This review is for Bartizan Arch Trail which was a ~5 miles round trip that took ~3 hours to…read morecomplete. This was a surprisingly unique and stunning hike near Cedar City, Utah. While most of southern Utah was over 90°F; the temperature in this area was easily ~30° lower! Within the first ~1 mile to Spectra Point were amazing views of the canyon. This reminds me of Bryce Canyon National Park except you can't walk into the canyon. For the most part, the declines start after Spectra Point towards Bartizan Arch. As a result, the inclines back out can feel a bit strenuous. The trail was on the exposed rims of the canyon as well as parts of the nearby forest. Furthermore, the trail was slightly rocky and becomes narrower near the arch. Watch your steps! For those looking for a shorter hike; I would recommend going up to Spectra Point which would be a ~1.9 mile roundtrip. In my opinion, the view at Ramparts Viewpoint wasn't too much of a difference compared to the view at Spectra Point Viewpoint. Our cabin was like 10 minutes away from one of the ponds which was semi-frozen. The duck Creek Village had a few good size Ace Hardware that's sold groceries, there was also a gas station, coffee shop, and I did see a pizza place all within walking distance. I most definitely will be back during one of the other season.

You turn off at Cedar City and then have about a 50 minute drive up a mountain that is very steep and scary. I hate driving so close to the edge, I white knuckled it all the way up! I definitely would not want to drive this at night! Duck Creek Village is near Cedar Breaks National Monument and Brian Head. It is in the Dixie National Forest. The temperature the third week of June was roughly around 68-70 during the day, but at night it drops to 40 degrees! You need pants and long sleeve shirts! It is near Lake Navajo and it is so beautiful and peaceful up here! You will see deer, chipmunks, and lots of birds! I noticed there were places where you could rent ATVs. There was also a place to go horseback riding. You have to get your food in Cedar City and there is a Walmart you should stop at BEFORE going up the mountain. Try to get everything that you need before you go up, because once you are at the cabin, you won't really want to leave! FYI there is very little reception on the mountain, so unless your cabin has Wi-fi, you will be out of touch with everyone!

It's paint is fading and the exterior looks like it's seen many years (about 23 now, actually), and could use a little TLC. But as far as lighthouses go, it's the only full-size one you'll find around here. And if California does get swallowed up by the ocean, it will be ready to step in and do it's job. Until then, it's a strange beacon to the southern Utah area and stands ready to be called to duty. I hope I don't see the day that it's function is needed.

If you have TSA precheck they don't really have the scanners anyway so it just gets you out of taking off your shoes. The airport is so small you can get there about 45 minutes before your flight and have plenty of time. SkyWest flies two flights per day during the week and once during the weekend.

The Parowan Gap is a National Register of Historic Places. There you will find a variety of petroglyphs created by the native people of their era, marks left by Spanish explorers, and carvings left by pioneers and settlers of the 19th century. The rock formation is quite impressive. The historical gap offers a nice parking lot, a walking area, benches, information exhibits, and very nice scenery. I would imagine it gets pretty warm during the summer. We stopped by during the Spring and other than being a little windy, it was very pleasant. There are restrooms available.

It all speaks to you if you can be still. The Hopi believe their divine mission to care for the land. One of most impressive petroglyph sites in Utah. There are petroglyphs all over the canyon walls detailing the people who came before us. An ancient river carved out the gap. Many of the petroglyphs depict that river, animals, and the importance of a leadership aligned with nature.
