Seeing a boat, but no land
    Michelle P.

So I'm not from here and I thought I was simply going on a bridge from Covington to New Orleans. However, I was wrong. I knew it was a long bridge, but I didn't know it was this long. Actually, it is the longest bridge in the US above water. Also, when I hit around the 8th mile mark, I looked behind me and I couldn't see any land then I didn't see any land looking forward. It's not a high bridge which is a relief, but it is two lanes in each direction without any shoulders. There are turn around points, if a person panics. The ride back was a little bit easier because I knew there was an end in site. There is a $5 toll heading South into New Orleans from Covington, but not a toll heading North.

Who knew that you could review the actual Toll Plaza and the bridge? Normally I wouldn't review both, but I have some things to say. 1. It is a toll plaza. That means you have to pay a toll. Be prepared so that I do not have to wait any longer than necessary. 2. If there is fog, there will be people yelling at you to turn on your headlights. 3. If there is fog, and a convoy, prepare to wait. The convoys and lane restrictions on the causeway are some of the most frustrating things about living on the Northshore. 4. Toll Tags - get one, save money. It's that simple. 5. Toll collectors- Theses people are friendly, awesome and make the commute a little better. Make sure you are nice too them. 6. Barricades - If you are drunk and the mayor, don't hit them. It will bring a world of misery on everyone involved. I think that about sums up what I have to say.

    Re H.

I never have a problem here. I pay with cash. I try to have correct change. I always make sure I prepare before I get there. The toll person smiles at me, I say hello. Toll person says hello too. I had a 20$ dollar bill to pay for my toll once. Toll person, swiftly hands me my change (because they prepared for clowns like me) I don't have a problem driving to the North shore. I like driving to the North Shore. My son and I have science lessons in the car on the way to the North Shore. And I don't mind paying the toll, My son recently asked why we needed to pay a toll. I said so they can take care of the bridge. He said, that's smart. I agree.

Toll plaza to get on the bridge heading south.

The toll is only paid heading south on the Causeway Bridge. The toll booth operators are friendly enough, though I am curious. What makes one apply, get hired and keep this position? I'm assuming these people are employed by the city of Mandeville. Maybe by the state. I'm not sure. Any way. It's $3 to head 20+ miles south on a bridge with no shoulders that will make sounds to lull you to sleep. It is nice if you have exact change, but they seem to have change ready for almost any denomination of bill. The largest bill I've tried is a $20. The one time they did not collect the toll was during a bad storm. I'm assuming they didn't want to get wet. The only gender neutral restrooms (or restrooms at all) are the port-a-johns on the crossovers, but you will be harassed by the police that sit there if you stop.

Bugs after driving the causeway tonight

Toll to head South is $3. They are always fast. If you live in the area, it's worth it to get a tag that is mounted to your windshield.

Does the iPass work to cross bridge?

The Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission does issue toll tags for the causeway, no other toll tags work.

Back in 2018 I sent the Mandeville police department video of an incident and many documents…read morerelative to a retired Texas cop of 25 years who battered me in Mandeville on 8-31-2018. He also lied on the police report many times and I sent their team detailed information and a video of the incident documenting this fact. I have stage 4 cancer metastasis in my spine. I am a fall risk and I could have been severely injured. I said nothing to this unsafe retired cop to provoke him. In fact he came towards me and SLAPPED my hands really hard and said "don't you touch me!" He tried to start something. He then grabbed my shirt and pushed me backwards about 20 feet into some equipment. I almost fell. I inquired about filing charges against this man with MPD. No one would respond to my return receipt certified letters and video. They closed the case! This unsafe retired cop from Texas is walking around Scott free. Battery is a crime. I also filed an addendum to the police report that refuted the lies via video. These LOW INTEGRITY cops took out the addendum. The raw report makes me look bad and wrong. Thank you MPD for your following of the laws and fairness. TYPICAL. These same cops were allowing a business owner to illegally park their vehicles in the State right-of-way and in the horizontal sight distance triangle. I made a complaint with LADOTD to try and fix this unsafe problem. You couldn't see around vehicles at this business when pulling out of adjacent driveways!!! LADOTD posted NO PARKING signs out front of this business. These cops still allowed these defiant people to park in the right-of-way even after the District traffic engineer told the owners on 3 separate occasions that they couldn't park there. MPD was VERY aware of these contacts via emails. Maps and documents were sent to the appropriate parties and it now "seems" like the law is now being obeyed contrary to MPD's warped stance. I was at a local grocery store. I was calling these cops to tell them that a man was illegally parking in the fire lane. The man that was in the fire lane threatened to punch me in the nose, because I called the police. I filed a complaint with these cops about this incident. I gave them his out of State license plate. The plate number was wrong so no tie could be made to the law breaker. Well two weeks later I see this same man at the grocery store. I call these cops again. The new cop takes down the license plate number and eventually gives it to the cop that took my original complaint. The original cop did not follow through & contact the lawbreaker for threatening me. He said that the out of State plate number was one character off from the original plate number I gave him. YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME??!! I told him that was the guy! That had to be the correct plate number. ONE CHARACTER OFF?! HE NEVER followed through. TYPICAL MPD BEHAVIOR. I file complaints against these cops for poor driving habits etc. I post some videos of this inappropriate behavior online. I believe they don't feel they have to treat citizens fairly and appropriately if they file complaints or don't like most cops in general. MPD IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED.

I was booked at the station, and released with a new court date. The arresting officer was very cordial, and laughed at all my cop jokes. He was very apologetic for a few clerical problems they had within their system and office equipment, and made sure I was comfortable while I was there. 10/10 would get arrested by MPD again.

There were not too many people here the day we came. Wide open spaces, a couple of places to eat nearby. I would like to come back if there are events in the future as it seems like a lot of things to do here. A community market, holiday events and events with the LPO. The bike trail leads from one end of St Tammany Parish to the other end in an east to west fashion. I am looking forward to coming and enjoying all that this area has to offer. I have no spawn of my own, but there is plenty of room for play time. Evidently the area is closed up at night, which is comforting.

The Mandeville Trailhead is a great little place in downtown old Mandeville…read more The trailhead has an amphitheater for performance, a splash area for kids and hosts numerous events. The splash area is a must attend during the hot summer months. There is a large fountain shooting water out of numerous holes in the ground where kids can splash and rollick in the cool water. Parents can bring a chair and sit back and relax while their kids expend all of their energy. There is also a trailhead museum which is pretty neat. The museum is kept quite cool so it is a nice break from the hot sun as well. Inside there is a model of the old Mandeville Lakefront wooden slide and beach area. The museum focuses on old Mandeville history ad I was able to learn many things about this area that I had not previously known. If you're in the area, this trailhead should definitely be on your list of places to see.
