When you first take your child to St Chads it is like joining a big family. They encourage parents and other family members to get involved very early on. there is a very helpful family learning program as well as having all your regular coffee mornings and school fairs. In my time as a parent at the school I got to know all the teachers very well by first name terms and was always welcomed to help out with activities and trips. The other great things about the school is the head teacher Mrs Bull is always accessible to parents and children alike and she takes a hands on approach to running her school unlike other schools I have visited where the parents wouldn't even know what the head looked like. If you live in the area and are looking for a good start to your children's education I would pick St Chads and you will find it so hard to leave when they reach 7 years old but it will be all worth it.

It has a massive campus from which you never have to leave if you choose not to. As a sporting university drugs are very low profile which suits me fine. Drinking is the biggest vice around and the Student's Union is a superb venue. The Civil Engineering Department is really top class. As with any Department anywhere the odd lecturer is a let down but in general lecturers are there to help. When I came on an open day I asked what it meant that the Research score for the Department was less than in other places for which I got the reply well do you want to be taught by someone who's done it or by someone who has spent their life in a lab. Good point and many of the lecturers lend real life experience into the education that can bring the subject alive.

There…read moreis also a similar sized leisure centre in Ashby-De-La-Zouch, but in my opinion the Hermitage offers a better experience than the Ashby alternative. The leisure centre offers all the usual services you woul expect to be offered; including an excellent indoor swimming pool. In addition, there is a large sports hall for indoor football, badminton and other regular activities such as Karate and table tennis. Upstairs is a modern 'techno gym' which has a good balance between cardio and weights. My personal favourite thing about the leisure centre is the squash courts. They are all enclosed, which means the ball can not go out of the court over the top of the glass; many other courts at leisure centres in the region have open designs, which is incredibly frustrating. The leisure centre also runs many programs whatever your need and age: from high intensity aerobic workouts, to tai- chi. The leisure centre also owns a large portion of land adjacent to it and has a number of open football pitches, an astroturf for football and hockey as well as a fairly large fishing lake. Finally, it operates a 9-hole golf course which is well maintaned and challenging! Price wise, as it is operated by the council, the prices are better or as good as you would find at a commercially run gym/fitness centre.

I remember when I…read morewas a child, I was always good at Maths, and as a reward for finishing my work early, i used to go to see Mr Harris, the headteacher, and play games like Tetris on his GameBoy. Mr Harris has since passed away, but I do see the old dinnerladies around and about sometimes :) Excellent school to send the kids to, and the ricxe pudding is particularly delicious. YUM!. Massive Thumbs Up!
