Stopped here on a whim on a rainy night. The haze of the cigars offered a reprieve by transporting us to another era of underground speakeasy and the feel sweet mahogany. The bar is beautifully back dropped against an exposed brick wall. They had an impressive list of spirits and cocktails. It was challenging to order a French Martini though. They didn't have Chambord and instead the helpful bartender offered to make one using a raspberry liquor. It didn't come out as tasty as a true French martini but it was garnished very beautifully with lemon peel, and served in a delightful martini glass. A true cigar snob would find this sacrilegious anyways to drink a martini with a hearty, fine Nicaraguan cigar. A pour of their 12 year aged Macallan will set you back a cool $15 but well worth it just for the hip factor. The Lulu's Birthday made with elderflower liqueur, along with notes pear was refreshing and offered a transformative floral note on the tongue. I have to give a shout-out to our bartender who was very helpful and even brought our ice waters, unprompted. My only real complaint would be the couches. If they just added some actual bolstered, couches, it would truly set off that Lounge-y feel. read more

This was an unexpected gem! We were looking for a place to smoke cigars and drink bourbon and we found it. The atmosphere is very casual and very cigar bar-ish. It reminded us of a place we visited in Scotland a couple of years ago and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The reason for the four-star, it was hot inside. I am not sure if the air conditioner was not working but it made it a bit uncomfortable. They have a nice selection of bourbons and whiskeys and scotches which go perfectly with a nice cigar. Ok I know it's a cigar bar and I don't smoke cigars but it's a really cool place for drinks if your in the square. This place is very cool with exposed brick walls leading up to the decorative old school tin ceiling. There is a cool comfy seating area around the fire place that would be awesome on a winter day. There is a nice out door seating area in the front if you want to chill on a nice day. There is plenty of comfy leather chairs with sturdy tables to hold the heavy ash trays. The beverage selection is top notch hands down with with craft beers and good liquor. Some Wana be chump came in and ordered a light beer and he was told that we don't have any light beer, only micro brews are served here. I had some aunt Sally's brew which I did like. My final thoughts are that this is a cool place for drinks if your around the square and want to experience a throw back in time when you could smoke in a neat place. read more

They have cigars that range for the novice mild tasters that dabble once in a while, to the pungent Dominican, Honduran, and other South American heavy hitters. Expect rare gins, Scotches, Italian spirits, aged bourbons, and tequilas here. There is always a good selection of Bell's beers, IPAs, a.cider on tap, European specialities, some serious stouts. We just happened to park in front of the bar prior to dinner around the corner and couldn't help but take a look and we were happy we did. Located in a great area for bars and restaurants just a block from the Capital. It was a smaller, cozy place with a lot of older wood and brick. Walls were tastefully adorned. Bar seating along with a mix of tables and chairs/couches. People enjoying drinks, card games, and cigars. Appears that they had a good selection of high-end liquor. We did not sample any scotch or cigars but loved their craft beer selection. Prices were reasonable and the service very friendly. While you definitely smelled the cigar in the air it wasn't smokey. Next time we will make this a planned stop and be more adventurous and try a cigar! read more

It's a great place to go with a few friends. I got a glass of wine. It was a light-bodied red and very good. Always a great time here. The bartenders/servers are extremely knowledgeable and are usually pretty happy to help you out in cigar or drink selection. The ambiance is nice, with a combo of bar seating along with giant cushy leather couches. They have a plethora of ash trays and lighters/matches so you are never left hanging. The addition of outside seating when the weather is nice is amazing as well. Their drinks are always phenomenal. All top shelf in mixers, and a truly eclectic mix of brews to match any palette. Their bartenders are mixologist-grade and you will enjoy anything they make. They charge accordingly for said drinks, but it is not too bad given what you are getting. The only reason for not 5 stars is their cigar selection could use some help. It is very good, but not great. Especially when compared to some new heavy hitter cigar bars not that far away with giant walk-in humidors full of hundreds of options. Don't get me wrong, they definitely have very high-quality smokes, but if you are in the mood for something specific or "non-standard", you will struggle finding it here. Say it ain't so - they no longer carry his Pierre Ferrand cognac. GASP. Something with the distributors... He orders some other light cognac at the recommendation of the guy bar tender. He's content. He orders me a Pink Panther. I get a Corona cigar for him and something in the case I personally haven't seen before. Something called "Eileens Dream." Yum-Yum! I have 2 before the night is through. The DJ - DJ Jeremy Thomas I think it was, was jammin'. OMGoodness. As the only cigar bar in Madison that I know of, they are my go to spot for cigars. I'm an 'every once in a while' cigar smoker, probably averaging 2 to 4 in a year. From what I know about cigars (which isn't much, hah!), they have a great selection. I like that it's not just about cigars, you can get a great cocktail (or beer) too! The atmosphere is what you would expect, lots of lounge like couches and inviting for groups of all sizes. A few years ago I met up with some friends in Madison on business and they took me to Maduro. Ever since, it's been one of my favorite stops any time in back in town. Cigar options are very good and well kept to ensure a long-burning experience. Don't be afraid to ask one of the bartenders for ideas in any new product. The scotch, bourbon, and whiskey lists are also superb, with more than enough options regardless of your palate. Also be sure to ask the served for ideas on pairing the tobacco with the best spirit.... The tap list is also very good with a wide variety of small batch, crafts, majors, and sours. Given that this bar is one of those that you can just hang out in for quite a while, I'd also recommend bringing a few other people for a good game of cribbage or euchre. And when it gets a bit warmer (and the wind dies down a bit), the outdoor seating is perfect for an evening's relaxation. read more

