Catamount came to my home yesterday to remove 4 sick crabapple trees and some overgrown shrubs. I had been given a very reasonable quote for the work previously, and I paid exactly the price quoted. Justin and his crew arrived on time, as promised. They were polite and professional, explaining every step of the work as it was being done. The tree removal was performed quickly and safely. The trees were mulched afterward; and I was asked whether I wanted to keep the mulch, which I did. Catamount even cleaned up the fallen leaves after the trees were removed. We have a large construction project starting soon on our property, and the contractor was worried about negotiating cement trucks and materials down our mile-long dirt driveway, which winds through thick woods. A couple of years ago, we hired Catamount Tree Service to remove a few large, compromised trees in our yard that were threatening one of our cabins, and we were so happy with Justin's abilities and expertise on that job that we called him to give us an estimate on removing trees on either either side of the driveway to "clean it up" and widen the road for the trucks. He and his helper Sam spent a week on the driveway taking down trees, clearing brush, and delivering wood chips to our yard for my husband to use as mulch around his apple trees and in the garden. They worked their butts off for five days and finished the job by the end of the week, as promised. Yesterday our contractor came over to meet with us and the solar guy about the project, and both of them were blown away by what Justin and Sam had accomplished. The contractor isn't worried at all now about the transport of construction materials down the driveway. Not only are Justin and his crew nice young men who are sincere, hard-working, and professional, they're also fun to hang out with. My husband brews beer, so after the job wrapped on Friday we had them in for a brew sampling, and we had a great visit. I recently hired Justin Hale of Catamount Tree Service in Cabot to remove seven trees that were standing deadwood or blowdowns that were safety/access issues. He responded immediately to my request for an in-person estimate, and put my job into his schedule once we had agreed on the scope of work/price and he had received my deposit. It took him a bit longer to get to me due to several emergency jobs intervening (how terrific to know that he is able to respond to emergency calls as well!). I got a message from him the day before he was able to schedule me, and he and his helper, Taylor, arrived with their equipment (truck towing a trailer with small tractor, and truck with box/dump capacity towing hefty chipper) promptly the next morning. Justin and I reviewed the work to be done while Taylor got equipment set up, and the two of them went at it for the next 5-6 hours until the job was complete. They cleaned up after themselves, and were REALLY GOOD guys to work with. In the weeks since they were here, I have taken some time to look carefully and notice details about the work that they did, so I could write a review that was accurate and true, for their benefit, and the benefit of anyone who might consider hiring them to do work. Justin climbs the trees and cuts, and Taylor is the man on the ground who helps make sure the cuts go exactly where Justin wants them to go. They work effectively as a team with minimal equipment (chainsaw, ropes, and climbing gear) to fell trees, limb and buck, or skid (with the tractor) as needed, and clean up the inevitable mess by running branches through the chipper, then finish up with a strong leaf blower. Justin and Taylor did an amazing job skidding a huge hemlock artfully into the woods, setting bucked logs and larger brush aside with care, were able to put a load of wood chips where I needed it, and opened up some beautiful space around the house. I got a good pile of mixed chips/twigs/leaves to use as mulch in my garden - really good quality eco-material like forest floor. Also noticed they were very contentious about leaving an area as clean as they found it, which seems totally fair; if the space around a tree is as neat as a pin they will leave it as neat as a pin, if a bit more hairy, they'll leave it that way too, minus tree removal detritus. Beneath the safety gear and badass sunglasses are two very bright, observant, thoughtful, and kind young men who care a great deal about providing quality work for a fair price, which they do admirably. I've had a lot of tree work done in my lifetime, and have done some of it myself. It's hard work, and sometimes pretty dangerous, definitely messy and uncomfortable even in the best of situations. The pricing of the work was completely fair, in my opinion. I'm quite satisfied with the work they did, and am happy that I've found a good team to help take care of the trees I live with every day. This is a bit delayed, but had work done by them last year, and definitely happy. I had two other estimates done for the same job, and his estimate blew the other companies out of the water. The other companies touted big huge lift trucks and expensive equipment, and it was clear as the customer you are paying for their equipment. They arrived on time, were super professional, and were very thorough. They removed one tree from the front yard, and trimmed back two other trees that have large canopies over my house. Everything was done in one day, the yard was cleaned, wood chipped and removed, and even got some great advice about caring for the remaining trees on my property.
