packs of cigarettes simply due to inhaling second hand smoke. It's awful. Seeing as how this IS a riverboat Casino in Indiana and NOT Vegas, I wasn't really expecting this to be a 5 star experience. However, I did expect for there to be more than 1 cocktail waitress for each floor and for the drinks to be stronger. You do want me to get drunk and waste my money in your casino, don't you?? Casino Aztar gave us an excuse for a little road trip and a few laughs, but I don't think we will be coming back. read more

This place is a pit. If you want to see why people vote down casino issues on election day, this place is exhibit #1 for skid row gambling--at least in my opinion. The hotel is old and tired too. I was there on a Wednesday night and it was pathetic. But, if you like video gambling and smoking, then it might be for you. read more

Games: Sometimes its hard to find low limit tables. They say they offer them, but on busy times demand far exceeds supply Bar: You have to pay for your drinks at this casino, and they're priced to make a nice profit. Food: The offerings on the boat are awful and overpriced. Nothing special here. Parking: The parking garage has small spaces that fail to accommodate the large trucks driven by most Southern Indiana folks. The "middle" lane of the garage is tight. At least its free. Decor: Outdated. Outdated. Outdated. Use some of the profits from the bad odds games to refresh the decor. Smoking: Right now they're the only gig in Evansville that allows smoking because the government doesn't want to lose out on gaming revenue. The result is a nasty smokehouse. They have a non-smoking area, but the selection of games is a joke. Comps: Worst ever. They are not serious about rewarding their customers since their nearest competitor is all the way down in French Lick. Entertainment: Here and there a band from yesteryear plays. Nothing impressive. Service: There are some good dealers and bartenders, but overall, nothing impressive. Not long ago we came with an adult friend who lives in Europe. They refused to let her in because they wouldn't accept her driver's license from Belgium. She is over 21 and had a valid ID. They didn't care. Since they wouldn't let her in despite having valid ID showing she was an adult our whole party left. Bottom Line: This place is only in business because its the only casino within a 1 hour drive of Evansville. It feeds on the gambling addicts, not tourists and weekend vacationers. If you want to gamble go to Las Vegas where you'll have a modern facility, free drinks, good service, and you won't get hassled by overzealous security trying to kick out adult patrons because they didn't have their ID of choice (see above story). I'd recommend going to Las Vegas or hitting up French Lick. read more

'The Boat' as it's locally known, gets three stars from me only because in the last couple of years they have FINALLY come into the current century and made one of the floors non-smoking. The other floors are your typical cloud of smoke. My favorite slot machine is gone now :( but when I lived in Evansville a couple of years ago, it was a fun place to go and kill a few hours. But by no means is this a nice casino. I've never stayed at the hotel, but have eaten at the restaurants a couple of times. They are decent but nothing to rave about. Not a lot of table games going on at a given moment. Just your typical blue-hairs smoking like chimneys and playing the Wheel of Fortune machines. If you're bored, check it out. Don't expect much, and you can have a decent time here for a couple of hours. read more

This joint gets only 3 stars because the riverboat doesnt leave the dock anymore. I've been to a few casinos and i get the same feeling at all of them. Free alch and smoke all around. It has a lot going on for it as well though in the surrounding area if you're not into gambling and what not. They have food galore and just about nightly entertainment with live bands and what not of the region. It gets really lively on the weekends, for as much as it can in this southern city. There are two hotels as well attached that are a nice addition to the downtown as well, one of which is the hotel Merigot. It is a bit of boutique and 'cosmopolitan flare.' read more

Every part of the Aztar property is a dump, including the restaurants, the casino and the hotel. The majority of the staff are extremely rude and stand-offish. Good luck to anyone wanting a drink in the casino-the lines at the bar are usually 20 people deep on the weekends, and the cocktail waitresses are almost non-existent. They never have enough table games open, especially the craps tables, so if you want to actually gamble you're stuck playing the two-cent slot machines. Take my advice and spend your money elsewhere! read more

This is the weirdest casino I've ever been to. Nevermind the fact that I think the IN law where a casino with tables has to be on a boat is the weirdest thing I have ever heard, but at least make it feel less like a boat. I felt like I was boarding a ferry to take me to Mackinac Island, and maybe it was in my mind but I felt instantly seasick. I was told the boat doesn't actually move anymore, but it is still floating in water! After I forgot about being on a boat, I surveyed the 3 floors they had to offer. It was pretty small, but it wasn't too crowded and had a decent amount of space for me to get my gambling on. There were two small bars and a smoke free area. Wouldn't rush back here and compared to the Horseshoe casino it looks plain silly. read more

This boat is poorly managed, bleak, and misery is in the air. A complete dive has gone further downhill under the new management. The resteraunts are as good as any truckstop. Hokey entertainment is geared to the drunks. A haven for first timers and retirees looking to loose their SS check money (they bus them in). If you should happen to win anything, LEAVE. Could be a gem if they had a plan and competent management. Unfortunately they only want obsesive compulsives in order to get their cut. read more

Its a casino. Not really a big deal to me. I lost about 20 dollars playing roulette, maybe 5 dollars playing some game. Nice view of the river. Decent restaurants inside. Ive only been to one other casino, somewhere out in Missouri so I dont have much of a point of reference. read more

If you're the gambling type this, obviously, is for you. I like the freedom to come and go as I please from the boat to the restaurant and lounge areas. I love that they made a non-smoking level but it's so smokey that it barely makes a difference and you have to walk through the smoking area to get to the non-smoking. Drinks are typically average in price but smaller than average in size. read more
