This is definitely the real deal Tuscany type of experience. It's incredibly scenic and quiet, only a short drive from the lovely little town Montespertoli. The housekeeper Giuseppe is a very kind and helpful man. Our heat wasn't working one night and he brought us a huge thing of firewood to stay warm til the morning. Reception isn't open often compared to many places so you have to get up early to catch the receptionist. It's incredible, but only if you prefer the disconnect and relaxed type of stays. There's WiFi but no tvs or alarm clocks or daily room service. Our one bedroom apartment came with a kitchenette that we were thankful for during Sunday when everything is closed. Far more worth it than a modern hotel room, in my opinion.

I booked a trip with the intent of staying in a castle in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Upon our arrival we discovered a few things: Our room was more of a condo style room outside of the castle. We did have limited access to the castle itself but many of the areas were closed due to the fact that they were painting. I was excited to climb the tower after reading some good reviews and that was also closed. So much for the castle experience.... We were greeted by a very nice man who did not speak any English and after a very long flight and stressful drive from Rome we were advised that their restaurant is closed. Now I searched their website before coming and did not see this. We had planned on eating dinner there and had no energy to go elsewhere for dinner so protein bars it was. Our condo/room outside of the castle had very thin walls and not only could we hear everything our neighbors in the adjoining condo/room was doing, and I mean everything, we were also able to hear all the cars and people that went by. Now you would think that such a rural area wouldn't have that much traffic but at times during the night and very early mornings it was ridiculous. Add that to the local dogs barking and the cats yowling and not having a television or fan to drown out the sounds and good luck sleeping. Now another thing I did not see on their website was that they provided one roll of toilet paper per bathroom and thats it!! If you ran out then it was up to you to buy more There is also absolutely no room services or cleaning. Although they charged me $60 euro when we checked out to clean. And they did not provide any cleaning supplies so again we had to buy our own. Now it is a close to Florence and in the middle of wine country so there are some beautiful areas around the castle you just have to drive to get there. Be prepared for very narrow roads and people on motorcycles to pass you when you are least expecting it. Some of the roads have very tight switchbacks as you go up/down so drive smart. The two local villages both had extremely nice people so that was great. Be aware that most places are closed Monday so plan ahead. Now the thing that really upset me. Upon checking out I was charged a 25 euro per day heating charge. I did see this on the website and my travel forms but we were never asked if we wanted the heat on. We are from a cold area so the weather was nothing to us. A few of the nights the rooms were so hot that we were down to our shorts and t-shirts and still sweating. When I spoke with the lady about being charged for something we did not ask for her reply was that we could have asked to have it turned off. Now that made me upset because when we got there the gentleman that greeted us did not speak English to ask to have it turned off for that night. The next days we spent driving and exploring the beautiful surrounding areas and did not get back until dinner time (1930/7:30pm) time so no one was in the reception room. In fact they lock the castle up tight each night so even guests can not go in. I found this out the second night when I tried to go to the reception area to use their internet because the wifi in our room was not working and could not get into the castle. So how was I supposed to tell anyone at this place that we would like our rooms cooler? She had the audacity to tell me that I should have left her a note... With what paper and pen I have no clue but needless to say I was very unhappy. Add this all up and I would not suggest this hotel to anyone. Maybe drive up and visit to see the castle but don't stay there.

Part of the view from our patio and it doesn't do it justice!

The grounds are beautiful, our room was enormous and the staff paid attention to every detail during our stay. My wife and I just renovated our house and we put in a pool and landscaping that borrows from the aesthetic of Castello del Nero's pool area. We are already planning to return for my 40th birthday...3 Years from now. We spent 3 weeks in Italy at 6 different hotels and this is the only one I think about and have to return to. The restaurants are both amazing and the breakfast is the best we had on our trip. If I could give 10 stars I would, so if you're even considering a stay at Castello del Nero I'd say look no further...it's time to book a reservation.

