I had a pleasent stay in Barcelona - the hotel was neither making it "worse" nor did it particularly contribute to the great time I had in the city. General observations: The rooms were very tidy and clean and the cleaning staff was really attentive and made a good job presenting a nice room when getting back in the evening. However, the rooms are quite clairaudient and it there were little things that made me ask, why they say they have four stars.
One evening, someone dropped something every five minutes and I could hear it very clearly (probably because of the parquet flooring). At the night of my arrival, I could listen to a couple having sex nearly as if I would stay right beside the bed. It did not particularly bother me as all the other times, I could have a good rest. The bed was nice and comfy and the view from the terrace was really fantastic. Additionally, I am very happy if hotels don't do a big fuzz about giving a kingsize bed double room to two young guys. But compared to other 4-star-hotels I've been to, I just don't get the 4 stars. They do meet the official spanish minimum requirements for room size and facilities, but not more than that.
One of the little things that bothered me: In the lobby and in the elevator, they displayed the pool opening hours. Unfortunately, it's only open till October (as I was told when asking), but I was there in November. One day, the door was open because of maintenance reasons, so I sneaked on the rooftop. It was so warm and nice up there - I do not understand why they shut down the whole rooftop. You could chill there with a book and enjoy the sun even without a running pool.
Checkin and Checkout went well. I stayed there three nights, I arrived at one o'clock in the night and left at around 11 in the morning. Checkout time is at twelve - if you arrive late, you should not rely on your booking website having it transferred to them. But at they have a 24/7 reception I guess there would be not problem. Another good thing about reception: I did not want to have the paying process dealt with being in company, so I asked to pay the bill beforehand via credit card. The procedure was quite complicated (send in copies of credit card, ID plus a signed and scanned assignment), but the support was really really quick and within one day, everything was paid. All I had to do was pick up the room key and go to sleep.
It's not exactly in the center of the town (around 15 Minutes door-to-door from Placa Catalanya), but it is in 10 minute walking distance to the famous Park Guell.
My conclusion: You can't expect a 4-star-service, but if you get a web offer like me for around 60 € a night inclusively terrace, it's still a good deal. Still, I wouldn't book again there and rather look for a better rated three-star hotel. read more
