I'd never had a sick pet before, and was immediately panicked on what to do. I always brought my cat, Toast, to Dakota Vet for all his regular appointments so at the very least, I knew to start there. All his past appointments at Dakota Vet were fantastic. The staff are so sweet and truly care about animals. They don't try to overcharge you or make you feel bad/pressured about what to do. They understand how hard it can be to manage a sick pet. When I brought him to Dakota Pet again for his illness, I experienced the same thing. The staff were awesome at helping me talk through his symptoms and determine the best solution for him. They explained everything they did, every step of the way, which I really appreciated. They put up with my mother and I calling to make sure we knew what was going on and were extremely patient with answering all our questions (and we had a lot lol). Dr. Reinicke was great at caring for Toast and helping figure out what may be going on. She provided lots of options, talked through each of them, and handled Toast fantastically. I really appreciate Dakota Vet for helping my cat and I during the uncertainty of his illness. I'm happy to say that he's improving now, and I can't thank Dakota Pet enough for all their help!

But the vet care at Dakota in general is exceptional! Even though they are always heavily booked, one day when two of our girls had gotten into a fight and one had an ear that was bleeding, they took her right in and gave her stitches without an appointment. Also, take into account that Sam and his team not only train for obedience and hunting, but also spent time in war zones training explosives detection dogs and have a charity training veteran's and their service dogs. Simply put, they know what they're doing. Now, on to my review...I take my two Beagles (5 and 13 years old) here regularly. My dogs love it there! They are well attended to, played with, and always smell nice when I pick them up. The facilities are clean and temperature appropriate for the season. The staff keeps the runs and play areas tidy. They always keep an eye out for health issues and are very flexible with pickup and drop off times. At $68/night for both my hounds, this is my kennel of choice. The bottom line is my dogs love it here and that's the only feedback that matters to me!

My cat has been poked and prodded by several of the friendly, purrrfessional vets and vet techs at this clinic, and he and I like them all (as does my sister, whose cats also reluctantly visit this clinic). They are empathetic, gentle, and wonderful at easing your worry while explaining procedures. Not to mention they are experts at obliterating cats' stank breath! We have sent numerous other friends and family here...which is a 20-30 minute drive away from home town. I brought my dog in to have him neutered and it was a horrifying experience. He was dropped off at…read more8:30 am and they called at 1:30 pm stating that everything went well and that I could pick him up after 3 pm. My partner went in at 330 to get him and they carried him out and my partner said that his sack was the size of a soft ball. My partner asked them if that was normal, and they said it might be. The vet said they would keep him a little longer to see if it went down, well it didnt. They ended up having to go back in 2 additional times because he had internal bleeding. They were not able to locate it , so they ended opening his penis by cutting it from the tip to his sack and opened his stomach to check for bleeding. They never found where all the bleeding was coming from and they were not sure why he was swelling like that but said they gave him an extra stich to see if that helped. They called me multiple times throughout the day stating he should be fine but we are going to go back in. In all he went under 3 different times and nothing was found but he had stiches from his sack to his breast bone and along side his whole penis. They called me at 830 pm saying I had 3 choices, 1. pick him up and monitor him myself, 2. leave him there alone in a cage for the night, or 3. Rush him to the ER vet. I opted to take him home because I didnt want him to be alone overnight. The Vet who did the surgeries told me he didnt know what went wrong but asked me to call him if I take him somewhere else so I could tell him what they say the issue is. I feel like he didnt know what he was even doing. He came across very nervous and remorseful, he knew he made a mistake but didnt admit it. We didnt think he would make it through the night. He had to be carried home because he was so out of it and in pain he could not even lift his head. He still had blood sweeping through the stiches. Some weeks went by and he is still alive, but I will no longer use this vet because they butchered my dog and almost killed him. Also side note he had a Scrotal Hematoma and it happens when you mess up the neuter and they didnt need to cut open his penis or go into his stomach for that. This used to be my go to vet but their doctors have changed and not for the better. I also had my other dog put down here 2 years ago he was 14 and had cancer and they lost his ashes, so never going here again.

I am heartbroken and still in shock, yet thankful for the experience I had at this clinic. On Friday, January 30th, I called Black Dog to make an appointment for my cat, Mackers. He had not been eating well, and his breathing had become somewhat labored the night before. The person I spoke with was so kind and professional, and was able to squeeze me in fairly close to their closing time. My previous vet clinic and emergency vet clinics were all at least a half hour away, out of the question considering the breathing issues. He would already pant heavily in distress during car rides when healthy. So it was a huge relief to get an appointment in town, at a clinic of which family and friends spoke quite highly. From the moment I walked in I knew Mackers was in the best hands. The whole Black Dog team from Dr. Boyle to the technicians, team lead, and customer service rep showed an extraordinary level of compassion and empathy during what turned into one of the hardest moments of my life. Mackers was quickly administered oxygen and had x-rays taken that showed a large mass in his chest. Dr. Boyle was amazing--she came over with Kleenex and got down on her knees next to me to discuss the diagnosis and plan. It was obvious what needed to be done to prevent further suffering. Even though the clinic was closing in an hour, I was never rushed. The team gave space and as much time alone as I needed to say goodbye and consider final arrangements, while making sure both Mackers and I were as comfortable as possible. The team's gentle approach, calm demeanor, and genuine empathy meant more than I can put into words. Thank you.
