went to visit with some kittens a couple weeks ago! They are so nice here-- way nicer than any other shelter I've been to in Baton Rouge (although I wouldn't consider this a "shelter"), they let you walk around to any cage you want and get whatever kitten (but the ones who are already adopted cannot be held), I held William and I loved him! So sad I couldn't adopt him but I'll definitely be back whenever I want kitten cuddles!

I got a little kitten named Muse for my christmas present and he's absolutely perfect he's the perfect fit. he already knows how to use a liter box, he's chipped and fixed so that's great that i don't have to do that. he has such a great little personality and is a wild child and we both love him so much already. thank you cat haven!

I love Cat Haven's paw prints all over the parking lot!

I love coming here for cat therapy! I used to have cats and miss them terribly so this was my second time coming in for cat therapy. Walking towards the building, there's cute purple paw prints all over the parking lot! There was a sweet black cat that was in the shade under a car. That cat is named Buddy so don't forget to give it a pet on the head before heading in! Walking in, you gotta use hand sanitizer as you enter each room with cats in them, as they have plenty of rooms with different cats of all ages and types. Lovely staff that I met and one of them had a deep love for a female Siamese cat. Definitely recommend if you love cats to come by! Maybe not so much if you have a cat allergy! Love coming to Cat Haven, and if you can, you can volunteer there as well!

Oliver loves to hide and watch me go about my day!

If you're looking to adopt a dog from Friends of the Animals, PLEASE READ!!! This past week, we…read morevisited this location to meet a dog we had seen online. When we met him, he was extremely well behaved and tame. After a second meeting, we filled out all applicable paperwork and brought him home. After getting him home, his behavior gradually became worse, and he began showing signs of aggression when around food, toys, etc. He would jump on tables and run off with entire plates of food, and then growl and snap when you try to get him away. The first evening, after this establishment had closed, we received a call from Adoption Coordinator Paula stating that while we had met him, he had been sedated with Trazodone. This is extremely manipulative and dangerous. The dog we had met eight hours prior was a completely different dog than the one that was wreaking havoc on my home and terrorizing my family. He bit my wife on the back of the arm, and tried biting me on the hand while trying to get things out of his mouth. Nothing was left out for him. He would climb chairs onto to tables, would grab decorations off of low-level shelves, and then would run around snapping at anyone who would try to take said objects. Turns out a human-sized dose of sleeping medication really tempers an aggressive dog. We were told he had been house trained and did great sleeping on his own. His actions show he does not know how to behave in a house, and as far as sleeping arrangements go, we couldn't sleep in our bedroom because he would just bark at the door all night. I brought all this up when we, unfortunately, had to bring him back. The response: "We're going to work on that." Honesty and transparency isn't something you work on, it's just something you do. As far as the fees go, we were inconvenienced with a check from a bank we don't use; I'm not sure why the original payment method couldn't be used. All in all, this has been a terrible experience. Above all else, I feel bad for the dogs. Kept in kennels, medicated, and then placed in homes whose owners are manipulated into believing they've gotten themselves a completely different pet. This is a true disgrace to animal rescues everywhere.

We love our #CAAWS dog. I have read some reviews here that are negative. I will share my…read moreexperience. We have had our dog for about 5 years now. This dog , who CAAWS actually rescued from a kill shelter, was a shy, slightly reticent dog. Sabra ,who is a school teacher and a volunteer at CAAWS, helped me to choose " Austin" ( their name). During this same time, I was tending to my Mom( she has since passed on ) and was helping my family in Virginia. Keep in mind , CAAWS does have a screening process, and for a very good reason. These animals, at least many, have not had " happy" lives, and some are recovering from abuse or neglect . They want to make sure that you will be a loving and responsible pet owner. I am fortunate that our son helps to take care of our dog if and when we must leave town. Owning a pet is a responsibility, and a healthy dog needs more than food , water and trips to the vet ... they need love , tenderness, regular exercise and to insure that CAAWS dogs are matched to a suitable owner, yes, they are very careful with whom they place these deserving pets. Make room in your home and heart for a life time of unconditional love. I know that there are many people who love dogs as much as I do. Our dog did require some dental work , and because of this, we now are very careful about how we care for his remaining teeth . We have friends who have become volunteers there, and I know that the adoption process may seem " detailed"... but CAAWS loves to see their pets find a fur ever home. I highly recommend going to meet these deserving pets. Adoptions can be arranged to suit your schedule. In our case, we met our dog, filled out the necessary paperwork and had a two week trip. When we came home, we were able to adopt our dog... he is a very lovable canine, and having him in our life also enriched us in many ways. He was with us when we had to be rescued from the August 2016 flood... and has been a joy through the many storms since then. When we needed to move into an apartment in 2016, he was also a joy, and his personality is friendly and thankfully, he isn't into barking unnecessarily. I highly recommend CAAWS, their caring volunteers, their fees are kept low... and all of their animals ( dogs, cats) love being adopted. Sabra, and other volunteers, do a great job. We love " Chase", who used to be " Austin"... thank you to all #CAAWSvolunteers #CAAWS has a Facebook page... thank you!

