The time was nigh for us to hire a professional baby photographer to capture her small-ish state before she turned gargantuan or graduated from high school. Enter Colleen White Photography! After picking out a few photographers in the Jersey City/Hoboken area that had great work displayed on their websites, I sent the short list to Bald One. He immediately began using his superior Excel spreadsheet skills [[smirk]] to map out pricing of prints and albums and digital photos...after much crunching (for him) and munching (for me, mama gets hungry!!!) we both agreed that Colleen offered the best packages and a la carte options for the best value and as an added bonus, she had been my first choice anyway. :) Colleen showed up at our house promptly with all her props and equipment, and at first, we had a rough time getting 3-month-old Baby D to cooperate. She was sleepy. She was fussy. She was cranky. She was a grump. We fed her, changed her, and rocked her. Took a few pics. Then she was sleepy, fussy, and grumpy again. Repeat. We ended up taking a bunch of photos in our apartment in different locations, including on our deck. Colleen had creative ideas for various shots and she came prepared with plenty of headbands and wraps to complete Baby D's look! :) She probably spent about 2-2.5 hours with us in our apartment. I had said earlier that I wanted to go to Hamilton Park to take outdoor family pictures, but Baby D was threatening to sleep again after all the activity. Colleen suggested that we let her sleep and then text her to meet us in the park when she was up. I was floored by her flexibility and kindness. It was a Friday night, after all. We met Colleen in the park and finished up our shoot. Soon afterwards, we received a teaser and the digital proofs to review. When it came time to choose photos, she brought prints of the digital proofs to our house and together, we put them in piles and rank-ordered the ones to use in the album and prints. It was such a personalized process and as a result, we have images that we will cherish forever!!!! Thank you, Colleen! Baby D's grandparents stare at her canvas wrap photo every day! Belisia provided us with great guidance that facilitated a natural photoshoot - which can be extra challenging for overtired new parents unaccustomed to modeling - plus a baby and excitable pup! We felt so comfortable with her help and that is truly reflected in the finished photo product. I wanted to send out newborn announcements as quickly as possible; Belisia went above and beyond to turn around edits on a few photos quickly so I was able to promptly get those in the mail. A fantastic experience all around - but nothing could have prepared me for the beauty of the finished product that Belisia would deliver. We received our photo gallery today and could not be more pleased with the results; the care that Belisia put into editing and curating the collection of photos is absolutely remarkable. Most spectacularly, the slideshow that is so artfully crafted will be leaving me teary-eyed for years to come. As soon as we left our meeting, we knew we wanted to use them. Just talking to April and Jared was so easy, loved their work and their personality. As soon as we got home, we booked them and cancelled our other upcoming meetings with other photographers. They were a blast to work with. They were professional, on time, and easy going. They had no problem doing anything we requested, but of course had plenty of great suggestions for us. They also had no problem getting pictures when our family or guests requested one. The only tough thing was to wait 3 months to get our pictures! It was well worth being patient though, such great photographs to give us a memory of such a wonderful day.
