I had requested no cucumbers and they were happy to comply. My playing partners seemed to enjoy their meals also. The restaurant was busy with many other golfers waiting out the rain. Unfortunately, it started raining a lot harder while we were eating and then came the hail and wind. We never made it out to the golf course. We would have needed a canoe to get around out there. Played 18 holes here, first nine at Parkland, last nine at Forest…read more It was corporate golf tournament and I was coming from the states that morning and wasn't bringing any clubs with me so I called twice in advance to see if they could set aside some lefty women's clubs for me. They said sure and took my name. When I got there, about 1/2 hour before our start, they told me they don't have any lefty women's clubs at all... and it wasn't that they ran out-- they just didn't have any! That was frustrating since I had called ahead to check. Lefties never get any love! They did have one set but it was graphite and it might have been mens, which is probably why they said it would be heavier, but I didn't have any problems with it considering it was a one time rental. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and gave our group towels to keep our cart seats dry in the rain. The course is just beautiful with a variety of Par 3, 4 and 5's and the weather improved for us as we played. Nice locker rooms and facilities at the club house. They do cater on site although the food was just decent and nothing to get excited about. I believe this is a members only club so, if you're in the Toronto area and can get a member to include you, this is a great stop for a day of golf.

The course wasn't in great shape, the tee boxes were terrible but it is an excellent golf course for a tournament with average or novice golfers. We were the lead off team and finished in 3 hours 40 minutes. The lunch afterwards was very well organized. Feeding us all promptly. Beginner golfers? Great place to learn. PGC is a farmer's field course, located next to the auction house barn off Brock Rd. The city has…read morerecently sold off the back 9 of this course and it's now a 9 hole course, part of the east GTA Bruce's Golf Reward program. It's $25 including a cart which makes for fantastic value. The condition of the course was decent. I'm not a big fan of the layout as the pathways cross back and forth which causes for quite a bit of traffic on a few holes. Be careful where you park your car as the parking lot is only a few yards from hole #2's green! The set up on Hole #5, a 140ish par 3 over a valley, leaves only 5 yards to a low fence at the back of the green. Some folks are just plopping it over the fence to get a free lift. I tried to play it legit, but topped my ball into the valley, then pitching blind over the hill and over the fence anyways. Bah! Hole #8 is ridiculous. You have to carry 202 over a wide and sunken bunker on a par 3 where the clearing to the green is maybe 30 yards wide surrounded by forest. If you can't hit a ball long and straight, you're going to lose a few balls. I decided to take a 3 iron into the bunker and then try and blast out. Unless I'm getting a lot of wind, I'm not sure how I'd carry over the bunker and land on the green or drive the green with a wood and not roll through. Not the prettiest or fanciest place, but it's cheap and adequate. Hmmm kinda like my last date.

Cherry Downs Golf and Country Club has been around for a very long time, notoriously known for…read moreridiculously fast greens. Once private, it is now a public course under the ClubLink umbrella. There are LOTS of mature trees, creeks, and ponds, waiting to swallow your ball. Changes in elevation make club selection crucial. Hitting your approach shot past the hole could make your next shot very tricky. Don't let the Par 71, 6,026 yards fool you. All of these factors can bite you before you know it. On this occasion, I was co-hosting a small golf tournament (28 players), with dinner following in the restaurant. The weather was near-perfect, with just a little cloud cover to prevent us from getting burned. Despite a minor hiccup with registration at the beginning, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We got everything sorted out to everybody's satisfaction. Our starter, Michael, was great at pacing us off the first tee and giving everybody, especially first-timers, tips on where they should be aiming. Marshals checked with us several times during the round. After seeing the scores at the end of the round, it appears that not many people took Michael's advice. The scores were abnormally high, even from the players that have been here before. After golf, we had a nice BBQ dinner on the patio overlooking the 18th green. The menu included crudite, salads, burgers, sausages, and desserts. There was more than enough food for everybody and it tasted pretty good. I had arrived early, before the tournament, to have breakfast with my co-host and another friend. The breakfast portions are quite generous and the meals were prepared well. I'll be back (even if it's just to find all the balls I left out there)...

Don't expect anything too fancy.. everything is kinda straight outta the 70s and kept that way, so it feels like a bit of time warp. The golf course itself is ok. Not super long, nor super challenging, but fun enough. Great for newer golfers. Course is also flat enough that it's a good walk in the park.

