Since it is a large deck on a on a slope, we knew it was not something we could do ourselves. After listening to our hopes and ideas, they developed a couple concepts for us to consider before we settled on a plan. After we agreed on the concept Victor and John came and gave us their appraisal and bid in a very timely manner. Although they had other projects before us, they began gathering materials and doing the new foundations for the new deck in early November. Although cost does enter the picture, they were fair in their understanding of our goals and needs and stayed on our agreed upon budget. Their requests for a deposit and funds along the way were reasonable. When we needed an additional week for the funds to come into our accounts as additional materials were ordered and delivered, they understood and continued the work. It was easy to communicate with them through person to person, phone calls, e-mails and/or texts. We decided to go with the Rocky Harbor Trex design and watched each day as the project progressed until it was done. Even with the November winds and rain, they showed up and worked throughout each day. Their work ethic and skills are second to none! When it was done, the new deck exceeded our expectations not only for the design, but also the stability, their professionalism, keeping us informed throughout the process, and their understanding of the many questions we had along the way. We had supplied the measurement for this cabinet and talked about the project when we met the first time but he said he never uses measurements from clients and didn't recall the conversation despite having an email with the specifics. Instead he used his own (wrong) measurements. When we asked to talk about the issue in order to come up with a solution that we all could live with the situation went downhill. He tried to talk us into "living with" the cabinet and pointed out other "mistakes" in our kitchen. We asked for it to be rebuilt to the size we originally requested. When we held off on paying for the rest of the bill until the cabinet was rebuilt as we originally had requested he became very difficult to work with. He is emotional and unable to remain professional with feedback that was less than positive. While other items he built (bookcases, cabinets) were done well the behavior we had to endure due to his mistakes and inability to take feedback and just make it right was awful. We would not recommend him and won't use him in the future for additional work.

Short Review: I would NEVER recommend this company ever again due to their lack of commitment to stand behind the quality of their company name, as guaranteed on their website. This company is NOTHING like what the previous owner, Brent, built and stood behind. Long Review: I have to agree with Brian F. in regards to the new owner Damon. He is extremely non-responsive. My husband and I worked with Brent, the previous owner, and he was EXCEPTIONAL! Truly! But, we had to reach out this year, 3 yrs after our three level $115k project was completed regarding some settling of some of the posts that needed to be shored up and hoped to get it done quickly. We reached out to Damon in early May 2025 to see about having it looked at. On May 19, 2025, Damon came out to take a look at the decks and said he'd reach out to someone who would be the expert in what would need to be done. After several attempts to receive an update from Damon with no reply, we reached out to the previous owner, Brent, to ask if he could assist in us getting a response from Damon. Finally, on August 5, my husband was able to connect with Grant and shared his frustrations of not receiving any update from Damon. Grant stated he'd talk with Damon and someone would get back to us. Damon called back and stated that the fix for the problem was 'tricky' and he'd be working with another vendor to come and jack up the deck, pour some concrete and get it cared for. That vendor reached out to us on August 26, and came by to assess the decks a few days later. This individual provided what he felt needed to be done and stated that he would let Damon know the solution. It took another 6 weeks of my husband trying to get a response from Damon as to where we were in getting this resolved and at least what it was going to take. We didn't know if Lifestyles would pay for the fix or split it with us or if we would be expected to pay for it ourselves, but we just wanted to have a reply so we could move forward. Today, my husband left another message, stating how we just needed to have a response and that we were concerned about the deck continuing to worsen due to coming into the rainy season. FINALLY, Damon called us back today only to tell us that he was not going to do anything in regards to caring for the repair and that he was 'sorry' that he had not communicated that to us when we initally reached out 5 months prior. He stated that the guarantee of the workmanship was not his problem as the work was done prior to him owning the business. He did not seem to care that the name or the reputation of the company could suffer due to his lack of 'good faith' customer care. I did share that if we would have known that, we could have gotten quotes and had it repaired during the summer months. Now that is the rainy season, will anyone want to take that on? Damon did not seem to care that we were extremely frustrated with the lack of communication and the lack of telling us up front that the responsibility of the repair would be on us. This company is no longer one that I would EVER recommend. You can see by my glowing review in May 2022 when our project was completed and the care that the previous owner, Brent, provided is CLEARLY not the same with the new owner, Damon. Short Review: Damon, the new owner made this project take 7 months to do 3 gates and about 80 feet of fencing in total, which was never completed. He requested that we pay an extra 50% for the project AFTER we signed a contract. What work they did do was not made to spec, making a 4 foot wide swing gate to fit into a 3 foot wide opening. We had to fire them, horrible experience. Long Review: We heard glowing reviews from Life Styles Deck and Fence from several people, my parents included. All of the good word of mouth was from when the previous owner Brent was there. Towards the 4th quarter of 2024, Damon took over. When we were getting quoted they came by and drafted a contract for 2 double swing gates, 1 single swing gate, 1 stretch of fence that was 72 feet, and 1 stretch of fence which was 9 feet. We agreed and signed the contract in September of 2024. At the end of October they came out and did most of the 72 foot stretch of fence and demolished the old fencing we were looking to get replaced. After that we had silence. No work was done for several months. Every time I tried to reach out to Damon via email, phone call, or text, it was a coin toss on if I would get a response or not. When I did get a response it was some excuse pushing back the timelines. In January Damon did reach out to me. Not with a schedule, but with a plea that we pay him an extra 50% than what was agreed upon from our contract. 50% extra to get less work done. The contract signed said we were going to get steel frames for all of the gates, welded and powder coated. He asked me to pay 50% more and that would not include powder coating. It wasn't until March (6 months after signing the contract) when we started to get any sort of confirmation that something was getting done. Damon submitted a schedule of when work was to be done and completed. Of course this got pushed back several more weeks until when they finally arrived on site in the middle of April. The workers came by and installed the 4 posts required for the gates. After they left I went and checked on the posts and they were positioned incorrectly. The spacing for the single swing gate was a 3 foot opening. On the contract that we signed it specified a 4 foot gate. The posts are steel posts sunken into concrete, so this isn't exactly an easy fix. I sent an email, called, and texted Damon to confirm the gate sizes as this was now concerning. Radio Silence, again. I then got a call from one of his workers that has been there since Brent was in charge. They told me that Damon instead of having them coming to work on our property as intended by the schedule, had his workers send to a different project entirely. I was also told that the gate sizes made where not the sizes specified on the contract. So now I am stuck with gate posts in the wrong position, only a portion of the fence done, and an open driveway with no barrier to my backyard. Working with Damon has been a nightmare, by far the absolute worst contracting experience in my life. If you are looking for work to be done on your property, look else where.

