It also stopped a wedding party getting in, 2 senior citizens and 2 lads who must have been 40. But they did let in a lady who was so so very drunk she needed help up the steps, was pole dancing on a pillar and generslly falling over. But she did have photo ID so it's clearly fine. Afterasll, Policy is Policy! The decor inside is fine. The outside courtyard area curiously reminds me of a village train station platform.

The oyster aperitif shots came in a real oyster shell and were filled with mini popper boba balls. The color changing drinks were smoking and filled with nitrogen ice. The non-alcoholic drink even came with a lollipop and would be perfect for any age. The drinks were delicious and definitely drank way too quickly. The service and waitress could not have been more welcoming, fun, and hospitable. Definitely put the Alchemist on your list when traveling to the UK. With many locations, you can expect a fun drink and an even better experience all throughout the country.

It consists of a basement, ground floor and upstairs, none of which are particularly spacious, but it's one of those places that no one minds rubbing shoulders with the next person. The music ranges from 60s onwards, and there is a jukebox that everyone seems to make use of, as well as some old fashioned sweet and nut machines - 20p for a handful of pistachios and then you can cause murder throwing the shells at people! Not somewhere for a lively night out, but at the same time, not always the best place for a quiet chat, especially as they tend to have the music quite loud. Still, if you want your Beatles fix and you're nowhere near Mathew Street or the docks, this is a good alternative.

For example, the last time I was there I was on a cocktail night with a group of girlfriends I hadn't seen for a while, and we were waiting patiently at a crowded bar at around midnight on a Friday. Next thing, this mid-to-late-30s guy cut between me and my friend as if trying to get through the crowd. The people around him attempted to give him some space, at which point he immediately elbowed his way to the front of the bar. He then leaned over the bar and thrust a wrinkled fiver in the hand of the nearest barman and said "I'm being served next". The barman attempted to explain that there were various other groups of people who had been waiting, and continued to serve the group he was with. And then he served this idiot. At this point, everyone around started tutting and I suggested in an undertone that we all tip our multi-coloured cocktails over his pristine white shirt. He is the reason I don't go to Alma on a weekend. Having said that, the decor is amazing, as it is an old church that has retained its altar and structure, but been glammed up with antler chandeliers and candles and dark and glamorous furniture. The cocktails are lovely if not a little pricey (mostly over £5 for the simplest) and the music is eclectic. There is also a restaurant upstairs which serves the standard small-servings-nicely-arranged-on-large-plates type food, and if you get there at the right time there is confetti thrown from the balconies and Cuban dancing girls entertaining everyone. On a weekday it is quieter and nicer and you don't feel so bad for not wearing the latest fashion trends. You can also see the bar from where you are sat. Overall, it's definitely somewhere I would recommend if you have never been, but only if you have the patience of a saint on a weekend!

The prices of this dark pub seem to be based on adding all holiday prices together and if the cost of your drink ends with 99p, you can expect the barmaid to just keep the penny without asking. Even though I'm off on holiday and have no need for one stirling penny, I still want the damn thing. It's the principle. I also don't like the idea of taking my belt off and shoving my belongings through an x-ray machine just to drink. Yes, that's the exact reason they made me do that.

The Cavern in Liverpool is of course home to The Beatles. It is situated on Matthew Street in Liverpool City Centre. It is world famous and many visitors flock to the venue from every part of the globe. Each time I have been there are visitors from Japan, France, Spain and many more all taking as many photographs as they can! Its dark inside and there are a lot of stairs to get inside, all spiralling downwards, as after all it is underground! There is memorabilia all over the place and you will see live music every day and night. Its a great atmosphere, especially when you hear a band playing The Beatles music, its quite surreal standing in The Cavern dancing away to Beatles tunes! Makes you feel like you are right back there with them. The toilets arent the best and are a bit grotty so its not somewhere you will dress smartly for. Drinks are cheap. It does get very busy when certain bands perform so you may have a wait at the bar. All in all its a great place for a few drinks and to see a bit of music history. read more

We were at cavern club a few weeks ago and it is a great place to go, we loved everything about the club, and I also happily dispelled a few myths about the todays cavern club which i'd believed for a very long time. Todays cavern club is in fact built on its original site,(well 75% anyway) on 10 Mathew street, the 60's cavern was also on 10 Mathew street. There is indeed a cavern pub over the road but that is something entirely different, even on this review board people are posting that todays club is not on its original site but over the road, wrong! it stands on 10 Mathew street today as it always has, this was great news to me, at least the city council got that right. Although a tourist trap, on our recent visit to Liverpool, we HAD to visit! They seem to have live bands on most nights, usually doing some Merseybeat stuff (which we like). The crowd seems to be a mix of tourists and locals, which was very nice. They have a range of merchandise for sale, as well as a lot of memorabilia displayed throughout. Also, there can often be a big queue to get in, so expect to wait and even be turned away at the door if you don't look smart enough. I would give 0 if I could…read more While the building is accessible, their policies are not. Do not bother if you are a wheelchair user and need reasonable adjustments. Their answer is no. I needed to take an umbrella large enough to cover myself and powered wheelchair in torrential rain (for comfort and safety due to it being electric). Their answer - no. I needed to take water so I could take medication. Their answer - no (I spent £8 on tiny cans of water so I had enough to do this). There was just ONE accessible toilet (other was out of order). The queue in the interval was full of non-disabled people who openly said they were using it so they didn't have to bother queuing for the ladies. This meant the only 2 wheelchair users at the back of the queue didn't even use the toilet until the show started again after the interval. The seats have ok viewing, but it is hugely ruined by teams of security marching past like prison guards in gangs constantly brushing past you. Very intimidating and unpleasant. When people got out their phone (even to check the time) staff hit/banged them on their heads to stop! Food - it says there will be food served. There were a couple of bars of nestle chocolate (£2.50 a bar!), and munchies, and mint aero balls. If you can't eat nestle - you can't eat anything. The whole ordeal was horrible. I tried to ring numerous times for reasonable adjustments and the phones were off. I contacted the box office via email and they were unhelpful throughout, refusing to make any reasonable adjustments and saying the security might make reasonable adjustments for your disability and safety - but they might not, and if not you will be sent away. The whole thing was AWFUL. Worse experience I have ever had at a venue. They openly breach the Equality Act and don't care at all. I tried to complain and they didn't care - and reaffirmed they don't make reasonable adjustments for disabled people (and if they do this will only be done on arrival at the securities discretion - and they might say no). 0/10.