If you decide to walk it, prepare to track a lot of mud on your pull cart and golf shoes. The first few holes are a land mine of geese poo, like a public restroom for geese to do their business. If you're a clean freak and want to keep your trunk clean, you might want to pony up and get a golf cart to save the hassle. It's a warm sunny day and I've played golf in worse conditions with the rain and mud, but this type of mud is the worst - gummy, cakes on. We took 30 minutes after attempting to take off. The staff only offered a muddy broomstick, which wasn't much help. We couldn't use their power wash. During Twilight time, prepare to play with greens with Autumn leaves all over (see pic as reference). There aren't many hazards/bodies of water, so chances of losing balls are minimal. We started at 3:15 pm on Sunday as a group of 4, all walking. We are primarily beginners and played slow, 13 holes by 6 pm. I have to admit I was terrible today, I was Duffy the Bogey Slayer. There's still enough light, so it's possible to finish as single or pair if there's no one in front. Weekend Twilight rate is $38.54/per person +tax.

I've been playing golf at Bond Head for years, ever since they first opened and had only one golf…read morecourse. How come nobody, including me, ever wrote a review before now. In that opening year, service was definitely at the forefront. They offered valet parking and even the bag drop staff wore long sleeved white dress shirts and ties. It may not have been practical but it set Bond Head apart at the time. The washrooms had cloth hand towels, no paper ones in sight. A lot has changed since then and even in recent years. ClubLink took over and Bond Head went private. They're now public again, with two 18-hole courses and prices seem to have dropped slightly. There is always some kind of coupon deal. Staff are dressed more casual (practical) and the valet service didn't last long but service has always been good. Although it's a long way from home, I still manage to play here a couple of times a year. I much prefer the newer North course, with its drastic changes in elevation and scenic views, especially in the fall. This course would be an extremely tough walk! The South course, by comparison, has gentler elevations, and smaller, firmer greens that don't hold as well. Yesterday's round, on the North Course, was only my second of the year, a day after my first, so I was a bit sore. Two of my playing partners have never played here before and wanted to play from the Gold Tees since it read "only" 6,547 yards. I convinced them to play from the Blues (6,218), even though my sore shoulder was screaming Whites (5,442)! Standing on the second tee box, looking at a 200 yard carry over fescue, they understood why. There are several, very scenic, holes that are more suited for long hitters who can carry their tee shots a long way. Not me. At least not today. The course was in decent shape, mostly well groomed, but the greens were slow and bumpy, not typical of Bond Head. Most of the sand traps were lacking sand and looked like they may have been damaged by heavy rain. Quite possible. The two new guys played well. I did not. Neither did my cart partner. We did, however, enjoy the day and each other's company. I like this course enough to drive over an hour to get here. The other guys, based on today's course conditions (slow greens), maybe not. Unless there's a coupon deal involved. I've seen this course in much better shape so I know that I'll be back. Rewinding a bit, I came up early enough to have lunch before our 1:48pm tee time. The restaurant is quite spacious, with lots of seating, and comfortable leather chairs. There is also a large patio overlooking the driving range and parts of the South Course. Hmmm, I remember the patio being covered. I ordered the Deluxe Burger with fries on the side. This monstrous burger has two patties, bacon, cheese, onion rings, lettuce, tomato, and onions. I had to squash it to fit in my mouth! It was a good burger! One of my playing partners joined me as I was about to head to the driving range to practice. He ordered a Reuben sandwich and it looked good. By the time he finished eating and we paid the bill, there was no time to practice. Darn! I'm blaming him for my poor score!

The driving range is a bit of a walk from the office where you need to purchase your balls, but the views are great! It'll remind you of the Microsoft desktop picture. There's plenty of bays to use with built in tees. Price is cost friendly compared to others as its city operated.

I first played at Braeben when it was still called Britannia Hills. Back then, you could still…read moresmell the garbage and the adjacent land was still a landfill. There were not very many houses around the course either. Since that time I played the Academy 9-hole course a number of times. I liked the Academy because it was very challenging for a short course. If you miss the fairway, there was a very high chance that you would lose your ball in the rough and/or fescue. The fescue is baaaaad. Don't even bother trying to hit out of it. I finally decided to try out the 18-hole course after years of procrastinating. I played on a Sunday afternoon at 3:01 pm (twilight starts at 3 pm, and super twilight at 5:30 pm). For $65 you get a cart for your 18 holes. I highly recommend getting a cart. There are a lot of hills and you won't enjoy your round if you had to carry your bag. Both the 9- and 18-hole courses are very well maintained. There are some tough spots (we played after it rained) and the bunkers can be brutal. We took free drops instead of playing out of the bunkers, especially after rain. Also a couple of the holes had very strange layouts. There were two greens that were absolutely hidden and nearly impossible to aim for unless you had played it before. Thankfully all the carts are fitted with GPS devices so you know how far you are from the green. The staff and marshalls were all very polite and kind. We had a slow group but the marshall tried her best to keep everyone moving. Their service really stood out to me. I would definitely play Braeben again. For $65 and the convenience of the course's location, I think it's a great value. You might have a tough time if you're a beginner because of the fescue and tight fairways, but there are some easy par 3s and straight 4s to keep you going.