This hotel is a really high-end boutique hotel that really goes above and beyond to deliver an outstanding experience for all guests. The hotel is conveniently located in a small town about 30-40 minutes by car from Florence (between Florence and Siena). It is in the Chianti wine region of Tuscany. We stayed in a basic room, which was very nice. It was very large (one of the largest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in that wasn't a suite). There was a welcome bottle of champagne (already chilled for us) as well as a bottle of red wine and a huge basket of fresh fruit ready for us on our coffee table. There was a hand-written note to us that was a nice personal touch. The room had a beautiful view of the Tuscan countryside. The things that really stood out to me were: 1. Complimentary welcome champagne and wine 2. Abundant fruit basket that got replenished daily. 3. Complimentary bottled still and sparkling water replenished daily. 4. A pillow menu for guests! 5. Full breakfast every morning included with the room - there were 10 different kinds of milk out to suit everyone's preference (almond, soy, rice, goat, etc.) 5. The very nice spa 6. The setting of course! You literally couldn't ask for a more picturesque place! 7. Complimentary up to date movies on your TV 8. Great hiking trails right on the property My only (very small) complaints are that there was no dresser or shelves in the room - I had nowhere to unpack any of my folded clothes (there is only hanging space in the closet), and the mattress is very firm (this is just a personal issue though!). This hotel is very special and truly understands how to deliver a higher than 5-star experience to guests. I would highly recommend it for honeymooners, or anyone wanting a relaxing getaway in a beautiful place!

We were…read morein Italy for two weeks and wanted to spend a day away from tours, crowds, and more walking. Borgo Divino is a winery with a few rooms and a restaurant. The room was very spacious and nice. Almost every room has a semi-private patio on the backside. Our room had a four-post canopy bed. The shower floor space in our room was huge but the slope in the roof made most of it unusable. The a/c worked very well as Italy was in the midst of a major heat wave. Like most Italian hotels, they do have washcloths. They only have hand towels and bath towels. TMI alert but after spending two weeks in Italy, I'm a fan of the bidet. We don't have them in the USA. The view from the infinity pool is beautiful. We spent most of our day in the pool relaxing and cooling off. Be careful under the Tuscan sun if you are fair complected. You can look as red as the Yelp banner if you're careless. The Borgo Divino has a restaurant on premises. We were there on a Thursday night and enjoyed the live music. He was a solo act that played an electronic keyboard with other background instruments. He sang pretty well. His songs varied between Italian and English. There is room for a few couples to slow dance. We did. We were the only ones that did, so we were a little in the spotlight. She deserves the spotlight after putting up with me for 30 years. I'm thankful she's still willing to dance with me after all these years. The food at the restaurant was very good. We started with a pasta dish and then both ordered a meat dish. The portions are large. We could have easily split a meat dish after enjoying the 1st course pasta. Between the two steaks, I liked the one with the peppercorn more than the one with the purplish wine sauce. They also offered other excursions in which we did not partake. Some of them are a wine tasting, a cooking class, truffles hunting/digging with a dog, and a tour of the winery. This is only a few that I can recall off the top of my head. When, not if, we come back, we will partake in some of them. My absolute biggest regret about coming here is that we did not stay more than one night. Breakfast is included and begins at 7:30 am. Unfortunately, we had to catch a train to Rome from Florence fairly early the next day and had to return our rent car before the train departed. We had to leave around 7:00 to get all of this accomplished so we missed breakfast. Driving Tip - If driving here from Florence, do not trust Google Maps to get you there. Use the WAZE app instead. It was more accurate. I had to use WAZE to eventually find it. Google maps had me cutting through someone's private vineyard (which was gated, so it was impossible). Bottom line - Beautiful views with spacious rooms. We should have stayed longer. We really want to come back and stay again to get the full experience. We highly recommend it.