Magic Happens isn't a traditional shelter or pet store operation. This is a breed-specific rescue…read morethat focuses on all the cutest little wabbits! (And a few other small friends like guinea pigs!) Run by a woman named Wendy, the bunnies of Magic Happens are pampered and primped in foster homes all over the southern Louisiana area. When a prospective adopter pages through the Petfinder.com listings to find their perfect little bun, Wendy is quick to invite them out to meet their prospective pet. Most email communication occurs in the evenings because Magic Happens isn't Wendy's primary job, but she treats all the bunnies (and other small things) like they are her #1 priority. A word, if I may, about bunnies as pets: Rabbits are quirky, intelligent animals that need more than a small hutch in the backyard. They're smart enough to litter train, and they're long-lived enough to rival cats. In fact, rabbits are a lot like cats in terms of intelligence, interest in their surroundings, and life-span. Rabbits aren't "just a few years" pets, and neither are cats. Both are worthwhile investments, and both animals can add so much to the family. Want the cutest wake-up ever? Bunny. Sitting on your chest. Back to the review... Our family needed one more guinea pig to be complete, and Wendy was patient as we chatted about personalities and care histories. (Hot tip: guinea pigs are herd animals! Get your pig a same-sex or neutered friend.) We emailed for three weeks, and twice rides were arranged between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. (One of the pigs was mis-sexed and not a girl, as promised. Hot tip: NEVER TRUST THE PET STORE EMPLOYEE. VERIFY THE SEX OF YOUR ANIMAL.) Wendy and all the folks at Magic Happens are committed to making sure the animal that comes into your life is a forever pet, perfectly matched to your family and your needs. One of the biggest perks of adopting from a rescue is that the animal is already known, and Magic Happens is no exception. Want a snuggler? Yep. Or a loner? Yep. Exactly.

ANDERMAN ANIMAL CLINIC - Gonzales LA…read more UNPROFESSIONAL & THREATENED ME!!! I took my 13 yo POM for euthanasia in November 2025 and they left us in the room for 30 min unsupervised after giving him the first shot. They had told us they would be back in 10 min to give the final injection. My dog wound up having a heart attack due to their negligence as they waited too long! He was thrashing and screaming at the top of his lungs!! My BFF (who had her mother's dog put to sleep ~ 1 month before (smooth) & my son were with us and they ran out the door yelling to find help. After 5+ min (about 15+ by the time they got his final shot administered), they wound up giving him additional shots (yes multiple - at least 2 more) to finally put him down, but not before standing in my face and repetitively & continuously asking me if "I wanted them to help me," as I cried hysterically trying to calm my baby! "Of course," I replied, "that's why I'm here in the first place," as we all tried to calm my dog! Over the next week plus, I received a call from his actual vet there (West), who was sencere, apologetic and talked for almost an hour, heard me out and explained what had happened and told me we would work through this together; to call her anytime I was upset in the future, as I had to go to the doctor for myself after all that. I also received a sympathy card from the entire staff. I was in a VERY Bad Way for over a month and still have issues, but needed let it all go. FF to today 5/20/26 (6 mo) - to my absolute shock, I contacted then to take my son's dog in & made an appointment. The receptionist booked me right away and we hopped in the car. Once almost there, I received a call from Dr. Anderman herself and the conversation goes pretty much as follows: Me: Yes, this is Melissa (while driving and supporting a dog with a hurt leg). Anderman: We won't be able to see you as we're severing the relationship between us. "IF YOU DRIVE UP ON THIS PROPERTY, I WILL CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE YOU ARRESTED!" M: Are you serious? A: Yes, you yelled at and threatened my staff. (Which I did in NO terms do!!) M: Wait a minute, I need to pull over! Y'all left us in the room and my dog had a heart attack and no one could be found. I cant believe this; my son's dog is hurting and you just threatened me while I'm driving! A: I didn't threaten you. We are ending our relationship and if you show up you will be arrested!! M: You didn't think to let me know this back then? No problem, I'll find another vet! Glad to know they think a 60 yo, disabled woman is such a threat. BTW, my son's dog is okay now. Thanks for reading & proceed with caution!! Shame on Anderman!!! M