Couldn't approach the bar to get a drink though, too many entitled white dudes "holding their space" who wouldn't move their comfortably outstretched elbows aside even a little bit to allow anyone polite access. You have to sneak around to the side of the bar to be helped by one of the (excellent) bartenders. Dudes at the bar are probably the same dudes who follow you too closely in traffic even though you're going 15 over the speed limit already, then endanger the other drivers near you by weaving through everyone to rage-pass you on the right. Almost gave this place a bad review, but it's not the management's fault, the place is great in other respects. So one star knocked off for the Little Emperors & Mini-moguls at the bar. read more

I am a big fan of this place. The bartender is awesome the vibe is very chill. Nice to simply relax and enjoy yourself. They have a solid offering for bourbons and some interesting brandies. Their cigar selection is a bit light on choices but what they do have is mid range and decent. You can bring your own cigar, however, a percentage of their sales needs to come from their own cigar sales. So be a champ and buy one every now and again. This is my favorite spot in Madison. One of the few places to bother with a variance from Madison's smoking ban, they managed to stay afloat in the early days due to the awesome atmosphere. This is a great spot to enjoy a scotch and a cigar. Their scotch selection is a little limited, but they at least have some of the important labels. Their humidor has a good selection with a wide price range, so it is a perfect way to try some new cigars or introduce your friends to cigar smoking. They'll cut your cigar, and they have plenty of wooden matches and cedar wood strips to get your selection lit properly. I enjoy lounging on one of their plush couches, chairs, and loveseats. They play different types of music, and on Fridays they usually have a DJ. The result of this is a strange fusion of conservative cigar aficionados, hipsters who enjoy the drinks, tap beers, and eclectic music, and the random attractive ladies who like to dance to some jams proffered by Friday's DJs. Yes, your hair and clothes will stAnk like grandpa cigar smoke well after you leave this establishment however, this swankish place will offer you a nice fat smoke, fine caramel colored intoxicants and last but not least, lusciously smooth chocolates from Cocoliquot...brilliant idea for a bar I must say! And if you're really lucky and get there a little early, you may get to hear Lovage's "Music to make love to your old lady by" playing in the background - PERRRRFECT music for this smoke hazed place. I was traveling on business that landed me in Madison. I did my usual Yelp research to find places I wanted to try. Somehow this place escaped me. I had a great dinner at a local spot just about a block away. I had asked the waitress/bartender if she had any suggestions. I still had enough in my power banks for one last stop for the night. Maduro was her suggestion. This place could not have been any more perfect. Great chill spot for a quiet wind down to the end of the night. Decent selection of cigars mainltained perfectly in their double door humidor. A different selection of beers from what I had seen in the places I had been the prior night. Nice to see a creative variety. I was further sold with this place when I saw Duchesse de Bourgogne on draft. One of my favorite beers in the world. Very creative cocktail list, and excellent variety of spirits. Not an overabundance, but if you had good products, you don't need many. Talented bartender to say the least. It was a quiet early mid-week night, but the ventilation system was impressive. There were a few at the bar smoking, and there was a serious pull upwards with all of the smoke. Can't say enough great about this place. My reposado tequila and chartreuse cocktail expertly crafted by the bartender, matched with a Flor Fina Cigar from Arturo Fuente will be remembered for time to come. Side note: In order for this place to continue operating - 15% of their revenue has to come from cigar sales. Splurge a little when you go and honor yourself with a cigar. I come from MA, and the % of cigar sales in the VERY few remaining cigar lounges in our state is shockingly higher. 51% to be precise (and no, this is not a typo). I went on a Saturday night and although crowded, the ventilation was amazingly good and the place was not smokey!!! I was looking for a place to go after realizing decline in the service quality and over population at Natt Spill. Love the couches and the lounge feel. When I visited here on Saturday night with my friend, a DJ started his gigg around 10:30pm~ . I liked the music - slightly 80s, but most of the time a nice chill music to complement the atmosphere. I don't smoke, and if you don't want to inhale the cigar smoke, I advise you to sit close to the entrance area. If it's not too terribly cold, I want to try a cigar and hang outside. The wine selection is pretty good, although per glass price is on the higher side (compared to offerings at Barrique etc). Bartenders are attentive and professional.