It is an extraordinary retreat where history, landscape, and luxury come together in a way that feels almost cinematic. Castello is atop a hill in the Tuscan countryside, the property occupies a restored 10th‑century castle within a large 4,200‑acre estate of vineyards, olive groves, forests, and fields. From the moment you arrive via a winding, cypress-lined road, it feels as though you've stepped into another era (as if driving through a forest). The setting alone is breathtaking, with sweeping views of rolling hills that stretch as far as the eye can see. The atmosphere is one of timeless, laid-back elegance. Despite its large scale, the estate feels peaceful and secluded, offering a true escape from daily life. The historic architecture such as stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and rustic details has been meticulously preserved, while contemporary design elements ensure comfort never feels compromised. One of the hotel's strongest aspects is how seamlessly it integrates with its surroundings. The estate is actively lived in, with agriculture, local production, and outdoor experiences shaping the guest experience. Dining at Tosca ristorante at Castello di Casole was a highpoint. The restaurant highlights traditional Tuscan cuisine, using ingredients grown directly on the estate...olive oil, wine, and seasonal produce. The food was exceptional, with a focus on authenticity and quality. We sampled items like baby squid, bread and oil, tortelli, and seabed amberjack. Service was one of the defining features of the hotel. Our servers were attentive, professional, and personable Memorable meal... Castello di Casole d'Elsa is a nice anniversary splurge that captures the essence of Tuscany in both style and substance. With its extraordinary setting, refined design, and outstanding service, it offers a deeply memorable visit that feels authentic. We had heard great reviews about the restaurant- and we were able to get in the same day for lunch, despite no reservations. I ordered the homemade tagliatelle with beef ragu- the noodles were fresh and cooked to perfection, the beef ragu sauce had a good amount of meat, and was very flavorful. The best part about the restaurant is how FRESH everything is- you sit next to a garden and will actually see the chef go down and pick out fresh basil, kale, etc. for dishes on the menu. The tour itself was well organized, but seemed a little less personal than others I've been on (somewhat expected from larger wineries). I also found the 3 wines (Chianti) in the tasting to be "good", but not great. Eat beforehand because you get VERY few snacks that will not fill you up. The winery was HUGE and easy to see why they host weddings here- it was absolutely gorgeous and the landscaping was breath-taking. The views are outstanding and you won't be able to take enough pictures. You get a tour around the buildings, the room with the wine-making equipment, the wine barrels, and the garden- but you will not enter the vineyard. They gave a great little description of the history of the vineyard and the Villa (they have the official records to actually date the establishment), and I found it very interesting.

The Palazzo is the nicest hotel in Livorno, and has been in biz for over 100 yrs. It has great views of the water fr the rooftop bar & restaurant. Single rooms were about €150,00 including taxes & fees. The rooms were spacious, and the bathrooms were good sized and inc a tub. We indulged in the bar & apps, bfast buffet and dinner during our stay. The service was excellent, but the pricing is high. For an example, an Americano cocktail was €18,00 vs elsewhere the drink would have been €8,00. Secondarily, the buffet is €22,00, but did not have made to order items. The scrambled eggs were runny, and the sausage were like hot dogs. I stuck to the charcuterie, boiled eggs, fresh fruit and croissants. I also grabbed take away for mija & ITC, that dropped the actual cost closer to €7,00/person. Lastly, dinner was +€100,00 for two entrees, a salad, a dessert and one glass of wine. All in all, a positive stay bc of the rooms, the location and excellent service. Apparently the Palazzo is popular for weddings and bachelorette parties too. There's a lot to say, so I'll try to break it up. Loction: Tuscany is overwhelming, but the hotel's location in Chianti is prime. You are only a 10-15 minute ride from Catellina which is a beautiful village with lots of restaurants and shops. You are also the same distance from several wineries. None are walkable, but because everything is so spread out that's probably tough to find anywhere. The hotel does have bikes, but just a warning that it's very tough to bike because of all the hills. Food & Drink: What you don't need to walk very far for is excellent food and drink. Breakfast is included in your stay and the spread is delicious. Lots of hot and cold options including eggs and bacon, meats and cheeses, fruits, pastries and oatmeal. There is also an incredible restaurant on the property (more on that in another review). It was so good that we ended up eating dinner there two out of three nights. Oh, and let's not forget the honors bar. The hotel has a few honors style bars set up throughout the property. Drawers and fridges full of every kind of wine, beer and liquor. Plus fixings to make cocktails and spritzes. All you'll need to do is write down how many you have and your room will be charged. The Grounds / Interiors: This is the best part about Locanda. The grounds are gorgeous. The rooms are impeccable. Every single inch of the space is thoughtfully designed, modern and perfect. Outside you'll find fresh plants and herbs, rolling hills and vineyards and the most gorgeous pool smack dab in the middle of it all. If we didn't have plans to hit wineries I honestly could have sat at that pool all day. Each day we got back to the hotel in the afternoon and spent hours relaxing and taking in the views. The rooms and all other interior space have the most whimsical decor -- I was a big fan of the dream catchers and artwork. Service: The service was on point the entire time. They really do their best to make you feel comfortable and like you are staying with family. At one point one of the groundskeepers was picking fresh figs and she even brought a bundle over to us straight from the tree. I can only dream about returning to this hotel again one day. If I ever find myself in Tuscany you can bet that this is where I'll stay.
