All I can say is the staff are immature and have been caught throwing parties and providing profanity to TEENS, you school is really dirty, the technology is incredibly behind, the kids are incredibly behind making it hard for teamwork to even be imagined, the teachers are overworked because of the fact they're underpaid, and we just barely got a little diversity in our curriculum thanks to the teachers efforts. The school itself operates quite literally like a business which is so pathetic considering you're being funded by the people. If you wanna gamble your education and wellbeing I recommend CVHS! read more

This school has not been good. Many math teachers here aren't very good at teaching. Other subjects are relatively average. The curriculum is pretty bad and not well organized. There are many teachers that are great, but many that are bad. My friend nearly failed Integrated 1 in the first semester because of some unhygienic teacher who apparently wore the same exact clothes each day. He also would give you a 0 on a test if you didn't do it his way. I'm so glad I didn't have him. The extracurricular programs are okay. I am in marching band and it was not the best. They didn't let me march one year because they apparently "didn't have any spots left." Which is probably the most dumbest excuse ever because people who were A LOT worse than me got to march, but I didn't. If you don't end up marching, you still need to show up, I have no problem with that, but they treat you like a worthless slave during competitions and you don't feel like you're in the band. Lunch isn't until 1:00pm and there are no short days. If you do 0 period, you are there for 8 hours a day with no early days. Apparently, someone was sexually assaulted in a serious way and the school only suspended the person. They were literally arrested and the school didn't bother to expel them. They don't even bother fixing the bathrooms in 700 hall, which really need to be fixed. There is some things that aren't even our fault. For example, the sinks rarely have running water. Most the school danced are boring and they don't let you leave. Most the school is outdated and has trash all over the place. There are NO FIELD TRIPS besides senior stuff, which is dumb because they lie and say there are plenty more. That is my brutally honest review. read more

I attended a JV baseball game here. It was absolutely terrible behavior by the Trojan baseball coaches and umpire: one of the Trojan players intentionally shoved a visiting player, and the umpire blamed the visiting team and kicked out the visiting player victim. Trojan parents were screaming at high schoolers, running up and getting in their face, as well as cursing at small children; however, Trojan security blamed the visitors for mischief and kept surveilling them as if they were the source of the trouble When only Trojan players and parents were the ones acting aggressive. Moreover, the umpire claimed to "not see" any bad behavior by the home team and frequently called in the home team's favor: strikes were flagged as "balls" and obvious tag-outs were called "safe". Out of dozens of baseball games I have attended at many schools, this school had the most corrupt and poor display of leadership with their coaches, umpire, and security. No integrity with their staff whatsoever. I feel sorry for the kids at CVHS who are learning from these sad, sorry examples of adults. read more

However, I recently had a disappointing experience with a staff member named Racheal, who is in charge of House 4. She had a very bad attitude and kept talking over us while we were trying to speak with her. She was rude, and I was shocked because this is the first time something like this has happened to us. This recommendation is strictly related to volleyball games. Went to see my daughter play last night, and boy was it a nightmare. Upon entering, a lady with beautiful blue eyes was working the ticket counter. You could immediately tell she hates her job just by her terrible attitude. I get inside, take my seat, and park my 1 years old (in a stroller) in the open space next to me. Yes, it was marked as a handicap/wheelchair space. Yes, I understand thoroughly that if needed by a wheelchair bound person, I am to move. Nobody was there at the time, so in my opinion, ok to use the space until/if needed. 40 minutes into the game, Mrs. blue eyes walks up to me with her funky attitude and says "you can't have that here, this space needs to be available for people in wheelchairs, and there's one coming in". Um, ok. No problem whatsoever, however her rude way of talking to me was not appreciated. After so long, my baby got restless sitting on my lap, so I had to get up and go stand in the only available open space, which was behind the volleyball court. Here she comes again. "You can't stand here, this needs to be open for people walking". Nobody was walking! I made it very clear, if someone needed to pass, or there was some type of emergency, I'd be out of the way immediately. I then asked, "with a very restless and mobile infant, what am I supposed to do?!" She shrugged her shoulders and curled her bottom lip at me, like I asked the dumbest question in America. Oh, and just to be more clear, so I don't sound like the rude one here, there's a "no in and out" policy. We were literally stuck inside the hot gym the entire time, with all the doors shut. And to think I was excited to go see my daughter's high school team (Granada) play at the high school I graduated from. read more

