Originally, it was listed as a 'a lock up house with a room over it in which a magistrates court and parochial meetings were held'. In 1858 it was falling into very bad repair so the court and magistrates relocated to a new building. The Town Hall then became a 'Mechanics Institute' which included a library. In 1881 a clock tower was built and in 1912 another floor was added. Easy to find as it's up a very unusual double stairway (unfortunately I didn't capture that in my photo) and can be seen from many parts of the town.

There are a quite a few local bands which are very popular, and this is the place to come and watch them. Christmas time is tgood as special acoustic night etc are organised. Battles of the bands and such like. There is also occasionally big name bands playing here, pendulum played recently! The prices are great, and always very reasonalbe. There is a good bar, and lots of seating around the edge and at the back of the main floor area. They ahve a very good policy and underaged people have a wrist band on, so they dont get served alcohol. There is also a cafe that is open during the day. And an art gallery upstairs, which showcases local artisst exhibitions aswel as visiting artists. All in all this is a fantic community hall type place, and there should be more of them!

A really nice shop to find beautiful greetings cards quite a bit cheaper than in the larger shops…read more(like Clinton and WH Smiths). Most of the cards have the price on the backs (a small label) which is so much better than having to look for a letter code and then match it to a chart, as you now need to do almost everywhere else. Everything is categorised and labelled well so it's easy to find what you're looking for. There's plenty of wrapping paper, boxes, balloons, local postcards and small gifts too - and the staff are pleasant and helpful. Definitely recommended!

In contrast to the busy, loud streets I'm used to, it's a very remote and quiet area. There is a lovely lake that leads out to the closest beach. The grounds are open and you can walk along the lake and all over the place. On one adventure I stumbled upon a vegetable garden, which I later asked & learned were all organic and used in the restaurant on the grounds. All the ingredients and meats used in the restaurant are all-organic and grown locally, either on the hotel grounds or from close farmers. There is a beautiful venue for weddings close to the restaurant, and the one I witnessed was absolutely lovely. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a calming, quiet getaway.

The staff were nice; the breakfast was excellent (though a little slow); the room was quite adequate. I loved the in-room coffee and tea with the fresh milk in the fridge outside. They were able to easily accommodate our party of three adults and two kids. They have free parking, right next to the hotel! A huge bonus! They have a lovely bar area when you come in with a nice selection of ales and afternoon cream tea and scones. There is also a very private sitting area off to the side, and some games for kids (or adults) to sit and while-away the grey weather. The location here is really prime; right in the square; St David's Cathedral is just a three minute walk down the hill and The Bishops pub, across the street, is an excellent place to grab dinner. The only downsides to this place are the price (a little steep), no ocean view, and it feels sort of in need of an up-date (though is quaint, nonetheless).

As we were setting off on the road again we decided to use the 'facilities' both ladies and gentlemen's in this case and they were - here we go again - Yuck! Advised reception about the state of the toilets and they said something along the lines of 'Oh yeah, thank you'. So if you go there there admire the view and grab a few leaves off the tree to make your tea. Remember not to use the toilet and look for a better place to eat....any place?

I had slow-roasted pork cooked in hay which was served with potatoes and cabbage: the meat was a little fatty, but tasty and a little different. Starters cost around £5-8, mains £13-17, sweets around £5. The rooms are clean, reasonably modern and well equipped with free Wi-Fi available in the bar and rooms. The service was OK, the car park is a reasonable with a large overflow car park.

The Trewern Arms is a gem of a find! Slightly off the beaten track, it can be found a couple of…read moremiles outside Newport on the Cardigan Road (look for the sign on the left, and turn for Nevern). Trewern has 10 rooms, a bar where bar meals and Sunday lunches are served (the Gegin Fach, or small kitchen) and an A La Carte restaurant. We had the delicious homemade lasagne and steak and kidney pie (it really was lovely!) We hope to try the restaurant next time we go back! There is also a function room there where private parties can be held. The staff were all lovely, eager to help, and we heard other customers comment on how lovely it was to hear so much Welsh being spoken! Would highly recommend it to any one!
