The headliner was The Pat Travers Band and they rocked some great blues. The Ori Naftaly Band from Israel and the Skyla Burrell Blues Band were my favorites. This was the 14th year and the weather could not have been any better. There was a nice cloud cover but the rain held off and the temps stayed around the mid-80's. Lot's of food vendors as well as other corporate sponsors/vendors marketing their products. They could have done better by having the beverage tents scattered around the area rather than in just one spot. It would have also been nice to have a choice other than just two lite beers. There were only five Port O Johns which made the lines long and the waits even longer. At $10 bucks for an advance ticket though, it's a good value for a good cause and some great Blues.

Always a few tip jars to play. For 30 or $35 a year for dues, You can't beat it for the price. I go in for lunch 2 or 3 days a week. It's nice to get a sit down meal and drink for under $10.

The places to tie off your boat are gone with nails sticking out everywhere and after water levels rise there's always thick mud on the concrete pad. If you have a good size boat the water around the ramp can get pretty shallow. Also, there's a lot of people who come there that can't read the rules and trash the place. When the upkeep is good and not muddy it's a good ramp.

This original site is now a convenience store and gas station The marker reads, "The Confederate hospital was built here under the direction of Dr. Andrew Russell Meem, by order of the Confederate Medical Department in Sept. 1861. The hospital consisted of three two-story buildings, each 150 feet long, accommodating 500 patients. At the end of the war, the 192nd Ohio Volunteer Militia tore down the hospital and used the lumber to construct a large military installation that included a courthouse, guardhouse, gallows, and ballroom on Rude's Hill, three miles south of Mount Jackson. Federal occupation forces used these structures throughout the Reconstruction period. The cemetery, which was established directly across the Valley Pike in 1861, was dedicated in 1866." The theatre is downtown in the Old Town Hall building. There is ample parking in the rear. The building was older and seats are foldable chairs, some regulars brought their own personal cushions, but I found our seats to be just fine. They have a small snack bar with sodas , wine and snack items like chips and candy. Ticket prices are very reasonable and a great value. Besides plays they also have live music performances and a really fun Mystery Dinner show on their schedule. Definitely worth checking out if you are near or in the area. Great time had by all. Performances were magnificent as were the costumes. Casting was spot on. Rutledge and Dickinson were great counterpoints to Adams and Franklin. A very young Jefferson lived up to the role. Our 8 year old granddaughter absolutely loved it and stayed engaged for the entire 3 hour performance. Highly recommend without reservation. (Our granddaughter strongly voted for 5 stars.). Can't wait for the next performance!

It reads, "McNeill's Last Charge. In the predawn darkness of 3 Oct. 1864, Capt. John Hanson McNeill led thirty of his Partisan Rangers, including local resident Joseph I. Triplett, against a hundred-man detachment of the 8th Ohio Cavalry Regiment that was guarding the Meems Bottom bridge on the Valley Turnpike. The attack ended in fifteen minutes with most of the guard captured and McNeill, among the best-known Confederate partisan commanders, mortally wounded. Taken first to the Rev. Anders R. Rude's house a mile south, McNeill was moved on 20 Oct. to Hill's Hotel (Stoneleigh) in Harrisonburg, where he died on 10 Nov. His body was later reinterred in Moorefield, W.Va., his home." Online, there is more information. McNeill was born near Moorefield, Virginia (which is now West Virginia. In 1861, he formed and was named commander of a company in the Missouri State Guard, seeing action in Boonville, Carthage, Wilson's Creek, and Lexington. Although captured and imprisoned in St. Louis, he escaped on June 15, 1862, and made his way back to Virginia. In Richmond, he obtained permission to form an independent unit in the western counties of West Virginia and Virginia in order to disrupt Union activities in the area. This was granted, and on September 5, 1862, McNeill became captain of Company E of the 18th Virginia Cavalry, more commonly known as McNeill's Rangers. Along with raids on railroads and wagon trains, he first proposed the operation that became the Jones-Imboden Raid. Opponents called him a Bushwhacker. Initially buried in Harrisonburg with full Military and Masonic honors, his Rangers returned his body to Hardy County, West Virginia, for reinterment. He is buried in Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, West Virginia, next to the Monument to Confederate Dead, surrounded by the graves of other Confederate soldiers. This post office was recently renamed in honor of Winchester native & country legend, Patsy Cline by Pres. Biden which is "Crazy". "I Fall to Pieces" when I think about how fascinating that is. There's a framed article on the wall dated June 29, 2022 describing the story. It was busy but efficient, and clean as a whistle! Cute little post office on the pedestrian mall in downtown Winchester that's open limited hours…read more(12-4pm) if you're not wanted to go to the full branch over on Pleasant Valley Road. They have the same stamps here as anywhere else and even post offices if that's something that you're looking for. My clerk was helpful and efficient. My post card stamps went onto the post cards and then they went into the mail. Easy!
