I was hesitant to go to Moorish Castle because everyone said that it was equivalent to the Great Wall of China and that there were be a LOT of hiking. Fortunately, this was not as bad as what people made it out to be, and I'm glad I got to see this castle.
Moorish Castle was our third castle of the day, following Regaleira and Monserrate. A tour guide graciously offered us a €5 euro car ride per person from Monserrate after our Uber driver picked up other people and told us to cancel. Bless that tour guide. We got there around 1:30pm and had to walk along a small hill to the entrance where we showed them our pre-purchased tickets. Totally recommend buying beforehand as you get a small discount. Also saves you time if there happens to be a long line for tickets.
Following other people's reviews, I was preparing for us to do some extreme hiking which would take us hours, but we managed to get through everything in an hour and a half. Of course, the castle will require you to walk up a lot of steps but as someone who hates hiking and steep hills, this was not too bad. The view is gorgeous along the staircase, and you end up taking breaks to take pictures anyway. There was also a breeze which helped cool us down since it was also hot. Regardless of the weather, bringing water is an absolute must. I imagine the water they sell at these places is overpriced.
This is an absolute must do if you're in Sintra. I recommend that you either take the bus, or the best option, an Uber, up towards the path for the Moorish Castle entrance. DO NOT WALK THERE FROM THE VILA! You do not want to waste your time and energy on this incline. 10/10 recommend you add this to your list of places to go to if you're visiting Sintra. read more