CV High what WHAT!?! Trojan pride (never go without protection). Class of 2002 representin'. Yee-uh. The best part of CV? CVHS Improv (I can only speak for pre-2002). The most talented, quirky, fantastically funny crew of people: Helen Nesteruk, Emilie Nebbia, Chris Vallely, Dan Finlay, Lilan Bowden, Shari Murphy, Erik Choy, Erik Nevalla-Lee, Jeremiah Dugger, Matt Dostal, Erin Yattaw, Kenton Dornbush, Cassy Whitney, Joe Hicken, and others who I'm sure I'm forgetting, but deserve mad props. Gotta love the following teachers: Mrs. Parris (the best teacher of my life), Mr. Unti, Mrs. Branaugh, Miss Frasca, Ms. Sutton, Mr. Maladnich, Mr. Petersen, Mr. Waldron, Mrs. Eldridge (best Math teacher), Mr. Souza, Ms. Cassidy, Ms. DaSilva, Sra. Brede (great person, not-so-good Spanish teacher), Sra. Rodriguez (GREAT Spanish teacher), now just a sub: Mr. Rodgers, and the new Mr. Jason Marlis. (Props to the past teachers: Annie Bogue and Ms. Stefaniuk. Its all about homecoming. Class of 2002 rocked song girls! We were disqualified (haters) cause our dance was too hot for the judges. But it went down in CV history. Hott. VIVA LA MASADA! Masada was our underground newspaper when I attended, edited and created by the amazing jew king, Jake Gellender. We fought the administration's attempts to clamp down on student's civil liberties like it was our last stand. In many ways, it was. A Mid-Summer Night's Dream was an incredible (he he) production that i was blessed enough to participate in (2002) with an incredibly talented cast. Word up to the Peaseblossom. read more

Oh what can i say been there done that? Of course I graduated from CVHS and it will always have special place in my heart. I had good times there. I met outstanding friends and my teachers were wonderful. I wonder if they are still there or would remember me? I think the schools In CV are great. Now that I am a mommy I plan on staying in CV forever just so my little get the benefit of a great education with teachers that care about them. I am a huge fan of the redesigned CVHS track and field. I walk there on the regular it really has spiffed up CVHS and dare I say it boring ass CV. It's open and bright always happening with activity and on the occasional Saturday morning its almost empty so you can get a walk in with out too many on lookers. read more

Back in 2004, Castro Valley High was a great high school. But now it's taken a turn for the worse. The administration seems to care more about sports than academics. Care to explain why we got a new football field and then ran out of paper? Every year I went, it seemed to get worse and worse. It just got way to crowded. I think I graduated with about 700 other people. As for teachers and counselors, it's pretty mixed. Some are just AWFUL and some are just really great. Unfortunately for 09 both senior counselors were just terrible and incompetent. I actually went to the career center for advice and help instead. A 2.5 score really matches CVHS better, but I'm giving it a two because I remember the people that went here. And they stand out the most. At least it's better than a lot of other places in the Bay Area.... read more

High school for me was a miserable experience, so I try to suppress recollection of CVHS. The one positive memory I have is of Anne Parris. She's a wonderful person and the best teacher I've ever had. I was in her Lit & Film class but the real impact she made on me came from our conversations during the lunch period. Edit: Mr. Peterson! Went to parent teacher night and got to meet all of my daughters teachers and they are so up to date on all of the different ways to communicate with the parents to ensure your students succeed. This review is not about cookies or about choir and has to do with the overall school (like it suppose to be). Castro Valley High School is a real mixed bag. I would say 80% of the teachers are great. It seems like they really care, they really know what they are doing. I had a wonderfully experience with the teachers at CVHS. The biggest problem I have at this school is the administration. They are too damn buerocratic and talking to the teachers you can really notice the divide between administrators and teachers. I still don't understand how we have money for a million dollar field but we don't have money for paper. If you went to CVHS between 04-08 you can probably remember a few blundrs of the administration 1. Remember the flag insident on how wearing an American Flag to school was considered 'raciest'. (that really pissed me off) if you don't know about it and want to know, email me. 2. Remember the lockdown and how poorly managed that was? I would say one of the Best Departments at CVHS is the foreign language department. This school really offers a great selection of foreign languages like: Spanish, French, German, ASL, chinese (i think) and Japanese. Technology at CVHS is really lacking. The system is not compertizedto modern standards. Overall, you will get a good education here but you can also easily slack off and still get a diploma. read more