We hired Dan for a complete remodel of an old farmhouse. The house only had a few walls and a lot…read moreof problems - it was a big project. We found Dan through word of mouth within Portland's old home community (my husband managed the antiques and vintage department at Rejuvenation). He was easy going and likable during the bidding process. We were quickly disappointed with his performance as a general contractor, a carpenter, his subcontractors and his communication. Of note, this is our third complete home remodel but our first time using a general contractor. We are very aware of the challenges of old home remodels. We used a bank construction loan, which requires a little bit of computer savvy. Dan definitely struggled with the process at each step. Dan gave a completion date of three months. We fired him at the seven months with many large projects not even scheduled. We repeatedly expressed our frustration but he acted surprised with each conversation. Ron, the main person working at our house, rarely came to work before 10am and was always gone before 5pm. There were many days no one was working. Dan and Ron took multiple days off to go skiing, even after the completion date. Dan took 3 extended vacations during our time together with little or no notice to us. Dan and Ron's carpentry skills look good from a distance, but... Most of the trim work dose not sit flush to the drywall. There are visible gaps between most of the spindles and railing. They used a grey filler for the nail holes so now it looks like nail heads. We used the original doors, but a couple don't close after install - to which Dan says is our fault for using the old doors. This is the opposite of his slogan "in with the old, out with the new". He did not communicate a problem with the doors until we asked why the doors were not functional. Dan and Ron installed the finish trim before it was stained, which the painter was very frustrated about. This resulted in horrible overspray and repainting of all the rooms. The painter later told us that it was the third time he'd seen Dan fired. The drywall did not get close enough to the lighting fixtures. There are still holes around the ceiling fixtures. Again, he said it was the antique lighting even though we were clear that the old lights needed smaller openings. There were four new windows included in our contract that was signed in October. Dan did not order the windows until January and wanted to charge us the new years pricing even though it was his delay. The window he personally installed does not operate correctly and he cut through and damaged the exterior trim. He removed the downspout for install and would not reassemble it. The bedroom window was ordered to match the existing old windows - it's the wrong size and he doesn't understand the problem and refused to reorder the correct size. His siding subcontractor installed the other two windows. When I expressed surprise that they were done in a single day, they joked that it would have taken Dan and Ron a month to do it. His plumber didn't cap the sewer line so we ended up with raw sewage in our basement. He said this was not his doing but was unable to provide proof that a test had ever been completed. During CCB mediation he finally agreed to pay for the hazardous clean up. Construction debris/trash rarely made it into the dumpster. Dan was rarely on site to check the work of his subs. He never did walk throughs with us as projects were completed. We even asked for this at the end, but he still was unable to identify any problems with the work. We had a contentious parting and even though we've asked to never speak again after we initiated a formal complaint, Dan continues to communicate with us. He refuses to take ownership for any of these errors - either for his own work/communication or that of his subs. Obviously, we can not recommend Dan for any project, small or large.

Ours hasnt even lasted a year! We had our Matthew table delivered in late December and by May the quality of the table was showing badly. We had another wood worker look at our table and he instantly stated that they hadn't let the wood dry properly before constructing with it. Several knots have cracked open on the side of the table leaving sharp edges that rip clothing of anyone who sits there, the whole table top has warped and is not straight and there are 2 large cracks running up and across the table over a foot long. I decided to contact the builder Matthew and had to reach out several times before finally recieveing a message back from his wife Megan. She stated that they can't control what the wood does and that the most they would do to rectify the situation would be to make us a new top if WE purchased all the materials again. This is ridiculous. I spent $1700 trusting that I was working with a quality wood worker. I shouldn't have to spend any other money to fix the table if you stand behind your product.
