Tomlinson Run State Park offers breakfast at the campground on Saturdays from 8am-12pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day, and it's truly a hidden gem. The food was absolutely delicious--hot, fresh, and made with care. What's even better? It's all prepared by amazing volunteers, and every dollar goes right back into supporting the park. You can really feel the community pride in every bite. We'll definitely be back again before the season ends. If you're local (or even just passing through), make the stop. It's a great way to kick off a Saturday morning surrounded by nature and good people.

First time visiting this park. It is on the small side compared to other WV State Parks. This means…read morethat it is faster to get to where you are going in the park (no long road in). As you enter the park there is a road to the right that takes you to the campground (BTW, I have rated the campground separately under Campground at Tomlinson Run State Park). As you drive forward you will pass the Park Superintendent's house (on the right). Behind the house is a tiny building that serves at the park HQ. This is where you need to go if you want to stamp your VIPP card. Not obvious and you feel like you trespassing on the residence there but just drive past and then to your right and find the stamp. Along this road on the left you will find a picnic area and shortly after you will come to the edge of a small lake (on the left). On the right is the entrance to a road the winds up and around to the top of a hill (through the woods). There are two picnic areas. The first is off to the left before really heading up the hill. This one was buggy when I was there. At the top of the hill there is a parking lot and picnic areas. Nice spot! The road that goes through the park continues onward and then there is a parking area on the right above the lake. At the lake's edge are paddle boat rentals. If you continue on the road straight on the road you will end up exiting the park.

The double smashburger was juicy and cheesy, the rattlesnake bites were lightly breaded and super creamy, and the wings were perfectly sauced and crispy. The buffalo sauce wasn't the level of heat we were looking for, but the flavor was still nice. Each thing came out as soon as it was ready. So, nothing ran the risk of getting cold.

If you do one of the animal encounters like my family and I did, then your experience will definitely be great. We got to go into the area where the sloth and tamarins live and feed them treats! We also got to gently pet the sloth, and watch the tamarins scurry around their living area. Tamarins are super curious and playful creatures -- they kept wanting to dangle over our heads, and they also have toys that they play with. The sloth moved about, too, but very slowly, as a sloth is wont to do. I think it's cool that two different kinds of animals, sloths and tamarins, can live together peacefully. I felt very honored to be allowed into the home they share. You can also do animal encounters with porcupines, cheetahs, bobcats, maned wolves, red pandas and other creatures. Afterward, we walked around the outdoor part of the zoo, which is on the small side. Some of the animals were out, like a pack of wolves just kickin' it in the late afternoon sun. For the most part, though, the zoo was deserted. The train was not running, the activities were closed and none of the concession stands were open. We visited in the off season, though. So if you visit during a month that is not warm, expect a desolate outdoor experience. The indoor part of the zoo is very fun for kids, though, especially young kids. There are lots of animal exhibits to see (this is where the red panda lives). There are also just lots of fun activities and toys to play with indoors. It would be a nice place to visit on a rainy day if you have a young child.

The hunt way down right amazing the guides are top of the line same as the dogs. What stood out the most to me was the honesty of the owner and the staff let alone the hard work that they put in to make sure you have the hunt of a lifetime....I will going back every year to hunt with them....

My experience at Bullseye Pheasant and Duck Preserve was unforgettable…read more The hunting trip our group choose to go on was pheasant. The dogs were very obedient, focused and persistent. Our guide for the day was Mr. Matt Peters. He had complete control over the dogs at all times and was very knowledgeable. This is up on the board as one of the best days of my life. I highly recommend Bullseye Pheasant and Duck Preserve.