My experience at CVHS was mostly positive. It's a hit or miss with the teachers, but by far the BEST (and the ones who prepared me most for college) were Mr. Goldstein (History), Ms. Clyde (English), Ms. Andersen (German), Ms. Anderson (Health, Med Careers), and Mr. Bahm (Economics). CVHS in general has a great office staff (especially the House Office ladies!) The spirit week, dances, football games, and clubs were all great experiences! Review based on the Track... great track & field facility! The facility is on par or better than most colleges in the bay area. You would never think all of that was for a high school. I could run endless laps on their well kept cushion track. And I use to drive all the way to San Mateo High (4 stars) to run on their track but I just recently discovered CVHS is open to the public. Driving by you wouldn't think so since it has that grand arched entryway, but looks locked, on Redwood Rd. but if you pull into the lot and park towards the south end you'll find the open gate. I love that I live one mile down the road. CVHS: My new favorite running spot when I'm tired of the treadmill. read more

for someone who sang the alma mater at our high school graduation and f*cked up the whole choir... the least i can do is give good ol CVHS 4 stars. cvhs is simple: cowboys, pot heads, and 3 black people. really though, on a serious note, there are a few things about this little school that make it quite cool. first off, the diversity has increased, my brother is in 10th grade and one NEW thing I just found out is that there is no longer a homecoming queen and king, it is now homecoming "court" the gay/straight alliance club spoke up and said the transsexuals might get offended. to my knowledge there are no transsexuals currently enrolled at CVHS, but good looking out. they also just spent a ton of money building a theatre and re doing the football field. MUCH to everyone's surprise the theatre came FIRST. huge wow! lastly, there are some great teachers who left an impression no matter how hard i tried to ignore them. I love coming to here to run track with the hubby! I love the cork screw track that they have. Clean, family oriented, friendly place to run. Great for bleachers too if you want to use these. It's nice to come here after work sometimes and while running the track you see a bunch of the high school students practicing for football, track, and other sports. read more

My daughter absolutely LOVES CV High and as a parent, I do too. The school has amazing camaraderie and spirit, is API ranked as a High Achieving School and a California Distinguished School (top 5% of California high schools), and has awesome sports and activity programs. The supportive CV Community recently passed Measure G which includes some very nice improvements for CV High. The football field, track and stadium are gorgeous, as is, the Performing Arts Center. We are looking forward to our son attending next year and to the improvements/expansion Measure G will fund. Love our CV schools. read more

Back in 1967 I lived directly on the line that sent you To Canyon High School. Had I lived 10ft over I would have gone to CV High with ALL my childhood friends. Canyon had an experimental modular system which I failed at. Too much free time. All my buds who went to CV High grew up Happy & Succesful. The system sucked. As a student at this school for the past four years, I feel my input on this school can be accounted for. Since the start of my freshman year to my senior year, I have had the worst experiences with the staff at this school. For starters, I am an honor student and have been all four years. Whenever I stumbled upon an issue or concern and took it up to the office for assistance, I received a great deal of apathetic responses from counselors, assistant principals, finance offices and other staffing groups, including teachers. A majority of these individuals display an appearance in which they believe students are not credible enough to assert their concerns. For instance, a parent needs to contact the school in order for a students concern to be addressed. As a student, you're often thrown to the side or told a sarcastic remark as a way to solve your problem. This type of behavior, in my opinion at least, is completely unprofessional and can negatively affect a student. I cannot gather the amount of times where I entered the office with a situation or matter, and exited with it unresolved. To say the least, a majority of the staff is very unprofessional to students, as well as disrespectful. I must add that the students at this school, however, are very astounding, inspiring, and amazing people that you can make lifelong friendships with. read more

I Hated HS with a passion. CVHS was okay for a high school, but I hated the people there. It seems like a lot of reviewers on here didnt like their high school experience as well.. The cowboys took over a whole area during lunch time and they would always make remarks whenever people walked by. They would drive up to school in their over-sized blazers sporting the confederate flag. Some of the teachers were nice while others accused you of being high. I get really bad allergies and my eyes swell up and get red. How does that constitute me being high? I never got high a day in my life while I was in HS. A few of the teachers would come up with nick names for the students and I dont really remember them being all too helpful. Granted, I did graduate from there about 10 years ago, so I do hope the teachers have gotten a little better. Mr. Morrison is a huge jerk who thrived on getting students in trouble. read more
