LOTS. OF. WHISKEY/WHISKY. We came here on a Saturday night and it was packed. We managed to find a seat at the end of the bar and were blown away by their whiskey/whisky list. We had a dram of our very first Pappy and Laphroig 25, and they both did not disappoint. The bartender was friendly and very helpful, too. I'd definitely come back here.

This place is fantastic! I visited on the advice of my mother on a recent visit to Madison. It's a quiet, dark oasis amid the hubbub that State Street can be. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. The liquor menu is seriously impressive, with a daunting selection of many spites, but particularly bourbons. You can sample anything on tap before buying a full drink. They do flights and individual pours or bourbons. They also offer interesting cocktails. If you're an aficionado, you should definitely go to Cask & Ale. You will be glad you did.

The VanDyke ~ four roses bourbon, st germaine liquor, lemon juice, ginger simple syrup, bitters. A bit sweet, but tasty af.

Great spot for drinks! You're looking at 9 dolla cocktails and kinda pricey yet quite the selection of beers on tap. Really dug the ambiance at this bar... think clean, modern, trendy lounge with good music (90s west coast rap sh*t, the good stuff, to current radio jams). No snobby peeps, but mostly a pretty young and trendy crowd for sure. I dig. I liked that it wasn't overly crowded at all for a Saturday night and music wasn't too loud that you couldn't have a conversation with the person next to you. Anyways, in addition to cocktails n beers, they do have quite the whiskey selection. Me likely. Only hung out for a round here, but would definitely stop by again if I were in Madison. Only suggestion for this spot would be they should have a printed menus to read whats on draft. TV screens weren't really doing it for me as the color & font were hard to read even from the bar. 'Til next time, cheers! 182/365

What a place! Not a ton of seating, but I can't stop staring at the wall. The drinks are very strong and and seem very reasonable for price.

A trendy, hipster cocktail bar near the Capitol. They have an awesome craft beer selection, a creative cocktail list and classic cocktails on draft. I had the VanDyke which is Four Roses bourbon and Saint Germaine with lemon juice (on draft). Refreshing and boozy. Romantic mood lighting which would be great for a first date except it gets really loud when it's busy. So be ready to get REAL close so you can hear each other.

Wow, I had no idea this place existed until a friend mentioned it. Madison is such a great place…read morefor a rooftop experience given that our buildings are generally lower than the Capitol and it is a lovely focal point. Alas, we have so few, and I'm so excited this concept opened! I came on a fall/winter evening, but definitely would love to come back in sunny outdoor weather. On the top floor of the Moxy hotel, Atico serves up a really lovely array of Mexican and Mexican-themed foods. They've got some really elevated entree options, but also have a host of street tacos. While their menu is a bit pricey (some were actually outrageous), the happy hour specials they had listed on the table were a great deal -- definitely would love to come back here for happy hour. I ordered 2 al pastor street tacos and a carne asada street taco. They're nicely sized and are decently full with meat. Onion and cilantro tops them off just like a street taco should be. I thought they were pretty tasty. I didn't love that the pineapple in the al pastor was chopped on top and was served cold (the pineapple, not the meat), but I still ate every ounce of both my tacos, so take my complaint with a grain of salt. My margarita was also good, I appreciated that they were willing to make it "up" instead of "on the rocks." Our server was very accommodating and able to answer questions. Overall, I don't know that the food is worth the price, but it would definitely be worth it on a rare occasion to enjoy the rooftop ambiance. The happy hour also solves for this conundrum. So, I'd certainly like to be back to Atico.

I haven't had any of their food but the drinks are always great here. They have an extensive menu. The space inside is beautiful and I love the bright fun colors! I would love to try their food before a show at the Sylvee or Breese Stevens as it's located in a prime spot on east wash.

Our hostess and server were pleasant. The cheese curds, burgers and fries were delicious. My New York strip, however, was just OK; tough and not very flavorful. We were a little disappointed in the wait because there were some empty tables around, which showed that Merchant was not extremely slammed, but we wanted to give benefit of the doubt. Fried Cheese Curds tasted alright. We probably got the unlucky batch though, because halfway through eating them, we had dime-sized cheese curds. It certainly didn't feel like we got a full appetizer size of cheese curds because of this. I think typically the smaller cheese curds are at the end of the dish, but here it felt like we had it for 50% of the dish. The Merchant Burger was alright, but nothing to wow my senses. The black pepper aioli was delicious though, but it felt like that was what was saving the burger. Not pictured was the Floral G&T drink, which tasted delicious. Overall: giving this place 3 stars because it wasn't amazing, but it was OK. The interior is beautiful though, but food and service were below our expectations.
